I have read here that it's possible to switch the Samsung Z500 to G2 mode only to save battery life. I would like to know HOW to do this. What do I press on the phone? I am afraid to press the wrong keys and damage my new phone. Can anyone help?

I have just browsed through the manual [version 1.3] and it says that under Organiser/Alarm there should be something called AutoPower which enables you to have the alarm work even when the phone is switched off. I don't have such a function on mine so how do I go about have the latest version of the phone's software? Also here is another forum for the Samsung z500 http://www.krbf.co.uk/

So with regards the battery life, after charging my phone on Friday morning I turned it on around 5pm Friday evening. I left it on all weekend making calls on it and at 11.30 last night I was down to 1 bar, so for me the battery doesn't seem too bad

Hey People, just stating some quick information. If you ever find that your phone wont send or receive txt messages, or make out going calls, heres a tip:
The phone is automatically set to swap from 2G and 3G. you will find if you have problems with your phone, its because the phone is searching for a 3G signal or has a very small 3G coverage. change your setting on your phone to GSM, it will change it to only 2G but this should fix the problem. If you ever need to make a video call, u can always turn it back on.

Hi David:
I've always had my Z500 switched on 24/7 however, I think the alarm doesn't work when the phone is switched off.
The cool clock doesn't stay on is to save battery life of the phone.
The network mode of your Z500V would have been set as "automatic" which means it will automatically switch between 2G & 3G networks depending on coverage, if you switch it to 2G only, I think it will have just as good reception as your 6230.

Just got the phone and it's very nice looking. A couple of points:
1) Will the alarm not work unless the phone is on? That is very annoying
2) The cool clock on the front screen goes after a few seconds, any way of keeping it there?
3) The reception on vodafone seems quite poor whereas on my 6230 it was always maximum reception in my room

Do anyone know to to move the inbox sms to other folder? Any other folder. I can only managed to move it from phone memory to USIM memory. At least let me hide the sms in either phone/USIM. Any suggestion?
Battery Life: Have to charge every night even with moderate usage. Maybe because im in 3G network

Hi Tuck,
I'm not techie also.. this is the first time I've done it (and believe me.. I had my fingers crossed the whole time!) but I followed the procedure they've got in here: http://www.mobile-review.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=34138
and it seemed to work well. I haven't had any problems with my phone since doing that. I'm in Australia and I my original firmware had the phone was imported from ebay - it had TIM software all over it.
The firmware downloaded was from here: http://www.samsungseriez.com/portal/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=40
Right down at the bottom of the page, it's Z500REX02.2 (there seems to be newer version now 3.1, but i don't know what the "CKEH2 modification" does - does anyone know?).
