style, 15 Aug 2008thx lance. just one more thing....where did u download Garm... moreas long as i know of, the garmin XT is NOT downloadable from anywhere. do u actually have the XT miniSD card or something else? i ordered mine from the garmin US official website. i got my XT this morning in a small box with only a statement and a little miniSD card box inside(2 adapters included). just insert it in to ur phone's memory card slot and turn the phone back on,then it'll show up on the screen and all u need to do is just press yes and u r ready to go. where r u from? if u r not in US then u should call Garmin directly, coz i dont know nothing about garmin's products outside of US. good luck

my omnia died while it was downloading the third file for an upgrade. it was lifeless -- no amount of prodding, battery reinsertion or pressing of the power button worked. resigned, i brought it to the singapore samsung service center. after a substantial amount of waiting, even though i was third in line, i was told it needed to be taken in to resolve the problem + the upgrade. i agreed.
what i thought was really surprising was that the service staff actually did not know that software upgrades can be done online. but i digress. anyway , i was told that it would be ready for collection after three working days (and they work on weekends), but 6 days later, i still have not heard from samsung. disappointing. i sure wish their service standards were one of 'underpromise, overdeliver' like the way omnia did.
the 'loss' of omnia prompted me to look around of a replacement. a bit of backdrop: in the last year i go thru the following phones (at least the most prominent ones, in this order): 6120, N95, N95 8 gb, E90, 5310, N81, N82 then Omnia. N95 was a joy to use but i m not too crazy about sliders. crucially its battery life sucked.
after much research and evaluation, i realise that the Nokia N95 still has a huge following (unlike many other phones which just come and go). so i decided to sell my N82 and topped up $180 to get a brandnew N95. at first i was somewhat disappointed. i tot i had read that n95 now had auto screen rotation. turned out i was wrong -- only the 8gb version does. but to my delight, the battery life of n95 *now* is terrific. i could go thru a day of mild usage with still FULL BARS of power left -- reminiscent of E90. the buttons are terrific, voice clarity excellent and the speakers are outstanding too!

style, 14 Aug 2008where did u get Garmin XT from and how do u install it? i t... moreoh, and one more thing. u mentioned about that u couldnt connect to the server. i'm not sure what u meant, but with garmin XT,even if u dont have network signal from ur cell phone company,it still works fine, as long as u dont switch to fly mode on ur phone. if u were talking about th garmin online service that u tried to use from ur phone, my advise is dont even bother that, just get off the highway and it'll reroute u anyway.just like the regular in-car GPS. good luck pal

style, 14 Aug 2008where did u get Garmin XT from and how do u install it? i t... morewell,i didnt do much with the Garmin XT. here is what i did: turn off the phone, open up the battery cover, insert card, turn the phone back on, and a messege appeared on the screen asking if u wanna install the garmin or not, click yes, then garmin installed by itself. after that, just open it from the program list and there u go. i didnt even do anything from the setting menu. it automatically detect ur phone's GPS reviever. soon as i started using it, everything is there, even the voice prompt. one more thing, if u switch the phone to fly mode, garmin will shut GPS function off. still going thru all the settings and tools now,but i went out for couple of hours just to try it out.i'm loving it,very accurate and easy to use, just like the in-car Nav.
