Hi,
I did a XXJVS upgrade rom and the CF kernel for it.
Evrything seems to be OK.But one question. When I reset the phone (reboting is fine),it throws during the boot and end in having usual reboot?
(mainly the CWM is spitting these errors)

To get a better perspective on the custom ROM,what all aspects the ROM available at http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-install-xxjvs-firmware-update-galaxy-s-i9000-to-android-2-3-5/ differs with the CynogenMod ROM?
One gauranted thing will be kernel, anything in Android s such?If so which one is better?

Excellent stuff. Speaking of batteries, a friend of mine has just fitted a new battery to his HTC Wildfire S. It's a massive 2200 mAh battery, but it makes the phone three times as thick.

Anyway, my battery gave out on me last night whilst I was watching Sky news on my phone. I think it was upto two days and eight hours use when it died, which is still excellent considering the amount of use the phone had, plenty of web surfing, emailing and watching videos as well as texting and calling.

      Cheers.

        @ Ray

It has now been 2d 0h 0m 22s since I last charged my battery. I have used it to make calls, send texts, and also used Bluetooth and Wifi for a short while and the battery STILL shows 58% remaining.

My previous estimate might have been a little optimistic but it's still better than it's ever lasted.

I haven't experienced any problems with the wifi on my SGS so far. I use it a lot at home and have always experienced a very good performance. Also I've never any problems with public wifi spots when I have been out. I suppose it differs with where you live and with what supplier you have; and also what wifi hotspots are available publicly.

The same applies to GPS. I have never used it personally, but again it depends on the strength of the signal available. (I think Ray might be the better one to comment on that).

I own a Galaxy S and can fully relate to what you're saying about the battery life!
The solution is by turning off your 3G by choosing the 'GSM' mode in your:
                1. Setting
                2. Wireless and networks
                3. (down the bottom) mobile networks
and then choosing the GSM instead of the automatic dual connection!
Do this and I'm sure you get at least twice as much battery life!

Ihave 'Googled' Odin and found this link for you to look at. It is a bit dated now but it will show you the basics of how to use Odin.
It also contains a link to download Odin v1.82 - which is the latest version.

OK. The simpliest way to explain it is this....

Kies is a piece of software developed by Samsung to allow your phone to be recognised by your PC and to make backups, upgrades, and transfer photos, videos etc. to it. It is OK but people like Ray and myself have found that it isn't as good as Samsung would have you believe and don't use it.
Odin is also a piece of software that also links your phone to your PC for upgrading it, and that is all it does, it won't damage your phone in any way.
Kies is region specific, that is, it will only upgrade your phone if the latest Samsung version is available for your region. Even when an upgrade is available some carriers will not allow you to upgrade until their modified version is available.
Odin doesn't have that restriction. It will upgrade your phone regardless of your region, carrier etc., but if you do that then your Warranty with your carrier could be void. (So if your phone perhaps suffers a major malfunction they can refuse to repair it if they wish).
I've never had any problems using Odin, but it a matter of personal taste whether you use it or not.

                          Hope that helps...

I take it you mean 'Firmware', not 'Software', (A common mistake that people make, but don't worry).
Firmware is the Operating System your phone uses. Software are the Apps you install. I will take it that you are talking about the OS.
Upgrading is relatively easy to do. The first time is daunting and I was worried about doing it, but it was easy and is worth doing for the improvement you get.
I have flashed my phone from the original v2.2.1 to v2.3.3 to v2.3.4 and now to v2.3.5 (LOL) without any problems, but I would point out (as it states on the link), that you do so at your own risk.
Flashing your phone using Odin will 'wipe' your phone of your Contacts and Apps, but there are Apps available to allow you to back up the above to your SD card if you wish..
It's all down to personal taste. People like Ray and myself are happy to upgrade our phones without worrying about Warranties and the such, but I would point out that.
                              Good Luck.

Read the page two or three times before beginning. It is use complaining about 'All my contacts are missing' or 'My Apps have disappeared' after flashing your phone.

Gingerbread v2.3.5 is very fast and seems very stable; I haven't experienced one 'Force Close' since installing.
Battery life is also much improved; my phone shows 77% charge remaining after 1d 12h 25m 12s use.

Mostly I've been using it for emails and internet so WiFi and packet data have been active quite a bit. Which is excellent for a smart phone.
So far I'm very impressed with JVS, but I have noticed that the Layar app is missing. Not sure if it was intentionally left out by Samsung or it's missing because JVS isn't an official release. Either way, it doesn't matter as it's available from the Android market anyway.
