This phone is very affordable, so don't expect too much. It's basically a very cute android phone; perfect for teenagers (Galaxy YOUNG, duh).
It's not a waste of money, really. If you are just looking for a nice phone with basic features and cool apps (but on a tight budget), this would be best for you.
The battery life is a killer, though. Lasts only a day with normal usage.
Overall, I give it 8/10.

frns i hv purchased recently galaxy y ..... im unable to download any video plz help me..... i hv apps real playr,mx video playr...... wen i put any video for dwnload its gvng options real playr, mx video playr, internet
if i hv selectd mx r real it is play backing video if internet dwnload unsuccesful wt shud i do

big ste, 05 Jan 2012the phone seems good~but battery life is poor ste At the very first week every phone looks the same with battery, just take few measures how to charge , see the results after a week in the battery improvement.

mansoor, 05 Jan 2012can any one tell me about its bettery time? and aslo told ... morebattery lasts a day with average use 20 minute call, 50 text, some wifi and some 3g.

why do i only get ~20 hours standby time? do you mean standby time in flight mode with screen off? android sucks in the battery department.
they should have provided a 4000mAh battery

Agreed that the resolution & camera quality is a bit low but with less then half the price of smart phones you got to compromise on couple of things,

a good affordable phone for those who want to experience android.as far as it can be upgraded and touch is also good as it has capacitive touch

hi every bdy im using this frm -4 to 5 days im suffering frm a prb. whenever i start downloading i hide it and for other apps. like games. after some time when i return back in browser the downlodig is itself stopped... help me any 1???
