A good firmware will be brought out soon by some kid in Russia or Germany.

My i8510 innov8 has a Nigerian firmware which is flawless and sped my my phone tremendously in addition to giving me 7 days standby time.

I intend to buy the i8910 next month (about 500 euros here)

This phone could be the best phone out there, but the limited apps make the value lower!!!

vbhv007, 13 Oct 2009To All Dear Omnia HD Fans, I have been following this foru... more1. Mo has answered your first question. I'd like to add that capacitive and resistive touchscreens are liked by different set of users - ones who like to use their fingers and ones who like to use a stylus. they are equally good in their own right. it all depends on what you think you'd be comfortable with.

                2. wo-o-ow! now i'd not even like to think of that one! :) trust me, once you get this phone (or any of the others) you will stick your life on it and no matter what happens, you'd not drop it. and as of now, i dont believe anyone would have got their screen replaced, so only the company can assist you on that one.

3.well, i dont exactly know what makes the screen scratch proof. the thing is that once u accustom yourself to the capacitive touchscreen (where u'd use your face of your finger rather than ur nail/stylus) u'd never make scratches on it. plus, always keep it in its pouch when not in use to avoid other scratches.

                4. yes, a xenon flash would have been outright amazing, but they have to leave some scope for improvement (to launch a newer model ;) ) and about a comparison against the other phones, pixon12 and satio are not yet available in india, so cant help u on that. you could look at the sample pics on their respective pages on gsmarena and juxtapose them to find out which is best. i'd say the omnia HD is a good performer in the camera department.

                5. ok. when it comes to the display, i can assure you, this screen is just brilliant. the colours u see on the amoled display are breathtaking. i do not think a greater screen resolution would have been to too much help apart from when u're trying to read into really really small font text, or using maps with minute detail.

                6. no idea.. check the gsmarena or other site reviews.

                7. no, we cannot record calls by default on this phone. that's one small lil disappointment. but not to worry. there are 3rd party apps which will help (which dont give certificate problems :D )

                8. i've installed quite a few apps and games. i'd not say that i was able to install all the s60 apps as we face problems like "apps meant only for nokia phones" or sometimes unsigned apps wouldn't work. for some apps, it says "phone does not support, continue anyway" and i've always selected "No" in such cases. but otherwise, i think things like dictionary and recording software etc can be installed. Note: there's already an inbuilt dictionary application

                9. this phone does support java apps.

                10. yes, the camera sound can be turned off (for both camera and video-cam mode separately) if u pay keen attention, you'd only possibly hear the lens (or whatever) move while focusing.

this is a costly piece of equipment, but quite a masterpiece in itself. it'll surely dig a deep hole in your pocket, so choose your next phone wisely.

                cheers

vbhv007, 13 Oct 2009To All Dear Omnia HD Fans, I have been following this foru... moreI dont think that a fast processor has anything to do with how responsive the screen is. A resistive screen and a capacitive screen are totally different. A capacitive screen uses electric pulses from your fingers to work while a resistive allows you to use anything. Think of a capacitive screen as a strong magnet. A resistive screen only responds a few times to a harder tap while the capcitive uses the slightest touch. Ive seen a video on youtube showing the satio, and its responsiveness was really bad although it has a fast processor. Laptops use capacitive touch pads for more response. The iphone is the best example for a very responsive phone. A faster processor will just give you a faster response.

To All Dear Omnia HD Fans,
I have been following this forum for quite a while. I learned a lot in the past few months. Many Goods…some bads and so on. However I still want to put forth some queries which are more in the nature of discussions.
                          1) I am really beating my head since the last few months in deciding which one to buy: SE Satio, Samsung Pixon 12 or the forum’s champion; i8910HD. I have been following all the details about the Resistive Vs Capacitive screen battle (Unfortunately BOTH 12 MP phones are resistive) but I believe if the processor is fast enough (as in the pixon 12) then should not the phone response also be fast? I really would not mind pressing the phone a little bit more if that is the case. I mean how irritating can a resistive screen be in everyday use ?(Please consider processor speed also before answering unlike some other Samsung/ Nokia phones with shitty resistive screens and lesser processing speed). Would Samsung and Sony Ericsson (both who are masters in making cellphones and definitely know more than all of us about mobile making) be dumb enough to release both their kick-ass 12 MP devices with resistive screens if they were not good enough (I am sure they know that capacitive screens are the popular choice in all mobile forums.)
                          2) I am new to handling touch screens, so my greatest nightmare would be if this phone falls down, then is the screen likely to crack or break or would the touch sensitivity be affected. If the screen does break somehow, how much would it cost to get it repaired?
                          3) Is there anything special in the protective glass coating in the i8910 screen that makes it more durable than that of Pixon 12 or Satio.
                          4) How does the Omnia HD camera sensor, shutter speed and apperture compare to that of the pixon 12 and Satio. Though I know that adding more Mega Pixels is more of a marketing gimmick than actual usage, but the XENON flash is the “SOLE FACTOR” that has kept me from buying this phone. No xenon means that I can’t use this phone for low light indoors or during DJ Nights with extreme low lights. My earlier Nokia N82 had a legendary camera with great xenon. So anything less than a xenon would actually be a degrade for me.
                          5) Is there any remarkable or breathtaking difference in daily use bw the 360X680 resolution of i8910 & 480X800 resolution of Pixon 12.
                          6) We know that i8910 is HD as it can play HD movies and record HD. But does that mean that Pixon 12 can’t play HD movies even though it has higher resolution (480X800)?
                          7) Can we record calls in this by default or by installing a software?
                          8) (This is aimed mainly at Indian Users but anyone who can help is welcome)
Can we install new S 60 applications (like java games downloaded from net/ new themes or other usual phone softwares like call record, dictionaries etc ? I know, this question seems silly, but believe me, whenever I tried doing that in my earlier Nokia N82- it simply showed untrusted software certificate or application not supported (even though it was the latest Symbian S 60 platform…That sucked big time- to have a high end device in your hand and not being able to use it for fun applications)
                          9) Pixon 12 is not a smartphone but it can do multitasking. So how does it matter whether it has a symbian OS or not like the Omnia HD. Can we install java aopplications and other softwares I mentioned in Pixon 12.

                          10) Can the Camera shutter sound be put on silent mode while clicking?

I apologise for such a long post and so many questions but I want the forum members to understand that this is a big investment for me and I sincerely want to get my facts correct before I take a decision rather than having to stick with a wrong choice for the next couple of years.

I would be truly grateful to all the people who can contribute in helping me with the questions I have. Please take some time and post your valuable suggestions. Looking forward to responses from all the active members of the forum..

Great Phone. Due to go a long way before it gets outdated. Just a Xenon would make it unconquerable

Yes, the backlight is LED's instead of flourescent tube on older LCD TV's Its much thinner and uses half the energy of them also. And the colors are much more vivid , especialy black.

Go to a TV store and look at one.
