The message " This version of the device cannot be updated " means it is an unsupported version of Android. I had the same message with my SGS on Virgin Mobile UK. The version of Android I had was JPW which was specific to Virgin Mobile. What I had to do then was to flash my phone with an update using Odin.
I would suggest you Google for instructions on how to do this yourself. There are plenty of guides available on the internet.

I have been using Nokia all my life. This is the 1st time I am using a Samsung. Was a bit foxed at the beginning, but now I have come to really love this Phone. It is a beauty with so many hidden features that I keep discovering everyday. I recommend this phone to anyone who is a Mobile Lover and is extremely careful with his/her phone

I also have i9000.This is very cool, luxry superphone.16 GB internal memory helps me to do all my technical jobs,5 MP camera is ultimate,snaps are very clear.Android provides lots of applications like netbanking,social networking,wordpress,firefox,gtalk,yahoomail,gmail,exchange mail,Games (Angary Birds),fring,maps.

There are lots of "battery defender" apps out there, but uninstall them all and instead went for "Advanced Task Killer" + "SwitchPro Widget". The combination of Killer frequency set to "Crazy" then screen is off (just be sure to define exceptions) plus a Killer-widget on every screen plus one-click access to Brighness-toggle, LockScreen and other switches really made a big difference.

Hey guys, i haev the SGS and i can't download the facebook app. Everytime it redirects me to download the android version it keeps saying page not found or something went wrong. I currently have the 2.2 version installed. A little help? Thanks

Niks, 27 Jul 2011Guyz... my fone's battery sucks.... it drains really rapidl... moreDude even i faced the same situation. Keep the display brightness to min. Close all the applications when not in use. Do not use live wallpapers. Try to clear you RAM Memory as much as possible frequently.
I saw a great change in my battery life. It works.

Guyz... my fone's battery sucks.... it drains really rapidly.... during the whole night it gets 33% from 100%. plz suggest me any alternative such as solar charges or extra battery or coustom rom(if it helps). or anything that helps.
