I broke my Iphone 3G a couple of weeks back and rather than spend money on fixing it, I bought a Galaxy S 1 week ago. To start with I was a little disappointed. I was very clumsy with the Android OS as you have to completely unlearn the Iphone way before learning the Android way. After hours of reading in forums, the manual and trial and error, I am now totally in love with this phone. I recommend Downloading the beautiful Widget (use Beautiful home), the aquarium live wall paper and advanced task killer to make it all run smooth. I had to customise a lot of things to get it to work the way I wanted it to. Things like syncing the contacts of facebook with Gmail and your phone that HTC phones do right out of the box are buried, hard to find options but are all there ready to be turned on. Expect to spend a week working out how to make everything work but once you do, the Super AMOLED screen is pure delight, the browsing speed is breathtaking and 3D Games run like a dream. I've heard of overheating issues which surprise me because I have thrashed this phone with everything imaginable and it's barely lukewarm. I must admit that I haven't used the GPS function at all yet so perhaps that is the temperature killer.
The camera is far better than I need but it's great to have it. Video is very high quality too but I haven't tried it at 720p yet. It plays all my South Park Xvids right out of the box and music is easy to navigate
The speaker is much louder than the Iphone speaker and my biggest gripe with the phone is that people who call me tell me it's a little distorted and they don't understand what I'm saying. This seems to be due to the excessively high gain microphone. The beauty of this is that these phones are almost infinitely customisable and there is a hidden menu that adjusts mic gain - problem solved.
In conclusion, buying this phone was the best thing I ever did and I've now firmly converted from the Apple Camp to the Android camp. Although this is not something I would recommend to my 65 year old father (stick to the Iphone Dad - it's way easier to use)

Subramanya, 10 Jul 2010Can some one clear on the following, as i am interested to ... more1. Is there a issue with the Handset in receiving the signals ?
> not that I'm aware - really good reception (even when holding it your left hand!) also radio reception is excellent too
2. Is there flash / torch, that enables to take good photographs during the nighttime?
> no flash on the camera - so photos / videos need to be taken during the day or in a well-lit room - quality of pictures / videos are excellent!
3. How the maps are useful ? Is this google maps? Does it require GPRS connection to locate the places or will it work thru satellite to locate ?
> google maps and either GPS or by using wireless networks - plus full satnav - all excellent
4. Is the Android – OS is better than symbian OS ?
> I'd say so (certainly the old Symbian that I used to use) but it's a question of taste..
5. Why Java is mentioned as third party application ? does this mean, we cannot download any java applications from Internet ?
> You can download Java and pretty much anything else you want!
6. Lastly, how is the battery performance ?
> Take a look at some of my recent posts on this - it's more than acceptable, but make sure you take advantage of the power-saving features that the phone offers...
;)

Bala, 10 Jul 2010Hi I dont know why gsmarena says that about the speaker.... moreWell, my main concerns were OVERHEATING & FEEBLE Loudspeaker. I hope Android on this phone allows file sharing via Bluetooth freely like symbian. And it's not silly and non-obeying like iPhone.

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2010Thanx Bala for the input. I use iPhone 2G (1st version) for... moreHi
I dont know why gsmarena says that about the speaker. I dont have any problem with the speaker, whether to use it as a speakerphone while on call, or incoming call sound, or even playing music. It's quite usable. It may not be as loud as my previous Samsung OmniaHD i8910, or a Nokia 5800 BUT very acceptble volume.
It's priced at 28500 in CHennai, I bought it from Poorvika, Kodambakkam.
There's no reception problem AT ALL in this phone. If at all something of that sorts exists, it's the mobile operator issue and NOT THIS PHONE's issue.
Thanks
