    HI guys,
I am using galaxy s from last 7 months in india. this is good mobile with great hardware, but service poing on view worst. HTC desire also compariable mobile with this and announced about 2.4 update, where as galaxy s is strucked at 2.2.1 and no proper announcement of 2.3 with dates.
If you buy Galaxy S2 also you will face this problem, we are buying galaxy bcz of android and updates which is poor with samsung.

    Need example:-
My friend purchased HTC Wildfire and got 2.2 update before galaxy s and over air, without distrubing apps and contacts, where as in galaxy all went deleted. Do you knoe cost of wildfire 15000 rupees, half of the price of galaxy which i taken.

my openin is dont invest in samsung.

Kabalyero, 22 Feb 2011Thank you very much BlueOrange for the very detailed guide,... moreOTA on 2.2.1 does not work, Samsung is releasing their update thru their iTunes rip-off kies.

About the battery, it's just the same, if you want to improve your batery, flash the speedmod kernel. Just search for it at the XDA corundum

Kabalyero, 22 Feb 2011Thank you very much BlueOrange for the very detailed guide,... moreyou can download the Odin 1.52 here: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B11Khukd5OSxYmM0MGEzMzYtNzdjOC00ZWIyLWIzYWQtMWI2YWJlOGIyMDFl&export=download&hl=en

you can use whatever versions of Odin, I use 1.8 when I flashed the JS5 firmware.

OTA doesn't work, it will just try to connect you on a bada server. even the Europeans have that problem.

ROMS usually takes a week or two before it runs normally. battery is almost the same w/ DXJPE, if you want to improve your battery, you need to flash the speedmod kernel

                  speedmod kernel: http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html

BlueOrange, 22 Feb 2011I'm on 2.2.1 WXJS5 firmware. & yes Android Market works... moreThank you very much BlueOrange for the very detailed guide, it's a lot of help. You're the man!

As of now, I've tried doing both the download and recovery button combos and was successful based from the images that you posted.

Since the version of JS5 I downloaded is the "New" one and my Odin is 1.8, I'll be making the attempt some other time from now.

Just some last questions. Where were you able to get Odin 1.52? I only saw 1.0, 1.3 and 1.8 in Samfirmware. Also, you mentioned in an earlier post that you also tried the JPY version of 2.2.1? Just curios (although this maybe a dumb question), why did you not use OTA or Kies to updates to JS3 or JS5? Does manually flashing my Asian Galaxy S with the official European Firmware disable OTA or Kies Update? Lastly, did the battery improve compared to the last official update in the Philippines (DXJPE)?

Again, my apologies for the tons of questions. Thanks a lot for the great help and guidance! :)

Kabalyero, 22 Feb 2011Thanks BlueOrange for the advise. I've now downloaded the f... moreI'm on 2.2.1 WXJS5 firmware. & yes Android Market works fine on my phone & still doesnt have the paid tab (bec. I'm in the Philippines)

first of all I have one question. does your 3 button combo works? to know if your 3BC works, go put your phone into DEBUG MODE. then turn off your phone (wait for it to vibrate). now pres volume down + home + power button (download mode). if your successful, you should be able to see this image http://www.careace.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Galaxy-S-Download-Mode.jpg

then try if you can go to recovery, turn off again then press volume up + home + power. you should be able to see this image http://itd.itd.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/SamsungGalaxySwithAndroid2.jpg

now for the flashing. this is for the single file (no pit file)

                          1. extract the file you download from samfirmware (make sure to download the old file JS5, the one that dont have "NEW")

                          2. put your phone into download mode

                          3. connect your phone to the PC

                          4. now open Odin (I use the later version, not the 1.8). your Odin should look like this http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Jv7eyrf0NuM/TOefSPG9v7I/AAAAAAAAACA/m9wv88JYfVc/s1600/Odin-Phone.jpg

                          5. make sure that now put the tar file you extracted earlier to the PDA. make sure the re partition is UNCHECKED while auto reboot & f. reset time is CHECKED

                          6. now press start. it will now start to flash the firmware into your phone.

                          7. if you successfully flashed the firmware, your phone will reboot automatically. be patient, after the reboot, your phone will flash the "S" logo for a while (1-3 mins.). after that, you will see the homescreen. and thats it, you now have 2.2.1 JS5 firmware on your Galaxy S.

just a reminder, if you are using lagfix. DISABLE ALL YOUR LAGFIX FIRST BEFORE FLASHING A FIRMWARE. you will brick your phone if you don't disable the lagfix.

sorry I'm not familiar on flashing w/ the pit file included, I only flash the single file method.

flashing using the 3 file method (w/ pit file) will remove your apps, messages & contacts).

you can also get the instruction on samfirmware.com

BlueOrange, 22 Feb 2011Flasg the European 2.2.1 firmware. European firmwares work ... moreThanks BlueOrange for the advise. I've now downloaded the files from samfirmware but would need some help/clarification regarding the flash process.

What version of firmware did you install and which Odin version did you use? I currently have the JS5 European firmware on standby along with Odin 1.8 and the 803 pit file. I've read on samfirmware.com that you will not need the pit file if you are gonna flash with just a single file (the tar file for the PDA) but it seems that some other people did it (and were apparently successful) based from the comments here. If it is possible, can you list the procedure/files you used?

On the other hand, after flashing, are you able to use the android market in the same way that you used it before? No limitations/problems? Also, does the Paid Apps appear after you flashed the phone or is it still the same as before wherein we only get the free apps in the philippines?

My apologies for the tons of questions that I have. I just need to be perfectly sure as this is my first time to do this. Many thanks in advance! :)
