904SH, 903SH & Toshiba 904T
============================
AT THE MOMENT the 904SH will NOT work on ANY network outside of Japan. Not on Rogers, not on T-Mobile...nothing until it is unlocked.
The 903SH is more expensive because it is UNLOCKED, and though the 904SH is technically better, the price is lower because it is LOCKED and cannot be used outside Japan.
The 904T (Toshiba) is less advanced as it only has a QVGA (320x240px) screen.
The 904SH boasts a VGA (640x480px) screen, which is 4x the resolution of regular QVGA's.
The 904SH also has 2x OPTICAL zoom, which no other available phones other than the 902SH & 903SH can offer at this stage.
SHARP is technically the most advanced company on the market, only being outweighed by others through specific firmware features.

I agree with Tim :)
SHARP, even though they seem "small" in the Western world, have an excellent track record. They are the first to release cutting-edge technology in the GSM/WCDMA world.
- First 3.2 Mpx mobile phone with optical zoom
- First VGA screen on a GSM/WCDMA mobile
- First ever to use CCD cameras (GX20)
With high quality standards and SOLID flip-models, SHARP has established itself as one of the most trusted manufacturers in Asia. Vodafone KK (Softbank), DoCoMo/FOMA and Willcom stock many models in Japan, that are used widely by the population.
Vodafone firmware has been the only complaint customers have launched, and even the firmware has been improved on each model .
If you're after Quality you can't go past SHARP, you need to try one and you won't be able to go to any other manufacturer ever again.

HI Unknown
I will speak on belalf of Harlekkin...
903SH is by far the best phone, i have seen on eBay in the US that they advertise phones that will work on all networks but Version, Sprint and some other one but it deff aint Cingular.
With the Z710 from Samsung you will most proberly have huge battery problems and the LCD will just be the same as all other samsing phones, the interface will proberly be booring as bad S**T (Quote Ian Stables the juge from NZ Idol hahaha)
Overall i highly recomend ALL the sharp phones, I work in the mobile phone industry and to be honest.. We hardly ever see SHARP phones in for repair, mostly Sony Ericssons Alcatel and Hyundai
Thanks Tim

==========
Technically the best phone is: 904SH.
Superb screen, one of the best cameras with optical zoom.
The best USABLE phone is the 903SH. Same great camera, optical zoom and great features.
SAMSUNG is good I'm sure, but the camera quality MAY be less than that of SHARP.
I haven't tried it. I'm sure SAMSUNG has excellent usability though.

Hey Timmy,
The 903SH is just awesome! The firmware MUST BE v1.046 to do the PWR-TRICK.
Here are a few numbers to type in the menu:
1. UK
2. Spanish
3. other language
4...
5. Germany
6...
9. Vodacom
21. Japanese (buggy)
You can't break anything, just play with it.
Setting the 0000000 to 0111111 will enable the JAVA-Sync on your phone. You can then sync SOME games you download to your memory card. It will also allow you to enter your phone and browse the menu WITHOUT A USIM CARD.
If something does stuff up do the following:
1. Set the language back to UK for UK GPRS Settings, or to 5 for GERMAN GPRS SETTINGS, etc.
2. BACK UP all information to your miniSD. Then turn off your phone and take out your SIM CARD.
3. Press # + PWR and your phone will start re-formating. Try not to interupt the process, it will take about 20 MINUTES. After it has finished it will display the check-sum, press any key to turn off.
4. Take out the battery and remove for about 10 seconds. Now enter your USIM again. Turn back on.
5. It will take a good minute to boot up for the first time. Now you will have the GPRS-settings pre-installed for the country you chose (UK, Germany, etc.), and the phone is completely factory-reset (clean).
cheers,
Harlekkin

HI Harlekkin
can I please have some moew info about that pwr trick?
I am getting another 903SH in a few days and I want to try it! is there some big long number and u change it from 1000000 (UK) to 2000000 (JP) or something? I like the JP firmware and T9.. I hate it! I really really really like my 904SH and use it every day for music and alarm clock.. i just dont make calls or txts from it! I have my Nokia phone for that soon to be replaced with another 903 hahah, This time I have gotten the A903 (NZ VER) and I will have to flash it to the 903v (UK) in order for the power trick.. Flashing of the Sharp phones takes quite a while as I will 1st coppy the genuine 903 sharp firmware from it 1st and then flash the UK hybrid stuff.. Please can you also infom me.. i have been told that if the phone starts to stuff up you just pwr #.. will this re-lock the phone?
Thanks Tim

@Timmy : I LOVE SHARP...but
=============================
I found too many negatives than positives after I had read your message. I really don't know whether it is worth buying a phone just for it's screen and maybe Music Player. I LOVE SHARP, but I can't put up with a half-working phone.
It's not SHARP's fault, but what I hate about Japanese-only phones:
- no T9 for English
- no other foreign languages available
- hardly any or no compatibility with 3G/GPRS overseas (re-provisioning etc.)
- restricted Music/Media player
- many features not offered overseas
To me it is not important whether FeliCA and NAVI work since it's not supported anywhere on Vodafone Australia anyway. I can live without MP3 since all my Music is AAC+, though the RINGTONES I like, if possible, without the DRM solution!
Now: NO T9 or foreign languages just bother me. I can get over customized screens and games really quick. I don't need them really. Customization is secondary to me. But I do need German and English in fully T9 AT LEAST.
I do like browsing 3G with a compatible browser, which is not likely to happen with the 904SH.
The camera is still the same, and though it has anti-shake it doesn't take any better pictures than the 903SH.
I LOVE the video function on the 904SH, but not enough to seriously consider buying it.
I'm SO TORN LOL
I love the design and the hardware features, I just hate the firmware restricts!!! If SHARP doesn't release anything similar in the Western network real quick I'm starting to loose it!
I can't stand the 1.3 MPx they just brought out in the UK, what a waste of investment.
Anyway, enough of my whinging :P
I hope you understand my frustrations!!!
HONG KONG & PWR TRICK
=====================
It's 62. But the code won't work unless it is a HK firmware already. I've tried it. Cool other stuff though.
9 is Vodacom
5 is Vodafone UMTS Germany etc.
Try it!
