Considering your average Blueray disc is bigger in size than the SGS, where would you expect to put the disc? ;-)

Seriously though, no it doesn't do Blueray. You would have to RIP and convert your Blueray movie to an AVI for it play on an SGS.

        All the best.

Thinking about it, your phone is actually still within the warranty period. The phone carries a 24 month warranty, and as the phone wasn't released until June 2010 there is still eight months of warranty left.

aadi, 13 Oct 2011i want to know that is their any risk while upgrading to la... moreseems odd. I was going to try and speak to samsung to confirm what my provider said was true. I was told that Samsung service centres would update my phone even when the warranty has expired. I also asked (as I was getting the gingerbread update....which I now have) that if I use F.O.T.A.(updating without a PC) which gingerbread allows us to do, and for instance the 3g signal drops during the update, then would it brick my phone. The answer was yes. However I was told that Samsung would sort that out also. I would like to hear that myself from them. I may use a wifi connection for future updates. There is a Samsung service centres list on the UK Samsung. page.......maybe check with others if they can update or sort out.

Sadly, it is true. There is always a slight risk of bricking the phone when performing an update, especially via Kies.
However, it's also very easy to revive a dead phone if it's been bricked by Kies. All you need to do is to use a PC application called Odin. Use Google to find out all you need to know on how to use Odin to upgrade the firmware on the Galaxy S.

                  All the best.

There is no reason why your phone cannot be updated, either by a Service Centre or by yourself.
You mention that your phone is out of it's Warranty period, and I would guess that the Service Centre are just trying to con you into buying a new phone from them (at least that is what it sounds like).

                          @ UK User

Glad you've sorted it now. Can I ask what backup application you are using? I used to use Titanium backup but found it very slow when you needed to restore your apps because you had to give permissions for each app it wanted to restore.

I've since discovered the joy of Clockwork Mod's backup and restore. The restore feature lets you restore all in one go without the phone constantly asking for permissions for each app.

                          Cheers.

I did a F.R again, put apps on phone, and this time the market adds are showing as before. (the other adds I mentioned were Google adds that market has an option to show when using Google....at the side of search.screen)

oh....funny story when I took my phone to my provider to send back to Samsung to update. I took phone carefully out of pouch, then they took of the silicone protection, and took out batery, SD card, and gave me them all including the plastic back.......then shortly after they took the imei details they dropped the phone on the floor LOL!

Thankfully they send them off in bubble wrap in an envelope.

Also put your apps on SD card and then try that way first to redownload your apps to the phone, after putting the sd card in new phone. And to help out get a back up apps app from market....as I mentioned I found when my OS was updated, I then had to go to market and redownload the back up apps app, and it stored all the apps I had. So basically SD card first,.....and then try "back up apps" app, as not all apps can be moved/saved to SD card. (to move apps to SD....you need apps to SD from market)

However, problem solved maybe. I think the adverts are different? As i found that through market settings (the g.b new version) that i can now choose what adds are appropriate for me, like entertainment or whatever etc etc. Whereas before the adverts would be advertising market without a choice. I havent tried settings yet.
