No you can only use the V801SH with the Japanese USIM card. It won't work with any other SIM card. Even other countries Vodafone SIM card won't work, ONLY Japanese SIM card will work with this phone.

There is one thing that in the Phillipines there is a place that unlocks the v801SA/SH, but it is still not sure if it is 100% sure. I hope there a way to unlock these nice phones from Japan and use it in the US!

As many people are trying to get the Sharp V801SH/SA to work in the US, it is still months or year away from "unlocking" these units (and may not happen). These phones are specifically made for Vodafone and are "software" locked when they come out from Sharp manufacturing plant. There are no unlocking codes or unlocking clips and SIM free firmware for these models. They can only be used with Vodafone service when roaming outside of Japan using the special "USIM" card which is exclusive to Vodafone. The unit will never accept any other SIM card other than Vodafone USIM card.

sorry nico, I guess the SD memory card size doesn't matter for the length of video recording time on this 801SA. I thought the 801SA would have the same feature as the 801SH which can record video in 30 minute segment, but completely different camera resolution and video recording length.

Ok Nico, Thought it was for the SH since this is a V801SH forum.
Didn't know that the V801SA only did few seconds of video!! Hmmmm, No wonder it's cheaper than the V801SH

if you don't have service with vodafone, you won't be able to use the camera and video section anyway, sounds like what you ran into. It's a great unit you just have to get a service with vodafone.

what are you talking about??? the V801SH can store video up to 30 minutes segment totaling 426 minutes with a blank 256MB SD card! what do you mean 46 seconds?

yes it's a good phone with a good camera. it can store a video for about a minute and 46 secs. it cost me almost 30,000yen the phone itself... not including its monthly bills. well, i think i'll have to buy a memory card reader as well just to be able to save some important video on this damn good phone... this friggin USB cable is killing me.. Grrrrr!
