I thought as much although now I have a question about unlocking the phone to other sims: Would hacking unlock the sim or is that something totally different? If i am not mistaken debranding, which really is flashing, will unlock the sim?

Hack will be deleted after update so u will have to hack again!...the hack is what allows u too add any apps...the flash would just change ur firmware and add features of that firmware but nun special...hack is what allows modifying and patching

Wole, 09 Jan 2010I too just got mine and though I am no expert I advise you ... moreI found the answer to the my question in a prev post, which was about being able to install any application on the phone after hacking. I still want everyones' opinion about which should be done first: hacking or update? I am thinking especially since updates in designated regions will be tailored to maintain branded limitations so doing the update after hacking might cause problems. Please everyone weigh in on my speculation. Thanks.

In addition to that you might want to hack the phone as well so you have all the extra folders and hidden factory options branded phones deny you. The only question I have is will I have the liberty to install any application on the hacked phone with the update like a different browser, or will I only be able to do this with flashing. All my knowledge so far is thanks posts from others more knowledgable like XXX, Symbios...so if i've missed something someone will say so

updating removes all saved data from ur phone including hacks...so dont hack before updating, hack after updating....flashing is unnecessary since firmware is said to be worldwide so just be patient....hamid has been waiting from day one...so look to him for inspiration....he should be the most anxious person in this forum...but he's being patient so just wait a while and samsung will release the new firmware...if they dont then it may be because they are trying to fix the frame rate issue and camera issues as well!

updating formats the phone so any hacks u perform before u update will be lost...flashing is unnecessary since the announced firmware is supposed to be worldwide....so just keep trying with the software updater and as soon as it is available in ur region u'll be able to update!!

Does anyone know if I will be able to install any web browser i want with the update and hack (please someone let me know if it's adviceable to hack first or update first) or do i need to flash to install anything i want? sorry if it's a dumb question but just want to be sure. the only possible benefit at this point of flashing to an italian firmware is that u'll receive the update for the new worldwide firmware first...under than that right now u really dont need to flash...just wait till its released...

when i first got this phone my original firmw... moresoulchild,
know i promised these links since yesterday but I only got the chance now!
the first link takes you to the file which has a tutorial video,
symbian flashing tools and all the drivers you will need and the second link has some additional firmwares.
important - this can only be done using windows xp

after both files are downloaded install all the drivers in the first download, the i8910 drivers must be installed as well!
after all the drivers are installed just follow the video step by step! now put your phone in bootloader mode as demonstrated
and u'll notice some more drivers automatically install! now the download button should be highlighted!
too those of you who plan to use the i8910xxii1 firmware like me!
the following must be done in the pda_code_i8910xxii1 folder:-
now this may become a little confusing or complicated or both ;)
1. in the pda_code_i8910xxii1 folder create a subfolder called "uboot"
2. copy the "nb1" and "nb2" subfolders to "uboot"(do not "move" the folders, be sure to only "copy")
3. go to the "core" subfolder and copy the "i8910xxii1_xxx.rom.img" to "uboot" folder and rename to "i8910xxii1_xxx.ubootldr.img"
4. in the "uboot" folder create another "uboot" subfolder(yes another one)
5. now simply copy the renamed "i8910xxii1_xxx.ubootldr.img" file to the second "uboot" folder
6. now in the rom flasher, untick the "boot" option next to "format"
7. finally click the "download" button on the rom flasher
the flashing process takes about 2-3 minutes
make sure your phone is fully charged and ensure that you make a back up of all your data!

when i first got this phone my original firmware was I8910XXIF9...i flashed my phone to the italian I8910XXII1 using something called Symbian ROM Flashing TOols+the firmware files i downloaded(i'll post the link later).....after that i was able to use PC Studio to update too the now latest italian firmware I8910XXII2....the only difference between the XXII1 and the XXII2 is that speed and the 5.1 surround with built in speakers...other than that they are the same....
