I mainly bought this phone because it has a removable battery. My previous phone, the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, got its charging port damaged because I was using it while charging and my hands would get in the way of the charging cable. Over time, the USB-C port eroded and the phone stopped charging.

Nothing is more frustrating than coming back home from work, resting on the couch and waiting for your favorite game/app to load, only to find out you have 10% charging left. Waiting 30 minutes for a full charge is too long and it's annoying to game while your phone is connected to the charger. Now, my phone reaches above 95% charge in less than a minute and I only use its USB-C port for data transfer with my computer.

I customized the upper button to use flashlight. It was really hard to find a spare battery online. I don't use the giant red button because its size could cause accidental clicks and I don't know what to program it for. You can't directly record videos with just a click of a button, because the button only opens an app. I had to research on Google and look at multiple sites. I still didn't find a battery charger, but a third-party multi purpose battery charger should do if you what you're doing. I wish I could root the phone, but that'll prevent some app from working. In the end, I uninstalled and I disabled bloatwares with ADB commands.

Although, one thing to note is that the motherboard is sealed up and you would need to heat up the phone to replace the screen or the motherboard. Also, it doesn't come with a factory screen protector, like the A71 does, but at least it comes with earphones that fully works for a month. After that, your right ear will feel lonely. In general, I wish phones were as standardized as desktops with the ability to dual boot like desktops.

Very slow, non efficient. Rotating alone takes ages. Turning on the camera takes ages. Switching between camera modes also. Leaving a mediocre game on before locking means that unlocking will take - ages. Very bad fingerprint sensor, but to be fair face recognition works pretty well. Selfie camera is embarrassing, photos are like on early phones. Big mistake to buy it for an expensive price 400e. Samsung has become very expensive apparently, for this price range they sell crappy phones

Mike, 22 Sep 2021That's what happens when you hire a teenager product m... moreThe XCover 3 from 2015 already got rid of port covers, screw, and dedicated camera button. Since then the XCover-series (3, 4, 4S, Pro, 5) has not featured these, with the exception of the FieldPro having covers and screw.

The ports themselves are water resistant instead. A cover would be nice sometimes (if the port gets wet, you get a warning to dry it before plugging anything in), but on the other hand it is one more thing to wear out and break. Not sure if the screw is actually useful or a gimmick - an impact sufficiently strong to dislodge the back cover of the Pro would probably destroy the phone. The dedicated camera button has long since been replaced by the programmable side button - you can still use it as a camera button, or for other things. Not a shortcoming, rather an improvement.

So in most respects the XCover Pro is a typical XCover-series phone. The omission of the physical front buttons is the only diversion. Frankly, I think it is an improvement. Android is a touch-based OS. Those three physical buttons alone will not do much good. Buttons or not, you will get little use out of the phone if you cannot use the touch screen. So instead of the buttons we get more screen. I have both the Pro and the FieldPro, they are roughly the same size, but the Pro has screen where the FieldPro has buttons and bezels. This extra space is genuinely useful: more screen content, or larger text - good legibility can be important in rough situations. The screen of the FieldPro in comparison is sharp, but small, and it can be straining to read. Its physical buttons are always taking up space, even when I have no need for them. I think the Pro is on the right track for the XCover-series.

That's what happens when you hire a teenager product manager. Soon you they will sell you a cover for the a52 and call it Xcover, you know.. to cut costs and a modern look and make a profit.
What is the point of a "xCover" series if you remove all the characteristics that made the xCover be an xCover?
Why would you remove the back screw for the battery cover?
Why would you remove the dedicated camera button?
Why would you remove the physical nav buttons???
Why would you remove the ports covers???
How is this an outdoor phone again?

At first, I was tempted with the latest Galaxy A72 smartphone. Not only it has AMOLED 90hz screen and IP67 dust/water protection, it also has a potent Snapdragon 720G chipset, a 3x zoom telephoto camera, 6GB/8GB RAM, and 5,000mAh battery. More than that, it shipped with Android 11 and OneUI 3.1 out of the box. So by right, that should be my favoured choice. But then I found out that the A72 doesn't have Samsung DeX capability, so I ended up choosing this XCover Pro instead. It may have a less powerful chipset and smaller battery than the A72, but it has MIL-STD-810G shockproofing and removable battery.

It's not about a hazardous environment survivability.
It's about longevity in a broader sense.

You forgot to mention that besides a decent cpu, this mobile has an easy user replaceable battery. A headphone jack and a sd card slot plus a dual sim.
Which all in all will have the phone be working for a long time with a security update and software that will last years.
Simply not found in other phones presently.

I got this phone from a Company. I used MI8, Galaxy S8 and S5 previously. To be honest, Xcover cant be compared with Galaxy S. It is slower, the screen is worse, the camera is mediocre at best. Battery is OK, nothing more.
But Xcover is still a decent phone. It will do most of the things quickly and you do not need to worry about splashes, falling down etc. It is really robust, but in size that fits the pocket.
The Shortcut keys are very useful and easy to customize.

So, all in all, if you need a though phone that is a bit slow-go with it. Otherwise, buy a Galaxy or Xioami in this price range.

In my place the original Samsung battery is readily available for less than €25. I could easily find it available in some other EU-countries, too, but sometimes costing more (€40 was the highest I found).

The screen is IPS. There was some early Samsung promo material that mistakenly had it as AMOLED, but the official Samsung specs and reviews have it as TFT/IPS, and that is quite obviously the truth if you hold one in person.

Speaking of which, have you actually used one? The phone is smooth and responsive, fear of bloatware is misplaced. While not a high-end phone regarding benchmarks, its performance is more than adequate, and it offers a number of features that are almost unique nowadays. Depending on the user priorities it is a bargain, or even almost the only phone worthy of serious consideration.

In my country this phone is overpriced, 450 euro.
The battery for it is 50 euro, except that there is a shortage and you cant buy it anywhere, you need to order from abroad using various services.
Also the screen isnt IPS but Amoled.
Anyway the removable battery doesnt mean much if you cant even buy it, all sellers asked and they are out of stock cant even order it.
Maybe you can get one from ebay, but please understand that 450 euro phone is just too expensive for removable battery to worth it, with this specifications, also samsung very resource intensive, and this hardware will feel even less with samsung bloatware
