Samsung wraps up Paris 2024 - the Olympic highlights in numbers

Yordan, 12 September 2024

Samsung has been a partner of the Olympic and Paralympic community for decades, but its participation in Paris 2024 has exceeded all expectations. Now that the games are over, Samsung has shared some of its memorable milestones.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition was used for 293 victory selfies, in which all medalists took selfies with the main cameras after the medal ceremony for their discipline. Samsung said this provided a more personal approach to the memory sportspeople created rather than having a traditional photo taken by accredited media.

We already reported that every athlete and para-athlete received the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition. Samsung shared the final tally - 17,000 units with a customized suite, eSIM with 5 GB data courtesy of Orange, Samsung Wallet with a pre-installed card for public transport, and an exclusive social media portal only for Olympians to share their memories.

Samsung also provided 15,000 Galaxy devices to staff and volunteers, including 7,100 phones, 2,500 Galaxy Tab tablets, and 5,200 Galaxy Book laptops.

Paris 2024 was the first Olympic Games at which the Athlete's parade took place outside of the stadium - on the Seine River, where athletes came on boats.

Samsung provided more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones that were installed on the boats to broadcast the opening ceremony. The devices used a private 5G network. Since the flagship is IP68-certified, the units were later used for the Marseille sailing competition.

The unique partnership between Samsung, the IOC and the Paralympic Movement allowed the company to place pop-up stores in unique locations across Paris, including Champs-Elysees, Square Marigny and Village Plaza. Over 380,000 people visited the stores during the Olympics and Paralympics.

The company also distributed 350,000 Samsung Olympic Games pins to fans and athletes. Collecting and trading pins from the Olympic games is a historical tradition that dates back to London in 1908 when host countries and delegations started designing and wearing their own pins.

Samsung's partnership deal with the Olympics is signed until 2028, meaning Samsung will be more involved at the Winter Games in Milano-Cortina 2026 and the Summer Games in Los Angeles 2028.

Training and competing hard for 4 years for a phone? Do you know that many athletes have to control their weights for many years? People love freebies, but obviously they're not what top athletes from each country aim for.

It would be really funny if most of these athletes come back for LA 2028 so that they can get a free upgrade to a Z Flip10.
