I just got this phone a few days ago, and it looks simply amazing!I couldnt wait to peel off the protective cover to expose its shiny, metallic sleek mirror surface. This phone's a head-turner,seriously. However,i do have a few grievances.Firstly, the screen's visibility under sunlight is totally poor, and secondly the fact it has totally no games is a utter disappointment. I was looking forward to a phone with looks, functionality and fun, too. But overall,it's a worthy purchase:)

Hi Mike and Danianiela
Happy to hear that you also have a "new face" now Danianiela. Lets keep each other updated on the developments - and pray we will not have to return the phones again!
Mike as far as your questions, according to Samsung in South Africa, the have admitted that it is a factory fault and that are fully responsible for the replacement of the faces. The only reason I took my phone to Vodacare is that we do not have a Samsung Service Centre in East London.
I must say that Samsung has been very accommodating so far.
Mike why do you not try and go to the Samsung official website and contact them from there. That is how I started the process. Good luck and let me know what happens.

Mike and Karen: I got my face replaced at a Samsung Service Centre in Melbourne, so I haven't had to deal with the reseller at all. All I had to show was proof of purchase to meet the warranty criteria that I was the original owner, as the warranty will only cover the original owner. It was all really straight forward and only cost me the petrol money to get there.
As straightforward as it was though, I do not want to have to do this every couple of months so here's hoping that it is all now fixed. I'll keep you updated on its progress!

Karen:
Thanks for the reply Karen. I contacted Samsung USA, but I was told that since the phone has a non-USA IMEI number, I would need to contact the Samsung in the country where the phone was shiped from in order to use the warranty. I contacted the retailer from where I bought the phone (his in in the USA) and he said he will talk with Samsung to see what's going on. This doesn't look good. Is there any official samsung statement saying that they recognise this as a manufacture problem? Any help is appreciate.
Thanks,
Mike

Does anybody know of any EASY way to put games and applications (IE .jar and .jad) on this phone? I would be so grateful ...
Oh, and my 2c worth on the phone is that it is awesome. It has some minor problems but then again so do all phones.

I have an unlocked u700 and I would like to know if I can add sliding tones like other samsung sliders and if my u700 will support vivid text like the u600.

Hi Mike
The original Samsung Warranty is all you need. I suggest you contact whoever you bought the phone from. According to Samsung they have emailed all the outlets about the problem so they should be aware of it. If not, contact Samsung directly.
The face is replaced in a matter of an hour or so.
Hope you are successfull!

thinking to buy samsung U700 but afraid to face the same problems like others. maybe all of users here are buying an orginal set. that is why, the company treat you better. like here, there are an AP set & also original set. if we buy an AP set, i dont think they (sellers) will take serious about this problem... :-(

danianiela and Karen:
The information you've been posting is very informative. I have the same issue as well and have been trying to decide what to do. I am in the US, and bought this phone some time in July. I bought it from an independent reseller. Do I need an extra waranty to be able to get a replacement face for it? Or will the regular one that comes with Samsung do it? Where should I call? The reseller, or samsung itself? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Danianiela. I am from S.A. Vodacare is the service provider's service centre. The faces they received were also imported. My phone also looks like new ... for now. They are adament though that Samsung Nation Wide has not been able to come up with a solution and are definately using the same faces for now.
Seems like Samsung in SA and Samsung in Australia is sticking with the same story. Lets see what happens.
I agree with you that if the silver wears off again, I will be back time and time again until they fix the problem.

Hi Karen: What is Vodacare? (and what country are you in?) I spoke to Samsung Australia and they assured me that the faces they are using to replace the scratched ones are made of a different material. I actually went down and got it replaced today and it looks like new again :)
I guess we'll have to see though whether the person I spoke to was telling the truth or not. If they weren't, I will assure you I won't stop until they give me a replacement phone that doesn't scratch!!!
(my nick is danianiela btw, not J something or other)

Hi PJM6. I did have the face replaced on Friday. It is definately the exact same as the old one. I was told by Samsung too that the newer ones would be of a more improved quality, however Vodacare assured me that they are replacing it with the exact same ones. I was told by the Vodacare Technician that Samsung is looking at designing a new face similar to that of the D900i which will be of a better quality.
Promise, the is no change whatsoever.

i dont find any problems with the u700 although a bit disapointed about not being able to have a personal ringtone for the sms but apart from that it is a very good phone and i would still rate the phone to people
