Could I go back to Android v2.2.1 Froyo via "odin" program and download the the required rom for doing that?
      I'm now on v2.3.3 JPJV6
Knowing that I haven't rooted my phone
I want to do that due to a huge battery drain in my phone right now due to this version.

People, my phone needs some serious help. So, please help! :)
I have read a couple of articles about this phones performance. And when you do a Quadrant test it should be at least 1150-1200... Depends on what android you have... as i understood it ;) So, I did a test of my SGS via Quadrant Standard (don't know if it makes any difference if it is Q.Standard or Quadrant, that you have to pay for...) and a result was ONLY 805. I tried it couple times again and it didn't go over 900 once... So what is it with my phone and how can i fix it? ... And it runs on android 2.2 (baseband version- I9000XXJPP ; kernel v. - 2.6.32.9 root@SE-S608 #1 ; build number - FROYO.XFJP9). This is what I got when i bought it, and it is new, and never been routed or anything else...

Uninstall all "battery defender" apps. They often promise more then they deliver. Instead install "Advanced Task Killer", "SwitchPro Widget" and "Color". Set ATK auto-kill level to "Crazy" and Frequency" to "Then screen off". Just be sure to build the recommended Ignore-list, and add a few manually if needed. Place a ATK widget on each homescreen-page. Configure SPW to at least include toggle-buttons for Brightness (on the far left - and between Lowest and Auto only), GPS, Battery-indicator, Lock-screen (on the far right). Dont have ANY GPS, Wifi or BT-functions on routinely - only if/then needed. Configure black static background-picture with "Color". Static background saves battery and Black color-choice saves even more om Amoled screens. Configure manual e-mail checks only. Apps like "3G watchdog" and similar should update in an hour-basis - non each and every minute.

Given that battery is 99-100% then bedtime, 7-8 hours later of inactivity its about 95-96%. After a full day of moderate use I have 65-75% left. Moderate does not include hourlong video/gaming-sessions though.

For those who updated to 2.3.3 via kies to firmware ddjv9 and find its consuming lots of battery like, it reduces form 100% to 40% over night with out any usage, these might help you. Go to settings> applications> memory usage> select "software update" and "samsung account" and clear data. Then restart the phone and see the difference.
This worked for me, hope it works for you also. now my battery reduces like 2% an hour without any usage and background data is still on!!!. Do let me know if it worked for you.

I guess u could do the usual stuff for saving battery, like installing screen filter(dimming the screen when u want to....its great for night reading also), u can also try turning off 3g when u are not using it(i bought switchpro and have 2 dual switch widgets on my homescreen, one for 3g on off, and brightness settings, and one for bluetooth, and also one to lock/turn the screen off....which immedietely times out the screen at a press). If u buy this app, then u must touch an empty space on the homescreens to then bring up a menu to select widgets/switches, and shortcuts. I also use widgetzoid(which is free) as it is far better. I have ten switches in a bar at the top of my homescreen, including bookmarks. I found 3g on/off only worked on switch pro so i use both. These apps save time and battery...but can take a while to work out. If u lose 3g connection whilst trying these apps, and it isnt network problems, then just delete the switch, and app, then reinstall the apps. Also u can turn off the auto rotation senser if not in use to save battery, and obviously background data. But turning off 3g/data connection will definetely stop the phone connecting to 3g on its own. I also have a switch for flight mode, that i use if i want to play a game, or you tube vid on the tv. Its also really handy to see the battery level on the homescreen which widgetzoid provides. U can also put a program monitor on your homescreen right now. Press an empty space in homescreens, press widgets, select program monitor. This will turn off running apps that stay off till u use them next.
