chez, see the comment a little further down about turning off the front screen, that might help your battery life?

i got samsung s500i after been coaxed into by o2 who said the d600 (which i requested) wasnt available . i charged the phone up for 16 hrs before i switched it on 1st time. switched it on and the battery lasted only 8 hrs and 5 hrs of that were on standby! i hadnt even used bluetooth or anything just put some aac and mp3 files on. this phone looks good and has a good camera and a really good memory with transflash memory slot but unfortunately for me i need a better battery and im outdoors for 10-11 hrs everyday so i will be sending it back to o2 tomorrow .

ste: i had the same problem when i transferred pictures on to the s500i when using my old sim - the pictures are linked to whichever sim is in the phone at the time they are saved. you have two options
1. use the sim from your old phone whenever you want to use the pictures
2. transfer the pictures to you computer and send them you you phone using the samsung software

ben: to change your APN you need to go to settings and i mode settings and change it to either pay and go or postpay depending which you are. all the prepay tariffs are now imode compatible so that should not need changing

its ok i found out how to change the front screen so the display goes off. it was permenantly alight and drained it.

slightly disapointed because of battery life. anyone give me a link for new higher copacity battery?

I've had this phone for around a week, and I'm happy with it - the best thing is the looks.

Here's the secret to setting mp3s as ringtones, and you don't need nero or itunes.
1.Just load up the Samsung PC studio Sound Editor
2.Load up your mp3, at this point it would probably be best to edit it, so you get the exact sound you're after - use copy and paste to repeat it if you want
3.Then select "To Phone"
4.Change the file type from *.mp3 to *.acc
5.Change Setting from default to user setting
6.This bit is all about making the file smaller, so change it from stereo to mono,
44100 hz to 8000 hz, and the bit rate to 96 (or whatever works for you)
7.Select ok - the file will then be converted
8.Then in search folder, select the "Music" folder - and it's there!
9.Access the phone, and go to settings, sound settings and incoming call
10.Here comes the science bit - highlight and select ringtone, select music, highlight your ringtone, select options, select 'select', and robert's your father's brother!
There is no other way to make an acc file your ringtone... but I haven't bothered to
try other formats...
Finally, the manual's rubbish - if it were any good, half the messages on this site wouldn't be here!

Ash: Thanks for replying, but I bought it sim free offline,because the shop told me that I could use my old sim card and it would work no problem (which it does) but I just can't get the i-mode facilities, but now I know why. Is there any chance that you know how I would go about getting on an i-mode tarrif, pay as you go if possible? If anyone else can help that would be great too.

Hey, am seriously thinking about getting this phone, but after reading quite a few reviews I am slightly concerned about the battery life, is i worth me getting this phone? Is the battery life very bad for everyone? Please e-mail me with help if you can! Would be much apprecited.

Sounds like you have not been moved onto a compatible i-mode tariff yet. Is this a new deal or an upgrade? I got mine on an upgrade and they forgot to switch me to the i-mode version of my tariff, and I was getting the same message you are.

HI, I tried to connect to the internet and the i-mode function, but both times it says 'Invalid APN'. Can anyone help me by explaining what the APN is, and how I can change it?

how do i set mp3s as ringtones, it will not let me change ones my freinds sent me as ring tones, i have tryed using shorter ones but it still dont work help me plz.

just about to buy a new phone and i've got a choice between this and a samsung z320i. i prefer the s500i because it has an expandable memory, but i have heard bad things about it, like the i-mode not working. can any1 point me in the right direction for which one to get?email me please Thanks in advance

I'm thinking about getting one of these on o2 UK,its just for a change from Windows Smartphones and Orange UK ( SPV !! )and I was wondering :
1 - Can I use PICSEL as a pdf or txt ebook reader ?
2 - Should I just get the i300 Smartphone instead ?
I am aware that both of the mobiles have battery issues,but as a Smartphone user I am used to that.

Just purchased this phone a week ago and still cant get it to receive mms, have no trouble sending mms. have been in contact with o2 to no avail. has anyone any ideas as to what I need to do. Thanks.
