Anonymous, 15 Sep 2010 Hello People, i have just bought my new samsung gala... moreeven i faced the same prob for first two days but person called satyam helped me out to solve this issue i mean the battery backup prob.... pls do the following:
1. Settings den wireless and network den mobile networks den network mode and den select gsm and cdma.
2. Settings den Accounts and sync den disable background data.
Pls do the above mentioned and am sure battery performance will improve....

Also its my personal opinion... pls dont install task killer or task manager... it slows down the mob.... when you open the gallery after installing the above two thats it the mobile freezes... its jus my personal experience....

Also how much time does your battery last after taking care of these things. And have you experienced any other kinda of problem , which may or may not be set specific.?

I think we cannot assign ringtones to different groups or set MP3 ringtones of downloaded songs.

I installed Fring app but the problem with this phone is You can only chat and not do voice calls either from google talk, skype or any other messenger. Biggest dissapointment for me as my freind who has nokia N70 can do voice calls from fring. Letc c as and when I get to know more things i will keep on posting updates

Does any one know about pre-installed maps to be used for GPS in I5800 ?

or a software like garmin ? can it be installed on this phone ?

Want to buy this phone today would appreciate a quick response.

hello,

one thing i want want to say ,android dont have any problem and bugs but the apps on market are buggy and those are decreasing the performance of android devices.so be carefull installing untrusted apps.use oly stable apps.

most of the problem posted here are regarding GPS and battery backup.
so here are some solutions:-
GPS:-
GPS provided in this phone is good but most people dont know how to use.this weekend we had a trip to kerala and beleive me this phone really helped us in navigation.for using gps the things u need are:-
1. u should have internet connection for downloading the maps.
2. u should be in open space.
3. if u want fast sattelite locking use agps feature.just enable it.in my phone with agps it takes only 10 second to lock and that is when i was travelling with 80kmph speed.

while travelling in car i was getting location accuracy with in 100metre and at standing position it was as good as 3m. that figures are decent not excellent for a mobile phone because this is not a dedicated navigation console.

Battery problem:-
1. keep ur gps,wifi,bluetooth off when there is no need.many times i dont know they are on or off,because so many apps in android use these services like layar,navigation,maps etc.

2. in india 3g is not there so put your mobile on gsm mode.
go to settings->wireless and network->mobile networks->network mode.

3. if u dont want real-time connection with google account then keep auto sync off.Doing that will improve battery backup significantly. so go to setting->account and sync and uncheck background data.

4. use task killer application etc or there is a option running services in settings->applications.make a shortcut of that on desktop.that will be very helpfull in exiting processes.

last use your smart phone smartly.we need to learn multitasking android.

this is true when u have power ,u must learn how to control that.same thing is with galaxy3 and android.it is a powerfull gadget with beautiful and featured android.But everyone is facing battery problem because only of the one good feature of android and i.e excellent multitasking in android.
we are not in the habit of this kind of multitasking in phones,so we forget to exit applications those who keep running in background and consume power.and creates battery problems.try to control your applications. you will definatily enjoy.use it like a smart phone or your handheld laptop.

After going through the review of this phone on gsmarena i had decided upon it until i read this forum.
The problems the users here suggest are making me rethink on my decision. Issues with battery charge , battery level indicator and call drop really confuse me.
After all how usefell is a mobile when its basics arent right. It maybe be set specific issue but then while buying even i may end up with one.Kindly please tell me if i am wrong , i would be happy. Users..Bloggers ...help...also do highlight any other problem that bothers.

the basic android doesn't need high hardware features but as is has got so many application people go on for higher level multitasking(hope you got me) at that time as this phone which has higher feature won't at all lag just runs smoothly.

1.yes the task killer is must and it doesn't slows your mobile and it is not must to keep task killer always on just use it when ever you have to close any application.
2.the two mobiles in this range are Nokia 5800 and LG optimus which is also android

I'm planning to buy a new phone. I'm really confused between Nokia X6 and Samsung Galaxy3 (i5800). After reading the reviews, I guess with X6, I get better camera, better resolution, secondary camera and Nokia's durability. And with Galaxy3, I get better processor speed and more RAM and lower cost.

So, the confusion ultimately comes in choosing the OS. Is the Android UI so much better than Symbian as I have read in reviews.

Also, does Android require more hardware (processor freq. and RAM) for its functioning, so that the higher specs of Galaxy3 are canceled by the presence of Android?

Thanks in advance for any help.
