                    Is this the right way??????????
Prolong the Life of Your Battery
                    ==================================
Initialize a new battery. New batteries should be fully charged before their first use to obtain maximum capacity. Nickel-based batteries should be charged for 16 hours initially and run through 2-4 full charge/full discharge cycles, while lithium ion batteries should be charged for about 5-6 hours. Ignore the phone telling you that the battery is full--this is normal but is not accurate if the battery is not initialized. #DO NOT fully discharge a lithium-ion battery! Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries' life is shortened every time you fully discharge them. Instead, charge them when the battery meter shows one bar left. Lithium-ion batteries, like most rechargeable batteries have a set amount of chargers in them.[1]

Charge your battery correctly, in accordance with its type. Most newer cell phones have lithium-ion batteries, while older ones generally have nickel-based batteries. Read the label on the back of the battery or in the technical specifications in the manual to determine which yours is.

Nickel-based batteries (either NiCd or NiMH) DO NOT generally suffer from a misunderstood phenomenon known as the "memory effect." As described in Wikipedia and many expert sources,[2] the term "memory effect" has been widely mythologized to describe any and all deterioration of NiCd (and other battery chemistries), in many cases misleading consumers into further shortening the lives of the batteries through over-discharging to "recondition" them.[3]
[This section formerly read: If you charge the battery partially enough times, eventually the battery "forgets" that it can charge fully. A nickel-based battery suffering from memory effect can be reconditioned, which requires the battery to be completely discharged, then completely recharged (sometimes several times). The appropriate length of time between reconditionings varies. A good rule to follow for nickel-battery cell-phones is to discharge them completely once every two to three weeks, and only when you have a charger available. [4] ]
Lithium ion batteries can be preserved by careful charging and avoiding storing them at full charge.[5] They do not require "reconditioning."
Regardless of the battery type, use only a charger rated for your battery, and discontinue use of a charger that causes the battery to heat up excessively.

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2010Does the phone needs the scratch guard yes i believe SGS screen is not scratch resistant so a scratch guard would be wise... i dont own one yet but planning to buy one once it gets released in my area a week or 2 from now, but from reading on various reviews, i think i read somewhere that its one of SGS' flaws when compared to iphone4. a flaw that can be resolved with screen protector so thats not a deal breaker for me.

Crunk, 09 Aug 2010Dave Thanks so much for the quick reply, but i also wante... moreHi Crunk,
Im not from US as well, but in our country, the postpaid plans(contracts) will lock you on their network for a given time, in your case 2 yrs. Here, if you opt to cut your contract short of the alloted 2 years, you will be asked to pay a cancellation fee on top of the value of the phone you got from the contract. They will not ask you to return the phone, you will just be asked to pay a certain sum of money (canc. fee + present value of phone + % of unfinished contract) depending on the number of months before your contract expires. If you just stopped paying altogether, your line will be cut, they will still demand payment (+interest if it dragged too long) and you will be black listed from the network so you will be forced to use prepaid sims only from then on. All other networks shares info so if you're blacklisted in one, the other networks won't approve any contract application from you as well. Im not sure if they will block the phone although I know theres a way for them to do that esp since they have the unit code of your free phone. So be wise and be sure if you wanna get into contracts / postpaid lines. The years you are locked is equivalent to the payt to the free phone you got.You can upgrade you contract (if you think you use more, to enjoy freebies) but im not sure you can downgrade it to lower plans. Theres also an early renewal here, where you can renew, upgrade or downgrade your contract 6 months prior to expiration of current contract so you can get another free phone but that will mean you get tied up again for another number of years. Take note this is my experience in the Phils. US contracts might be a bit different but atleast you have an idea on how it goes. Hope this helps.

brynn, 10 Aug 2010Must admit i am struggling getting all set up with settings... moreHi,
I'm one of the early adopters from the Galaxy S, using it for over five weeks now ;-)

You're right about the phone having a wide range of apps sitting there to being used.

                            But regarding to texting messaages:
Why don't you use SWYPE ??
It's way more easy than using the die-hard T9!

It'll take you a day or two to get used, if you're a heavy texter but once you get the hang of it, you'll be asking why it took so long to get this app on a touch phone.

There's also a very good turorial build in the app. which you can enter any time during texting!

For the rest of the phone I would say you get addicted to it ;-)

Why make such a fuzz out of it?
First of all you can get a few earbuds for less than one dollar.

What you're saying about a decent case:
In my line of work I got a lot of contacts with customers from the production industry.

I can tell you that the the price for the production of an alluminium case for the Galaxy S would be 20 fold at least!!
Than again you would need to have a plastic part in the case where the antenna is located because of receiption issues...

If you think about these limitations you can understand that the price of the phone would be too high to be compatitive.

After all the present case is firm enough to withstand dropping and heavy usage for over a year, after which you want to buy another phone anyway.

(and if you're so unlucky to get the case broken, it's far more cheap to replace plastic instead of alluminum)

So, what you say of 'a few dollars' is just for ONE phone.
Samsung produces millions of Galaxy S phones.
So think of the enormous additional costs!

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2010hey can some one help my phone has only 326 ram but in spec... moreCorrect!
Android 2.1 (Eclair) can only address 326 MB.
The phone however DOES HAVE 512 MB.

You'll have to wait 'till september, as Android 2.2 (Froyo) is released for the Galaxy S which is capable of using the full 512 MB :-)

So just hang on a little and you'll be able to update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) using KIES.
