If you have not used the GPS for a long time it might have to load a full GPS almanac, which takes 12.5 minutes to receive. Same for all GPS devices.
Things to try:
1. Install app "GPS Status", which shows satellites one by one as they come into view in the sky. Test with GPS Status.
2. In status menu, turn GPS off, then on. Test with GPS Status.
3. Restart phone. Test with GPS Status.

type i9000 xda developers and hit enter,
select the very first link,
this will open SGS i9000 android rom developement page and on that page you will find a threads with diff ROMS and Kernels,
so select ROM as per your choice or needs,
download ROM which is in a ZIP file,
transfer it to your phone Internal Memory and flash it using CWM recovery mode,
your phone will be restarted and your can start using your phone.
MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED,
If its not then you need to root your phone first,
to know how to root there are many videos available on YouTube.

But using ODIN tool will void your phone warranty.
If you still want to use ODIN tool to update your phone with Stock GB 2.3.6 or custom versions of Jelly Bean 4.2.2 then you may proceed by logging on to www.xda-developers.com,
but make sure you read complete instruction and then proceed further,
I had GB 2.3.6 but after rooting my phone I got JB 4.2.2 installed.
I am using C-Rom v15 based on JB 4.2.2 and if you install this you will get S4 look,apart from that it comes with a DSP Manager,its a Sound Enhancement plug-in which will create a big improvement in your phone sound output through headphones.

plug your phone with your computer with a USB cable,
you device will with KEIS and will give you a prompt that update is available for your phone and you just need to follow the instruction.....that's it .....your phone will be updated with a latest GB 2.3.6.
