Mick, 23 Oct 2010I have had this phone about a week and bought it as a rugge... moreFurther to my previous, I have been doing some battery testing and the torch has an hour cut-off so even if it did come on accidently it would switch off after an hour :-) This phone is really growing on me. Great battery life, GPS locks on and works. Despite the small screen Google maps is useable. I have also been experimenting with TrekBuddy which enables you to load your own maps locally to the phone and the GPS will show you your position. A calibrated map will give you a GBOS grid reference as well. I have bought a 16Gb memory card and this works fine.

- LAUNCH IN PHILIPPINE

Please oh please launch this phone in the Philippines! I waited for the release of Samsung b2700 here in Philippines which has similar features to this but unfortunately they didn't. I don't want to be disappointed this time and am expecting its release here. I dont want to experience the bad feeling Ive felt when b2700 wasnt released so Samsung please release it here in PHILIPPINES. I think that this is the most useful phone ever because of the: flashlight(most useful feature ever) radio, 2mp camera, GPS (WOW), COMPASS, PEDOMETER, ALTIMETER. Don't forget the facebook and twitter apps!

I've had this for four days now and I'm very satisfied with it. It's loaded with features which even surpasses some "smart phones" :)
The only negative thing is that the battery has changed from 2000mAh to 1300mAh since the last Xcover 2G.

philippines is waiting for you samsung b2710.............i waited for b2700 before but sadly they only sold b2100 here :(( the icing on the cake is the compass, altimeter, gps, ang google maps which b2100 lacks. although im proud i still bought myself a b2100 because of its nifty features such as flashlight, radio and camera. but i honestly believe that this samsung b2710 will have been a hit here if would be sold sooner!!!!!!!!!!! don't forget the philippines!

I have had this phone about a week and bought it as a rugged phone that I could carry with me when running / trekking. In my opinion the Achilles heel of this phone is the flashlight switch. This phone will switch on in your pack, the button to activate the flashlight sits proud of the housing and all it takes is two seconds of very light pressure before the light is on draining your battery. Once on you have to click the switch again to turn it off. There does not appear to be anyway of locking this switch. So far it has switched on in my waist pack. In my opinion this is a serious design fault and I wish I had not wasted my money on it. I am now considering melting away part of the switch so that it does not sit proud!

I´ve now had the phone for 6 hours and I will try to tell you a bit about it.
Its a big leap forward in terms of software and hardware compared to the old 2700. The phone feels very solid and have great buttons.
The hardware:
- Far superior screen , higher resolution and scratch resistant glass.
- Keyboard have an excellent feel and the side buttons is have better tactile feel
- Flashlight is wider in angle and the same amount of light
- Better battery
- Camera is actually semi-useful (not expected that), although the movie feature is probably nothing that will win you and Oscar.
The software:
-The browser thats now based on WebKit
- E-mail client works with gmail (2100 was bugged in that way)
- Facebook app
- Twitter app
- Google maps that works really good
All in all a great upgrade and with the all the Internet software loaded into the phone, I honestly feel that I have no need for a "smartphone".
