the z500 does everything and in good quality.yes the mp3 files transfered to it are low level.the best way to go round is to download a file called mp3gain and set the volume on your file higher.also i have bought 2new set of headphones(not the cheap one samsung gives you).that has improved alot the sound of the mp3 player.-email me.
also the video files are in realplayer format
you can set the video to record longer by changing it from mms format in the menu.
if you need to improve the battery life, try to keep it on charger while downloding files from pc or from o2 site from handset
buy this phone as iv found it the best phone aaround.

a great phone. battery life at the moment is a bit hazy, but it'll improve i'm sure after a few fuller charges. great phone all round.
the pc software interface is a nightmare at first but it took me the best part of the morning to work out how to just download/drag and drop files.... now i got mp3's on playlist and using them as ringtones as quick as that. usb data speed is very fast for exchanging files. setup and played with the SE k750i, w800i, v600i and apart from the slightly louder external media player speaker, bit better camera, z500 has the edge..... though i'm still on the edge about the talk time in this thing.

sorry, my previous post about using mp3 as message tones should have read :
to customise mp3 message tones use a tool such as mptrim to cut your mp3 & adjust the volume then convert it to a wav file, i use MP3&WAV Converter v1.09, then convert it to a mmf / smaf file i use Wave to SMAF Converter (WSC-MA2-SMAF) from www.smaf-yamaha.com then upload the mmf file to your phone & save in my files - ringtones.
