The whole 3G and 4G thing is a total mess, for example the UK is only just about to turn 4G but not every mobile phone network will support it and even the ones that do will not be able to use every frequency, meaning some 4G phone users will not actually be able to use their phone on 4G!

Anthony, 07 Oct 2012dude, i did give you a link to the 4.0.4 ROM and i admitted... moreyeah i did already and no difference.. just flashed it back to 4.0.4 as i have gotten 2 OTA updates so i know everything is legit and working properly
over itttttttttt
hopefully as my phones unlocked now i shouldn't have to wait as long for the ota JB update but at least i will know everything's working the way it should be

we have the same android version 4.0.4..the only... moreSee... both you and your friend have 4.0.4 ROMs that is why you didn’t get any update. His/her phone may have had an older ROM and it was upgraded to 4.0.4.
as for the baseband version difference, it just means you 2 didn’t get your phones from the same region, so there may even have different default app installed.
If you don’t mind doing manual updates like i do, you can use “Odin” for upgrading your ROM. If you want to use the auto update way for getting your ROMs, then you have to keep using kies.
And just put both names; don’t think you want me calling you Freefaller :)
@(name) means the comment is for that name. And not really for the name in the main title or user ID.

just flash with it, then flash the 4.1.1. and your error will be gone. thats the only thing that freefaller and i did that you have not done as yet.
please remember the to read the 2 notes at the bottom of the page for the 4.0.4 download. about what to do if the phone does not want to fully boot after. because that did happen to me.

I got that exact message when I flashed my phone with the first jellybean rom. the one when i said my camera was not working and wash looking for links to put back my provider ROM.
And then when I flashed it with the 4.0.4 ROM you gave the link to, it was fixed and was saying
“This is the latest firmware”
So i'm thinking that some of the ROMs that claim to be official are either (official beta test) or really cooked ROMs

If you already have both 4.1.1. & the 4.0.4. rom unziped (that you downloaded for yourself by your friend) from the links both Freefaller & I are using.
Why don't you just copy that to your SD and use it when helping other friends instead of downloading from scratch ever time?

even on the android geeks site there are others stating they can no longer update via kies
ive spent most of today reinstalling my OS, drivers for my pc and yes still comes up with error unzipping and not only on my comp, i did manage to unzip it properly once on another friends comp but again same issues ie. not being able to update via kies..
so i dont have any idea why im surely not making things up lol

Im using the galaxy s3 since 3 months now and its a really amazing phone and stands out above all but occasionally i have some lags and the apps force closes alone. This mostly happens when playing high graphic games such as FIFA 12 and gta3 at least once or twice a week so is there a fix for that ???? and no the RAM is empty most of the times

me too it always shows that i have the latest firmware but the application itself keeps on updating..do i really need to rely on samsung kies in terms of upgrading my phone software?? i bought my phone in dubai duty free but im here in yemen now using my simcard here..

It's not important to the average user. 'Baseband version' just denotes which region e.g. Europe, Asia, US etc. you live in.

I have gone to the trouble of downloading Kies (77.4 Mb! Just to connect your phone to a PC... That's disgraceful. No wonder real power users avoid it), onto an old laptop I don't use anymore. (I'm not ruining my PC with that Bloatware).
Anyway, when I connected my phone to Kies I get the following....
This is the latest firmware
and underneath it shows:
Current firmware version PDA:LIB/PHONE:LIB/CSC:LI1 (XEO)
Latest firmware edition PDA:LIB/PHONE:LIB/CSC:LI1 (XEO)
It doesn't say anything about 'no longer able to update using kies',and shouldn't; because if you have flashed your phone correctly you will have the Official Samsung Firmware on your phone which is always upgradable. Anyway, I don't believe you get that message, it doesn't make sense. It's getting to the point where I think you are making this up as you go along.
Flashing any of the Galaxy range of phones with Odin is quick and painless. I've done it so many times now I can flash a phone in less than 10 minutes. That's not boasting, I'm just pointing out how quick and easy it is. I have successfully flashed at least a dozen phones, (i9000 and i9300), without any of the problems you claimed to have had.

we have the same android version 4.0.4..the only difference is his baseband version and build number which is I9300XXLFB and IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB, mine are I9300XXLE8 for baseband version and IMM76D.I9300XXLE9...why is it like this :(
