They were clearly giving the impression imo, that gingerbread is officially released on the sgs.

                      Why is everyone using Kies?

Go to XDA forum and learn how to flash your phone . Its easy for anyone who has half a brain.

I don't even have Kies on my computer. I can do ANYTHING using the mass storage option to transfer files.

I should have added in my previous post that when you connect your Galaxy to Kies and the arrow just sits there spinning round it doesn't mean that the phone is connecting to your PC; it means that your phone is trying to connect to Samsung's servers, and can't.
That's why the software is so poor!

I have realised recently how flawed Kies is; and I mean SERIOUSLY flawed.
I have a Galaxy S and so does my wife. I also have a modern powerful PC with the latest version of Kies installed. This is my experience.
If I connect my phone to the PC then Kies recognises it - sometimes?. If I then disconnect mine and comnnect the other Galaxy then Kies can't find it (the connecting arrow spins for ages without success).
I have to uninstall Kies (I use Revo Uninstaller), and clean the registry out of all the junk Samsung leaves on your PC. Then reboot the PC and reinstall Kies again. Then, most of the time, Kies will recognise the second Galaxy, but not always.
But, Kies then cannot find my phone and I have to go through all of the above AGAIN if I want to connect my phone.
I could buy a laptop I suppose and load one phone on each machine, but why spend £300 to use a flawed piece of software?
So, if your Galaxy just sits there with the connecting arrow spinning round for ages, take heart in knowing that's it's not your fault. That blame lies with Samsung's software.

                                      I am on 2.3.4 JVQ Darky's 10.2 RE edition.

With Semaphore kernel cranking out quadrant of 2405 without overclock. When I OC it to 1.2 I get Quadrant of 3000+

Ginderbread 2.3.4 (XXJVQ) update available in the UK.

I have updated my unbranded Carphonewarehouse phone from standard Samsung firmware 2.3.3.

Too early to say how it behaves. The GPS was broken again in version 2.3.3 upgrade. Have not tested if it has been fixed.

The most obvious improvement is batterly life. Battery is at 60% after 18 hours light usage. Normally it would be 20-30%.

Quadrant score went from 1050 to 1344 and the phone feels sligtly faster.
