I used to work for Ericsson before Sony joint them and had to say that if a phone does not look attractive enough, not work intuitively enough, is not cheap enough then it is time to be gone for good. That happened to Ericsson when Nokia came out with the best selling phone at that time, the 6xxx series (has more dot matrix lines and some games) if I don't remember correctly. So back in 2000 I switched to a business phone Nokia with a thumb rolling rocker and that phone was really good but too big for clipping around the belt line. Then LG came out with the VX10 and it was even better than the Nokia in terms of reliability. Then Samsung had an unlocked GSM E880 color tiny slide phone and it was reliable as hell but with no speaker I decided to get the Samsung D807 from Cingular BUT as far as I knew Samsung phones have a weak ring tone and speaker so a few months ago when the HTC Touch Diamond started to come out, I did LOTS of research on it and came across the Omnia which specs for specs completely blows its competitor in $600-700 range out of the sky! It is still not the perfect phone for me like not having a slightly larger nice vivid color display like the iPhone and its fast touch response, not having the full VGA display like the HTC Touch Diamond and its cool animated GUI but if you can live with that then the Omnia will carry you at least a few more good years: 16G with optional 16G! 5mpix camera with good quality even in QVGA video (30fps is excellent!), Office on the go. I have not tried the supplied Agis GPS sw yet but via wifi Google maps locked on so fast

Mad Mike, 04 Sep 2008Hey what's Up. I just bought my omnia about a week ago and ... moreHi Mad Mike,

For Ring tones, I believe you probably knew this already but just in case you don't, ringtones can be added in many formats like other normal phones. After bluetoothing or downloading from a source, drag your music or ring tone into "Windows" and then "Ring". Even easier, tap/hold the name of the music or ringtone, select set as ringtone. All downloaded new ringtones can be viewed / deleted at the same "Windows" & "Ring" location.

hi, to all who have error message when loading camera, no need to soft reset just go to the windows task manager ( not samsung task switcher!) The one under Start - Settings - System - task manager and end all tasks there! Camera will then load fine.

If you use this phone on T-mobiles service you instantly get herpes and really slow internet. However the statement about stopping certain features at low battery life is true , i believe its 10%

Hey what's Up. I just bought my omnia about a week ago and i'm blown away by all the features...which I should be for the $600 price tag. The phone is very neat and organized wish a sleek shell. The touch screen is very accurate and sometimes to sensitive. The perks I have with it are that the Camera requires ALOT of memory to open because of the 5 megapixel camera. Even when I use the task manager to close every program that's open, it's still says there is not enough memory and have to restart the phone just to load the camera. But the camera program has alot of extra options for capturing images & videos.

The GPS is accurate but it uses google maps & it's nothing like the manufacture picture showing turn by turn with arrows. However there may be a app that I you have to buy to have something like that.

The Touch Flo doesn't work with every program. Alot of the windows mobile only stuff you have to use the tiny scroll bar on the right to move up and down instead of flicking to scroll with your finger.
The Qwerty keyboard is very sensitive and is not always accurate unless you have small fingers. The phone does have a user dictionary that saves your made up words so it will predict them on the next text which is a plus. The downside is that you have to look at the screen while typing or the text or email message will be all goofed up, so NO TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!

I'm with AT&T and had no problems with setting up the internet connections. The opera browser is amazing. Since there is no 3G it does take a some time to load images on pages. The double tap zoom in is a great feature or by dragging up and down on the right side to zoom in and out.

The phone is a really awesome device but some minor goofs and bugs that I'm sure samsung will have an update for.

Internal storage is great. Drag and drop Mp3 and pictures no problem with the Activesync that comes with the phone.

there are four external buttons that can be programed as short cuts or you can set them up on the home screen. The phone comes with a very small selection of sounds and ring tones.

A neat app that comes with the phone is the "Smart Reader".
This app will take a picture of a business card and will read the information off the card to put the name, address, phone, & email as a contact record so you do now have to type all the persons info in. It also can scan documents. Neat feature...

The phone is neat and turns heads when I whip it out and start touching away at it. I do wish the Earpieces did not have to use the samsung adapter and just a regular 1/8 jack into the phone.

If you're thinking about buying, I would wait a couple months, because the word is that AT&T is going to be picked up this phone and will probally be alot cheaper.

flip, 04 Sep 2008when playing the music. can you use the loud speaker? yes you can, and in response to all who ask questions like "can it do this" etc, the answer is yes, and if it cant' there is or soon will be software out there to make it able to! Lol, This is its big strong point, very powerful and flexible due to it being a PDA!

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2008i heard that it is because when your battery level is lower... moreHi, this is not true, i have just sent 4 texts and recieved 2 and my battery is critically low! lol, trying to run it right down to prime the battery.

I must say to all out there who plan to buy this!
This is a nice piece of kit but it is a Windows PDA device, this means it will take you a lot of adjusting to get used to a totally different way of doing things.

Texting is one area i am personnally having difficulty with, hard to explain the problems it here but its more a case of a learning curve than a major problem.

With regards to music folks, if you drag all your vibe into windows media player and sync wth that it will put data on the storage and works a lot better.

Because its a pda set everything on your pc then transfer over to phone, causes a lot less problems than trying to put stuff in files and move things around. lol

                                Hope this helps

How do you do a soft reset?
also when using activescan the way to add music is to click explore right?
and if so where should i put the file so when i play the music it doesn't say this file is corrupted?

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2008Hi, my Omnia tends to lose the telephone operator signal, e... moreWith regards to your encounter on signal strength, I've got mine to share too - not just on one particular model but on all the PDA phones I've owned before since 2002 until now and I'm still using a PDA phone. (Too bad, can't live without it after so many years - it's so useful) I carry 2 phones nowadays, a Motorola V8 and an Asus P735 3G model. All my calls are made via Motorola and the Asus is used for solely PDA functions, appointments, reminders, notes, tasks & so on... and as my secondary backup phone. To carry out a test on signal strength stability, you'll need a regular phone (Mot, SE, Nokia) and your i900 (PDA phone). Hold them together at a location where phone signal is weak say 1 - 2 bars and stand stationary for couple of minutes. Observe the differences between these 2 phones on their signal indications. My experience on O2, Dopod, HP & Asus were similar, The signal indications were either slightly lower than a regular mobile phone or fluctuated 1 bar lower and back showing instability of signal. You'll need patience, as that won't happen immediately, just observe for couple of minutes. If you don't compare you won't notice the difference at all. Spoken to an owner of a PDA retail shop (a friend), told him about my finding, he agreed on the same point too - after so many years selling the machine to me.

Samsung has successfully marketed their i900 as "OMNIA", getting away from "PDA" phone, that's a clever marketing strategy. The truth is the i900 is a Window based PDA phone with good specs but let's just see the feedback from the actual users here after 4 to 6 months from now then we can conclude on its stability factor as have happened to many other newly launched PDA phones that failed on this issue in the past.
I'm interested to get one if it passes this test.
