What do you mean by costs? Apart from the actual handset costs this phone won't be any more expensive than any other model.
The voice-rates are the same for all...
Data (3G, GPRS) won't really apply as I don't believe you will be able to setup 3G/GPRS outside of Japan. This is based on Timmy's observation that WAP/MMS settings can't be edited.
Unless the unlock/hack can enable the editing of those settings there isn't much hope. Even if you could change WAP settings, the chances of using the 904SH on 3G/GPRS overseas is very slim, as Networks may not allow the phone to access those services.

AAC & MP4
==========
AAC - Advanced AUDIO Coding
This is an Audio codec that optimizes music better than MP3. It is also referred to as MP4.
AAC is best at 128kbps. AACplus is an enhanced version of AAC and comes in two versions:
AACplus version 1 and 2.
AACplus v2 plays songs at 64kbps at the same quality than MP3 ~160kbps.
AACplus is available in most modern phones and is the audio codec used in 3GPP's video standard 3gp. The benefits are smaller file sizes (3:50 mins at 1.6 MB, 64kbps).
It's the way of the future!

3G in the USA
==============
To my knowledge, Cingular(ATT) and T-Mobile are the only UMTS 3G carriers at this stage.
The only downside is the frequency. Both carriers at this stage, to my latest knowledge, can only implement the 1900MHZ spectrum for UMTS.
Auctions for the 2100Mhz Spectrum will be auctioned some time this year.
- Without the 2100Mhz spectrum in place no SHARP phone utilize 3G as all phones are WCDMA 2100.
- SHARP phones can only operate on the GSM 1900 frequency band; possibly low reception;
- GPRS is not likely to work unless operators (Cingular, T-Mobile) permit "foreign" phones (phones not registered on their white-list) to operate on their network
- SHARP WCDMA phones are NOT compatible with CDMA2000 1x, 1xRTT or EV-DO. They will not work with Sprint-Nextel, Verizon or any other CDMA provider.
Check with your service provider if in doubt!

Hi, I have been reading the post for the 903 and 904, trying to decide to jump and buy one. I live in Chicago and the 3g works really good for Cingular in the area, now saying this, does anyone have an experience on using a 903 on a USA network. My concern is setting it up to work (ie on the internet) etc...
tks

Trust me, we're all waiting for the unlock, you're not alone. But it's not going to happen within the next couple of months I think. I've heard rumors over rumors and nothing happens.
The 903SH is voice-compatible on any GSM 1900 US network with the right USIM/SIM (not Nextel), but you may find it difficult to get GPRS up and running.
2100Mhz 3G is NOT supported ANYWHERE in the US, and hence no 3G services (video call, streaming etc.) can be used.
Hope this helps,

Re: previous post
I meant to say GSM not GST. Service tax has nothing to do with bands and frequencies...

That will greatly depend on WHERE in the USA you live... Don't expect it to come to Idaho anytime soon LOL
3G in terms of CDMA EV-DO is already utilized through Sprint. WCDMA is on it's way BUT:
1900Mhz WCDMA
So almost ANY 3G phone on here (except a FEW Nokias) will NOT work on that standard as most are 2100Mhz WCDMA. And this frequency is the world standard for UMTS.
But don't worry, to make it even more crazy, AUSTRALIA is releasing a 850Mhz WCDMA frequency for rural Australia in 2008.
I think we need a "hexa"-band (6-band) mobile to fit in all variations of WCDMA & GST. HSDPA isn't even in this equation.
LOL
