I'm amazed nobody has commented on my previous post regarding the 2.3.6 JW4 upgrade. You don't have to be scared about flashing your phones, it's very easy to do.
I've been running it a few days now and it's very smooth and quick and battery life is terrific (currently on three days use on a single charge).

There is a shiny new leaked official Samsung Gingerbread update available. Version JW4 2.3.6 which includes the Value pack and TouchWiz 4! The same TW4 that first debuted on the Galaxy S II.

Ray thank you so much for helping me out. I have successfully installed ICS 4.0.3 in my SGS. I absolutly agree that 2.3.3 had more features than ICS. However, ICS is better in terms of graphics UI. Font has become more crisp and pictures look sharper than before. I dont know if I am wrong but battery time has improved after putting ICS in my phone.

Like you, I have also installed Gingerbread v2.3.6 VP and can report that it is the best thing that has ever happened to the SGS.
It is blazingly fast, never hangs, and every app runs perfectly.
The problems you are reporting suggest that you either used a corrupted ROM or that you didn't install it correctly.

I am based in the UK and upgraded my Samsung ROM to this so called value pack.
It freezes all the time, when changing the main panels even keyboard. Applications crash all the time or hangs for a long time Yahoo Mail, Viber, WhatsApp, Pulse are all unusable.
I do not know if there is any way to be polite about this.
Samsung we asked for ICS but you gave us more bloatware that made the phone even worse. Please do not burden us with your incompetence !!!

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2012dear okay is not so much change :-) but 2.2 hangs too much ... morethe s plus will always be faster as it has a 1.4 ghz processor. I know exactly what you mean, after using a 1.4 device then the sgs doesnt seem as fast. If you have a samsung service centre nearby then they will update the firmware if they can.(Good to hear that nokia provides a good working gps ,vid callsl. I have never used the gps.

AnonD-3538, 29 Mar 2012 @ Anonymous Sounds like you've got a Firmware that h... morei used skype and nimbuzz on both devices belive me ray the voip calls on symbian 5800 is clear sound than galaxy s even the applications size on android is bigger than symbian . the skype app size on android is 12mb but on symbian 3mb . the nimbuzz size on android 6.50mb but on symbian is 1.93mb . the voip calls working great on symbian , on android always force applictions :( . yes games browser on galaxy s is way better than 5800 symbian

Sounds like you've got a Firmware that hasn't ever been through the Samsung servers, so Kies doesn't recognise it.
Your only option then is to flash your phone yourself using Odin and the correct firmware files for your country/region.

hello all samsung fans and users . guys please really i want help . i was nokia symbian user after that i moved to samsung android user plus fan . i owned galaxy s version 2.2 and without android market :( i downloaded samsung kies and want upgrade my device to 2.3.x but system replayed me 'your device not support software' :( really i am unhappy with samsung . can anyone help me please .

If they had ultraphone category this phone would fit right in,had mine 3months already and only a few small problems popped up,the gps is inaccurate sometimes tellin me that im in another town or to make u-turns on the highway.battery life as well is a downside,occasionally eating up battery all by itself,which seems to be caused by stuck app.but battery life still better than iphone.
On the upside its fast,u wont get better for price,the camera is fairly brilliant although not good at night as it lacks a flash which was a bad decision by samsung.
Its a hard and tough phone,the glass screen is scratchproof and accurate.
I would recommend this phone to everyone,but there is a galaxy s+ which is a bit faster and it only costs about 5% more than an s.
Sadly both of these only support 2.3 at this stage.if u want more get an s2.
