I would suggest to stay away. Bloatware included with the phone will take all of its 1GB space within a month, so no updates can be downloaded anymore, and no apps installed. Phone is slow as hell. Battery life is about 10h of light usage with 3G/WIFI on, so rather standard.
The device is marketed as a 'tough phone'. It is resistant to falling, surviving falls which would break any other phone. That's about it.
The charging socket and audio jack covers had fallen off after 4 month of usage, mind you not ripped off. Just fallen off due to regular use. With those covers gone, the phone is no longer waterproof. Charging socket had to be replaced once, and it needs another replacement now, so the phone is in the drawer. When I asked it to be repaired under warranty I was told I will have to pay for shipping and repairs myself. FU Samsung.

Lou, 10 Nov 2014How do you ungimp it?I already posted how I did it:
1) you have to root it.
2) Create, lets say, 5Gb ext2 (or ext3 or ext4) partition on your SD card.
3) Install Link2SD, buy full version.
4) after installing any app, fire Link2SD, clik on app and click CREATE LINK button. Voila, app FULLY moved to SD ! Your only limit is size of that SD card and that ext2 partition.

AnonD-260841, 05 May 20141 Gb of 4 Gb is free. You can extend capacity by a MicroSD card.Due to limited / unbelievably little memory, this brand new phone does not recognize the memory card. According to what I've read, it is a common problem. How can it be sold if this is the case? Surely there has to be a solution????

I wouldn't buy it. I got the XCover S5690, can take a hit but soooo slow and after a short while the battery gave up. After a full charge it will do 13 hours on standby or 2 minutes with WIFI on... :( bad choice. What use is a strong on the outside telephone while the battery is weak???

Gor this phone to replace my broken XperiaV. This is really good phone only if you:
1) root it
2) use link2SD app THE PROPER WAY.
I tells you, this is superior phone that has been gimped out by manufactured and its up to smart user to ungimp it.

This phone is on the brink of useless. Reception is horrible (I have a Nokia E52 as a work phone on the same network for comparison), and battery life is just almost non-existent. The point of a rugged phone is to carry it to the outskirts - but here you'll run out of juice within a day or two.
Add to that that it doesn't have enough integrated storage to be able to update apps - and no feature to use the external SD for that purpose. And Samsung? I have no idea how they became market leaders when they do notoriously rejects any ask for help... Buy a S3 or newer and a shitload of batteries in stead!

I like this phone, but am a bit disappointed by their onboard memory of 4 gigs and 1 gig RAM. Can one replace that with bigger memory?

the quality of this phone is bad. this expected more from this phone. the usb cover has felt off. mask is peeling no matter that it was in the protective case. very disapointing. and after when i got upgraded an operation system, it keeps blocking, and it performs slower.
