Undoubtedly the phone is good.But pl keep it mind that his product has reached the End of Life.Whatever you are seeing it in the shops are the last ones.

Which is better... moreThe ace has a smaller processor, and i have read users say that this means they cannot run adobe flash player. So basically its which type of flash u want. The camera is fine, although obviously pictures in a really dark setting will be affected. Its just an ok usable camera, thats better in daylight like most cameras. I obviously prefer the sgs and love the 4 inch screen, and speed.

First impressions of 2.3.5 JVS:
Phone feels noticeably faster and gave me a Quadrant score of 1439.
The default browser is smooth and quick when scrolling through web pages.
Battery life looks like it has improved significantly. I'm currently on 68% remaining and it's been running for 21 hours and 26 minutes from a full charge (and a battery stats file deletion). Screen shot of battery usage if your interested: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30612400/SC20110914-113144.png.
I haven't found any bugs so far or delved too deeply to give a full review, but so far it's looking quite good.

If you want to use the ChainFire method to root just download the correct root for your firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108.
Just make sure you download the correct one that matches your firmware version. So if your firmware version is JPY for example, download the JPY root file. Unzip it to a convenient location.
Now for the easy bit. Put your phone into download mode by holding the volume down button, then the home button and finally the power button and keep holding all three until the phones screen shows your in download mode. Now launch Odin (download from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MADK0XTB if you haven't already got it) and connect your phone to the PC via USB cable. Now click the PDA button, where you will be asked the location of the root file you just downloaded. Locate it and press OK. Make sure that Re-partition is NOT ticked and that Auto reboot and F.Reset time ARE ticked. Now click Start and in less than a minute your phone will be rooted. Wait for the phone to restart fully and then you can safely remove the USB cable.
Job done.

One question on rooting.Where can I find the procedure for ODIn based rooting?
I used the superneclick for my galaxy3 and was working fine.
In SGS withe the stock 2.3.3,the superon click has some issues(I am yet to try it).
My intention of rooting is for downclocking in the night for a better battery back up .so no need for me to have custom rom,simple root access alon on the stock rom.

You are correct about the risk of virus infection, especially with a rooted phone. Rooting actually makes the phone more susceptible to virus attacks. However, installing a good anti virus solution and only installing apps from trusted sources should keep your phone virus free. It's the same logic you would apply to a Windows based PC. Use common sense when surfing the internet and installing applications.
Freefaller already mentioned the near impossibility of actually bricking the phone and I concur. Flashing the SGS with leaked or custom ROM's and rooting using Odin is extremely safe and simple to do. Your point regarding Kies is correct though. Kies has a higher chance of bricking the SGS than Odin has, because Kies is an abysmal piece of software and should be avoided like the plague.
Lastly, I don't really care about my SGS that much so I'm happy to take risks with it if it means I can run the latest version of Android. A lot of people love trying out new custom ROM's such as Darky's to further enhance the experience of owning an SGS. The one thing I cannot fault the SGS on is the flexibility of being able to install custom Firmwares and to do as you please with it.

However, during the rooting of the device a lot of unforeseen things can happen that can accidentally brick your device. Even samsung technicians are not recommending the official upgrade to be done via keis because if the internet connection gets cut-off during the process this will also brick the device. Also with so many viruses in the android market, during the actual rooting of the device can expose the phone to viruses. In addition, not all users are technically capable to do the rooting. Accidents can happen and the unknowing owner of galaxy s can ruin their device. Is worth the risk? Well it depends to individual owner of this phone. However, I respect all your opinions and decisions. Risk is always taken to improve technology and performance. Right...

No worries. I shall spend a few days testing out JVS and report back if there are any improvements/bug fixes.
Talking of warranties, I found out today that although the SGS has a 24 month warranty (excluding any accessories that came with the phone) the battery is only covered by a SIX month warranty. I think it's time for me to start shopping for a new battery before this one dies on me.
