It's a fair comment. If your into that sort of thing, flashing roms to try different ones out can be interesting.

I agree with your comment about non-tech savvy types ought to be using iPhones. That gave me a chuckle.

Just a little correction though. JVR is still only 2.3.4.
I don't know about a 2.3.5 yet unless you know different.

Cheers.

I have flashed 2.3.3. 2.3.4 and now 2.3.5 JVP, JVQ and JVR.

All are okay but I missed the call recording feature of Darky's 9.5.

And I get 5 days battery now with normal usage. I use Root Explorer to delete the bloatware from Samsung.

As I stated, its almost impossible to 'brick' an SGS.

It pays to read and learn and I learned everything from the good people at XDA forum.

I suggest people that are not very tech savvy and don't want to learn,. Just buy an iphone and be done with it.

I had no choice but to use Odin to upgrade the firmware on my SGS. The reason being, Kies would inform me that " This version of the Firmware cannot be updated ". This is because the SGS I got from Virgin Mobile UK came with a Firmware version that had never passed through Samsung servers or Kies (JPW). So, my only option was to flash my phone with JPY and then upgrade to JVO via Kies when it was released in May.
Kies has been a nightmare for me since so I don't bother with it anymore and just flash the latest version when I could be bothered.

        Cheers.

I too tried Darky's 9.5 Extreme Edition ROM, and like you I found it lacking. It also installed apps that I didn't want nor use.

Because using that Rom voided my warranty I upgraded my SGS to Gingerbread v2.3.4 by going here.

          http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/

There, users will find links to the official Samsung Rom and Odin3 v1.7, which is used to flash the Rom.
This Rom retains the Official Touchwiz interface you are used to.
Read the instructions CAREFULLY and back up your contacts etc. before beginning.
The process takes 10 - 15 minutes to complete, and I have been using this Rom without any trouble for nearly 2 months now.

However, today i found out that samsung sgs 1900 can use a 3000 mAh power battery. It comes with a replacement back cover for the phn as it is a larger battery. Looks a good option as well.

[deleted post] I can't resist it. I've noticed that when you are being insulting you stay anonymous, but at other times you give a name. However, you can still be identified by the same 4 character encoded location. Yours is 0r1{.

You've asked previously why people stay on stock and why they still use kies. The obvious answer to that is most people do not want to start messing about flashing custom firmwares as they expect their phones to work out of the box. They also want to preserve the warranty on the phone. Further, their are handsets out there that are unable to enter download mode (my friends 3network branded sgs is such an example) so even if they wanted to flash the phone they couldn't, unless they were prepared to go through the process found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698. But that might be a little daunting for some.

Quick question for you. If you have never had any problems with the GPS or the phone, why do you keep changing custom roms?

              Best regards.

Freefaller, 11 Aug 2011Ignore him Ray, he's probably tired from looting shops all day!I'll do just that. Some people can get very defensive over a piece plastic. I'm also suspicious of people who post anonymously. He always brings darkys rom into it as well. Honestly I tried it and didn't rate it as highly as he does. It was OK but not brilliant.

Good to see you're still around.

Depending on your country the latest version of Android is Gingerbread. Honeycomb is for Tablets, not phones. The SGS will never see Honeycomb. It will get Icecream Sandwich though, possibly later on this year.
