I noted that you advised deleting Samsung Link and Samsung Push. When I try to delete them both I get a warning that data will be deleted so being cautious I cancel the deletion. Are you able to explain what each one does or doesn't do. In other words why you consider they are not necessary to keep. Also if you feel there are other apps which are not necessary I'd love to hear also. Sorry but I am obviously not very technical but am always willing to learn.
Shabham on an entirely different note I have been following your advices for a long time and am full of admiration for your technical know-how and the patience and willingness with which you are prepared to share with others. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your eagerness to help.

guys- s4- 442 -update ota last week - battery life reduced dramtically - some overheating which was not there before update .. I am allegedly supposedly HIGH TECH in my own science - but like most mobiles/cellphones users worldwide - DONOT do root/unroot /play games .. my own cell has to be on standby 24/7--112 . samsung service center says GOOGLE SAMSUNG working fast on 443 fix update -shall be soon ota /kies .. soon ? how soon? btw- headache could just be a headache or life threatening brain bleeding - DONOT SELF DIAGNOSE .. get to samsung service center .. telephone consultation =could be this ..could be that ==dangerous most of times .. and "DRS" SAURAB GHOSH N LIKES -PLEASE LEARN TO BE POLITE N SCIENTIFIC -DONOT HOP HOP UP DOWN LIKE A YOYO - PARDON THE EXPRESSION .. GSM ARENA -we have seen several nonstop comments from mr saurab ghosh -from kolkatta- india -as he says - rude sadly ..

kn, 13 Mar 2014the ring tone is very low. How to increase itsys/etc/default_gain.conf. Increase the speaker phone dB. Try at small steps.
Forget everything if you are not rooted.

Anyway, it's unbearable indeed. Besides that issue persists on all the S4 I have seen so far, and I have seen quite a few.
My screen on time is 4 hours, your's is 5, good, have you given a thought that the brightness could have some impact on this? I use +3, which is heavily bright. Most people use Auto, so they will get more screen on time anyway. I don't care about battery life, so it doesn't matter for me anyway.
If your S4 doesn't really heat then you have some 'special' unit dude, take care of it :)

It's not even warm. Let alone unbearable. I don't know what's going around with your piece but that's surely not normal. Yes, factory reset has to do with it. I think the firmware doesn't adjust properly when you don't do it. I can't think of a proper reason for this. One possible reason is the different loading of apps on diff. O.S. . Anyways, when I updated to 4.4 , my screen-on time reduced to 3 hrs and the phone too started to heat. These issues are interlinked. As the battery is draining, the energy is getting converted to heat. I did a factory reset and now my on screen time is again 5.5 hours and the phone is never even warm even after watching HD movies with sync and data on . Your on-screen time is 4 hrs. That may be the reason. As that's low.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2014has the upgrade improved performance???Yes, overall the performance will seem to be smoother than Jelly Bean, but there are some problems with KitKat. Like when you scroll through email list, with 'message preview' (or whatever it is called on your email app) on, it will lag like hell. You need to turn off message preview to sort the issue out, which is a bad thing.
Anyway, I do believe a future upgrade might solve the issue.
PS: However if I had the option I would go back to JB to be honest, cause there is no more custom kernel available for KitKat ROMs. I am just rooted with stock kernel :( So I am missing options like speaker amplification, LED light intensity and some display related tweaks which was available on Adam kernel for Jelly Bean :| Going back is not possible though, cause with KitKat the new bootloader is being flashed, and you won't be able to go back to JB! However someone said it is possible with the help of PIT file, lets see...I will go back if I can.

Cause it has been mentioned many times that if you don't get the OTA 4.4.2 update then download the full ROM form www.sammobile.com, and flash that ROM via Odin. It's a five minutes process.
Please read more, ask less :)

TouchWiz launcher is nice, but lacks customization. I for one am not finding the need anything beyond Nova Prime.

After a call around 15-20 minutes the earpiece becomes so hot that it's impossible to even hold it next to my ear, hot as hell. Let alone playing games for long sessions!
It was there on 4.3, and it is here on 4.4.2 :|
If your S4 is as cold as a cucumber then you might wanna contact Samsung, cause there's no S4 out there which doesn't have the overheating issue.
Also, Factory Reset and all those wiping thing has absolutely nothing to do with the overheating issue :|

Shak, 18 Mar 2014Hows the battery life of s4?Depends on your usage. For me, I have to charge it once every day, sometimes when I use it heavily, twice.
Screen on time is the thing you should look for and one full charge provides around 4 hours display on time. Now how you are gonna use that 4 hours is up to you.

AnonD-89109, 19 Mar 2014S4 (i9500) has overheating issue. Whoever says it doesn't e... moreoh really. I have it. My phone is always as cool as cucomber. And I live in india. Just backup your data, do a factory reset, restore data and wait for 4-5 days. You'll also feel the same. I did it on 3 s4 s. It worked on all of them.
I also agree that earlier I too had overheating issue in the days when i had 4.2.2 . Now the temp doesn't even cross 42.
