Samsung will show images of its foldable phone this week, talk about its UI

Peter, 06 November 2018

Samsung will present its foldable phone at the developer conference that starts tomorrow. It hopes to get feedback from developers about the best ways for apps to handle going from a phone-sized screen to a tablet-sized one as the device unfolds.

The company’s VP of mobile communications confirmed that the user interface will be shown off at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). Another Samsung exec said that images of the device will be revealed.

But it sounds like Samsung is still working on finalizing the design so it’s unlikely that working units will be at the event. The phone, tentatively called Samsung Galaxy F, should launch early next year.

“Before we take it to the market, we want to share with developers what we’ve done so far and see what they think of it,” a Samsung official said.

As for Samsung’s traditional phones, they are still expecting an update to Android 9.0 Pie. It will bring a revamped Samsung UI and will be demoed at the SDC as well.

Press F to respect the hinge design, if it is durable and tough. Even Samsung did.
