904SH...probably not
====================
Uhm...when the 903SH was released in Japan it was official that a European Version was planned. With this phone it is not the case (yet).
The reason we will not get this phone is that the majority of Features are not available in the EU.
We don't have:
- Felica
- VF NAVI!
- etc.
Why should they release a phone if it cannot be used with these features? Why would SHARP create a similar version without these features?
The 904 is a Felica & GPS flagship, they won't downgrade the features. So either Vodafone Group is introducing Felica & NAVI, or forget about seeing an official EU Version of this phone.

"The likely hood shes said was that we wouldnt be getting it. Unfortunatley. But this may change"
I'm not giving up hope just yet :o)
When the 903 was released there were no plans for a UK release either :

Hi guys.
I work for Vodafone n was at a product presentation with Vodafones head of device portfolio.
I myself am a dedicated Sharp follower, having prviously owned the GX30, 902 and now the 903.
I asked about the 904 n when it will be coming out in England. The likely hood shes said was that we wouldnt be getting it. Unfortunatley. But this may change.
Looked at several other devices n were asked on our opinions as to what products we should be gettin.
Nokia N80 n SonyK800 r likely models.
Watch customers come in, n be like "Wow, a 3megapixel phone", however all us Sharp lovers known theres been a great little device (i guess it aint tht little) tht does that, thts been out since August 2005 in the UK.

Hello again, just to let you know, it was the Sharp 904 that the woman from vodafone said would be released. But when i called up again today I spoke to a few different people who had no idea and just said "sorry, its not on the system" luckily one bloke in the promotions dept was quite sure the SHARP 904 WILL be released in the UK but not until nearer the end of the year,he said he also has always had shap fones and keeps up to date on the news.So for now i've ordered the 903, what a shame it has no external display though! Roll on the end of the year !!

There's hope...
================
Let me say something positive for a change.
This phone is only available in Japan, BUT so was the 802SH. There was still a UK firmware for the 802SH, though it had flaws.
It is difficult to say if the UK firmware exists, as the main features are not yet available in the UK/Germany (Felica, NAVI, etc.).
As for Australia I can't say that GPRS/3G will ever work, as the 802SH didn't work either (I called Vodafone TOO many times to be wrong).
But at least calling & SMS was fine.
I don't mind the shape of this handset. I don't care about the external screen, but a lens-cover would have been nice. They really need it. Doesn't matter how scratch-resistant the glass, cleaning fingerprints every time is driving me coo-coo.
TRICK QUESTION:
================
All you developers out there. Is it possible to fake a Device ID?
When I access the network I want to show the network that I am using a "903SH" instead of a "904SH", which will be unknown since it is not available here.
This way I can access the GPRS network as I'm faking to be a "903SH".
Sounds like an idea?

as phones go , 7 - 8 MP is gettin on the ridiculous side of things u want a digital camera buy a digital slr LOL , a phone should not weigh in excess of 100g heavier than this it aint good for pocket anyway back on topic of 904 great to see ppl importn it but who can unlock the jap version and offers support for mms grps settings? as i said earleir the external screen should be like gx30 at least if they can afford to put full VGA main screen , visually this phone isnt as stunning as 903
its very squarish and the buttons dont follow classic sharp style ie GX30 , its like a massive version of gx25 lol part from that can it play any mp3 as a tone or is it voda controlled? hopefully we can get this phone in aust and prove some ppl wrong jap fones are indeed the best available and they will continue to advance ...
cheers

i just want some comments....
i saw this phone on sale today in hong kong...the pricing for this phone is 3800hkd which is around 490usd. comparing to the unlocked 903 (450usd). this phone however is locked for japanese vodafone only. the sales told me if i use the hk vodafone, i will still be able to get incoming calls.. but this is strange...since if the phone is locked, shouldn't it only work in japan but nowhere else ????

It clearly states:
"This mobile phone will only be available in Japan."
It seems to be another "802SH", which was a tri-band, but Japan exclusive. The only way to get the 802SH/904SH at the moment is via ebay.com.

Vodafone UK
===========
Are you sure the lady spoke about SHARP and not TOSHIBA?
IF Vodafone UK is releasing FeliCA in the next few months...Maybe. If NOT:
Forget it!
There are too many reasons against its release in Europe than for it.
Sorry,

I'm due my phone upgrade, so i spoke to Vodafone UK. When I asked if the Sharp 904 was going to be released the woman said she hadn't heard of it, but she looked it up and said it IS coming out in the UK, but she was unsure when, could be months she said, but no more info than that. Anyone know when exactly?

@Chanakya Shah
Yes, the phone is also available for ~US450-500 on ebay.com.
I was considering buying it, but I want it unlocked now so I will wait.
There are no real benefits for non-japanese other than the display, and maybe a better Video-resolution (VGA?).
I don't care about the games and bio-metrics, they are great features but not worth sacrificing more vital functions like MMS & 3G services.
My 903SH works absolutely perfect on my Network and its very important to me that I have full access and perfect compatibility.
NAVI & FeliCA are not accessible for anyone outside of Japan yet, and the camera is still the same (though with minor improvements).
I shall wait over the next few months and see how we go!

@ Gloria,
I know, but then again...it doesn't really matter.
I feel really awful, but I hate saying that the se models will not come out of Japan.
905SH is WCDMA only, very unfortunate.
904SH is GSM/WCDMA, but you'll have to get a n imported version.
It sucks,

@ Mark
That's what I'm trying to explain to you all this time:
WHITE-LISTING is a network dependant feature. One network chooses to allow the 802SH access to its GPRS network, the other doesn't.
Some allow ANY mobile to access their networks, others allow only certain ones.
The REASON:
============
You cannot simply allow any device to access a network. Mobile phones & PDA's interact with a network, receive/send information and this requires processing.
Incompatible devices can disrupt or interfere negatively with the network and need to be tested and approved.
Some networks do not allow foreign mobile phones on the network because they have not been tested with local services, even though their technical specs are fine.
The 802SH was released outside of Australia, and Vodafone AU & Optus chose not to allow it on it's GPRS network.
Trust me, I tried all settings possible. Vodafone support could not do anything but tell me what I'm telling you.
Lucky you if you can use foreign mobiles on your network ;)

things to look forward to from 904.
1.face recognition
2.anti shake technology for camera
3.full web browser.
4.faster browsing(though its the same 3g network)
these infos are from other forums.i cant guarantee on these specs.so its still a better phone compared to 903 aside from those specs that are more network related.

@skater
when im using 802 i was able to access wap and mms.i used the same settings with my 903.it worked fine.ive been reading from other posts and found out that there are some who cannot wap or mms on a specific network but other users can using the same network.they only need to check the right settings.i really dont know what white list is.i just think its all in the correct settings.;)
