When you open up[ the phone you hear a sound. Morgan doesn't like it and big james says it is because you are holding one of the side buttons when you open up the phone. Actually it makes the default sound because you have it switched on to do so. You can switch it off by going to SETTINGS>PROFILES choose the Profile you want then click OPTIONS>EDIT. Scroll down until you get to PHONE SOUNDS and click the little black button. Scroll down until you see FOLDER OPEN/CLOSE and uncheck it if you son't want it to make the sound when you open or close the phone. Make sure you save your settings. Sorry I don't know if you can change the sound to one you want but at least if you find the default one annoying you can switch it off

Am very pleased with phone especially frames around photos!!
But does anyone know how to add photos to the contacts? Can't seem to do it on the current ones nor if I start with a new one!

i had my software upgraded to Z50CDZEF8 but then my IMEI is gone. the shop who did it doesnt know how to put it back in. anyone has any idea how to do it?? cheers.

can any one advise me on my ringtones. i used mp3 music for my ringtone and its not that loud, why.. also can i only ac the message tones that r on the phone r can i av my own

I have a Samsung SGH Z500, i add mp4 movie clip into it. Work perfecly, but the problem when i try to add a file over 6MB then have error, anyone know how to add file over 6mb drop me a line, thank you.

Just to bring up this issue, which is apparent about the battery. I'm getting 2 full days usage out of it. With regards the MP3 players, I will use my IPOD or my car CD player so no need to drill it.
I don't drill the games or listen to my ringtones all day so for me the battery is fine. Yes it doesn't last as long as my old Nokia 6230 but good enough all the same

to morgan, the open/close tone doesnt actually exist, it occurs when you press one of the side buttons accidentaly whilst opening/closing the phone.
i have had many problems with this phone and have gone back to my very reliable nokia 6230. This battery doesnt last at all, especially with the mp3 player playing, there is only one speaker, on the inside of the phone which dampens the sound of the ringtone when the phone is closed, As well as a keen music person, i also enjoy my free evening and weekend texts from orange but it is impossible to keep the music player on whilst texting/using other aplications unlike on a nokia. Also is there any way of getting rid of the orange home screen or orange menu as they are very annoying?

I can't help with your problem of changing the open / close tone (although I do agree it could do with changing), but you say you have managed to change the MESSAGE alert tone to a custom one, could you tell me how you did this. I have been trying since I got the phone and just can't find a way to do it.

Does anyone know, using themes or otherwise a way to change the open/close clamshell noise. Mine has rather a twee twinkling sound and I want to replace it, e.g. with a halloween creaky door noise.
I've created a theme to use a custom message tone but so far have not found how to change the open/close sound. Thanks!

this is for(jackbhoy). you need a program called xilisoft 3gp video converter. this will convert to the right format for your phone. very easy program to use. good luck.

ok i have just got the z500 as an upgrade, but everything is cool except, the disk to give me software for my computer was faulty, so i got it from samsung, then when i try and download anything from computer to phone it wont let me it just says incorrect folder, i can upload stuff but no download, also when i try to view my uploaded files it gives me and error message, can anyone help me with this, my email is jam1888@ntlworld.com

nice phone, easy to use, was a bit concerned at first about some bad reviews, mine is on o2 and have had no problems, and alarms work fine (as long as i remember to change it to am/pm!!) over all nice phone, and the photos are good quality!

I have read here that it's possible to switch the Samsung Z500 to G2 mode only to save battery life. I would like to know HOW to do this. What do I press on the phone? I am afraid to press the wrong keys and damage my new phone. Can anyone help?
