The phone is crap and the support also.. just google all the problems..
The 3g connection on my SGS always fluctuates and most of the time I have no signal. Never had 3g connection problems on other phones
I've sent the phone in service and was sent back to me having the same problem

froyo launched yesterday in Italy!
andro 2.2 is much fastes that 2.1, but 2.1 + voodoo lagfix is still the best...i wonder if the lagfix will work on 2.2?!

amazing device guyz...bt whts wrong vit its battery !!! talk time claim is abt 13 hrs !!! it doesnt last long for evn 5 hrs.(with vry modr8 use) !!! have tried apps killer...it has improoved a bit...bt still way behind then catchin their claim of 13 hrs...and why does it get so hot after browsing for abt 10-15 mints and while charging as well !!! any thoughts on that guyz???

Hi! the SGS is more smart than your Iphone 4 and N8 of nokia because that is not a super AMOLED it is only LED for Iphone and Amoled for Nokia and the specification of that phone are not really upgradable unlike SGS.
So sell your Phone and buy a new SGS smart phone ^_^......

does it support free LIFETIME worldwide nav like nokias?
that's the only reason not to go samsung route if it doesn't support such thing.
I want to be able to start the nav software and way to go (on the go, without wifi without hotspots without 3g)

I updated mine to And 2.2. Dailymotion OK. When starting video it suggest Video Player or Internet (browser). Just select Video Player.

What I think is overrated is the iPhone with its very limited capabilities - phone signal problem, no file transfer via bluetooth, no battery change, no video call over cellular network, no way of changing batteries, no external memory card, etc. These features are all in Galaxy S. Too bad innocent people like you don't know what a really good phone is - just go with the very popular choice like iPhone despite the so-many-limitations that it has.
To be fair, one thing that I like about apple in general (which of course also related to the iPhone) is the customer support. They are not crap like Samsung Support. Previously, I also thought that their app market is superb to the Android market (until now i still think that they have the edge) but the android market is catching up really fast with new deals being being formalized by google with developers. Especially with the very aggressive increase of mobile phones making use of Android, I'm pretty sure that the android market will take over leadership pretty soon.
In the end of the day, the "best phone" will be very subjective amongst users. I for myself bought the Galaxy S because at the time of my purchase a month ago (and up to now of course), I thought that it is currently the best phone in the market. I had the iphone 4, htc desire and galaxy s in the final list. It was a bit easy for me to take out HTC Desire based from what I've reviewed (sorry friends from HTC)and so SGS and IP4 battled it out. After comparing the technical specifications of both phones, reading reviews from websites (like the ever dependable GSMArena) and actual comparison, I've decided that for my needs, the Galaxy S is the clear winner. It's supposedly a bit cheaper than the IP4 but because I can't get it via contract from the Philippines (no stocks available from the service providers), I bought it directly from Samsung and had to shell out additional amounts of money. Anyway, as I compared it to the IP4, I became more certain that I made the right choice.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy S which I've updated to Froyo. I didn't had any problems with the process itself, and I can tell you that the phone came out superbly after the update. Perhaps something went wrong with your friends phone during update? MIshaps during firmware upgrade can brick the device.
With respect to customer support, I totally agree with you that Samsung is full of crap. When I saw the update on a Saturday morning, I immediately tried to download it and install in the phone but Smartbro is just too damn slow to get a working connection (yes, its also full of crap). I brought my unit to Samsung Service Center in megamall and after telling them that the upgrade is already available, they told me that no official word came to them and so they won't do anything. I asked them if they were using samsung kies, they told me that they did. It is from Samsung Kies that I found out about the update. I then told them to just connect my phone and see for themselves the availability of the update but they won't even do it. The funny thing is, I purchased this phone in cash from one of their official retailers at 32, 290 pesos and they won't even give me five minutes of their time - hookup the phone to their computer, open kies and click the update firmware button.
Anyway, I went to this computer shop with a really fast wifi service the following day, took out my laptop and Galaxy S then performed the update. Everything went well and I am very pleased with the speed boost and extra new features after the update.
