The screen is made of hardened glass so it is very scratch resistant. It works superbly with an 8GB Sandisk. Mini Opera works great and the browsing speed is superb here in Greece where 3G-HSDPA speeds are at 7.2Mbps. Video-calling also works fine even though I seldomly use it because I think tht it invades my privacy.

THIS PHONE IS awsome,i was very much confused,which phone i should ,two weeks back.exploring each nd every option. around 12k budget nd touchscreen segment its a very good option.samsung star 3g(5603)have gesture control(apple i phone feature), smile recognization, superiorsound quality,responsive touch screen(no need 4 stylish), led flash,3G , only limitation is low battery back up.....but not bad at all.Overall a very good nd worthful buy....

The phone DOES NOT have A-GPS, that means it does not have a built-in GPS receiver. It can only give a rough estimate of where you are (using Google Maps and internet connection) based on which network antenna you are using.
Other than that, it is a very nice phone, with a big and VERY bright screen, despite the old-fashioned 240X320 resolution. The photos are nice and the led-flash is surprisingly bright. The battery is also very potent (3 days with medium usage). What is surprising is that the signal is very good which is NOT typical of Samsung. The quality of the materials is excellent which IS typical of Samsung. The earpice and the external speaker are also loud, way above average. The screen responsivenessnis very good since it is a capacitative screen (like iPhone and Arena) and not resistive (like 5800 and Renoir). 3G - the latest gimmic from service providers and mobile manufactures
--They claim we can have the video call from our phones.
--we should be able to use our phone like a modem to connect to pc at 7mbps like broadband connection.
Other than these two advantages I dont see something more, if you are interested in any of the above you will need 3G enabled phone and network.
In india , they give 140kbps of EDGE data connection and on average we get 40kbps speed ie 4kb/second.
so comparing with EDGE data connection , 3g should to the least provide 1Mb/second.
But dono how 3g works out in reality, if any one use your 3g mobile like broadband modem & video call post your experience.

guys there is no gps in this phone, we have only google maps.
it works with the help gprs connection only and it is not AGPS.

In the widgets bar , you can find the widget for google as g , just drag to the mainscreen .
In this widget you have gmail and google maps.
Click on google maps, it requires gprs connection to work.
This is for 5603 asian version not sure about the options for 5600 version.

I would not suggest you to go for one using stylus becos using stylus means small screen so you need shrink your eyes for everything.
The picture quality was amazing in the phone and when viewd from phone it is really tempting to take good snaps, I had not transfered them to PC yet.
lighting conditions are important, under poor light the quality of pictures were bad.
I bought it last friday only, I watched battery for two days only, where in i had taken abt hundred snaps few with flash.
Normally the battery life is good when compared to other phones, I had been using asus p320 windows mobile for which battery drains out like anything.
I typically charge every second day , just attending calls & messaging alone should last for 3 days atleast.

Thus s5603 3g has stylus and how is the battery backup if we keep talking. Thus the battery lasts for atleast 2 days. How much contacts can we store and whether it has the internal contacts like home, other within the same contacts, etc. How is the performance of camera and the quality of the picture.

seems you had confused with star and star 3g models.

GT S5603:-) Proud to be one of the owner of the phone, everything works on touch only.
advantages
--responsive touch screen - no need for stylus at all
--16M resolution makses us take camera shots
--A-GPS [only google map is present ]
--good usefull widgets - facebook,goodlemap,gmail,favorite 5 contacts ,profile shortcut
--good camera
--sound of the phone - amazing loudness
--good battery backup - lasts for 2days inspite several camera shots and movies playback.
disadvantages:
--lack of qwerty keypad atleast for sms could have been good
--idoitic phonebook - once entered difficult to find contacts from a big list and not easy reachable
--fm radio - no internal fm antenna requires of old style wired headset.
--Browser is stupid - no hardware button for selecting the links or for scrolling up& down , need to use fingers only for scrolling. When I press volume button the webpage zooms in and out.
--back button. a D-pad instead of centre back button could have helped a lot.
Playing with contacts is very difficult.
There is no interpretation of names from keypad, every time we need to open the phonebook and type the name fully.
From keypad it recognises the names after you type the first 5 digits of the phonenumber .
This makes sending SMS or calling immediately very very difficult.
here's where we feel the importance of qwerty keypad.
We have alternatives like favorite 5 contacts widget and call history on call button.
But searching for contacts from phonebook is very very difficult.
I was surprised that this phone has google map , acting like A-GPS when i was interior part of tamilnadu,I clicked with google map widget accidentally and it showed me where I was in the map. Seems it needs gprs connection to work.
If samsung is clever , they should introduce a widget for qwerty keypad else this model is going to loose its ease of working.
Movie clarity was very very good, but we need to convert the ordinary movies file to the mobile format to work , not like windows mobile which plays anything.
not sure why they show such importance for wheather widgets which we never use at all in india.
Overall a touch phone with what you need alone.
