Don't overlook the 'budget shooter' side - after all, the phone is advertised as such: The pictures from the c510 are real poor, grainy and usually washed out, with huge color balance issues. Only best exposure over contrasted background (and no direct sunlight) and a very still subject will get you something worth as low as a Tweet or a Facebook post; autofocus takes ages, instant, action shots are impossible - you need to focus in advance, like on digital cameras from 10 years ago. Goodies like Smile Recognition takes ages too to decide wether your friend is actually smiling or facing trouble with yesterday's curry - that's even more likely if you have to ask them to keep on smiling forever!
Night/dark shots are reported to be less than good, and I can confirm they just turn out a wash of short-range white flash or a full dark blurr of black pixels.
The 3x zoom is actually a divider on the cmos, so if you shoot at 3.2Mp, you do not have a zoom: you need to lower your resolution, and then the pictures become really, really un-usable. And since the phone's screen is quite good, you'll notice it quite immediately.

With a phone that barely makes a decent picture at only the highest resolution, the bundled 'correcting' softwares are pretty useless, and more so that there isn't a resizing feature to allow you to spare your friends checking on a 600ko grainy pic that could weight 50 perfectly well (if not 5) - dataplan-wise, savetheplanet-wise, webspeed-wise, this is a shame.

Everything 3G/Connectivity is real great, design is on the flashy side of Girly Cool in white/red; interface can be less than intuitive though with 'applications' residing in the, guess what? ...Organiser folder! The Tilt sensor works not with every app, or just does not depending on where you are looking at your pictures from.

Facebook is reportedly included, but that depends on country/operator, so check it out before buying because it is not a simple Java download, this is something straight from the factory - you have it or you don't. And of course I don't. The official Sony-Ericsson .cz website reports this app to be full of bugs anyway; I hacked mine into it and you can't upload a picture, only post/follow text feeds.

All-in-all, a huge deception that was intended to be the latest in social blogging tool as a present for my very connected daughter A cool shooter to share her teenager life on Facebook. We got nothing of that, and boy, she worked hard at school to deserve it!

i expected better. but i guess the camera performance of a phone all boils down to the camera sensor/module used.

Cyber-Shot under dog, 05 May 2009Well even the now aging k800i cyber-shot can beat the crap ... moreAny phone that has Xenon in has to be quite big they cant be as slim as this phone cos of capacitors that power a flash.

        Its a good phone.

Before i bought this phone, i used k750i, so i was thinking the cam features. specially the flash would be same, but then, its later i realized it was not so.

That meant I had to forget how i used the k750i and start afresh. The flash is good for close night time pics.

As for night time, all cameras, need proper light, if there is insufficient light, the pic is bound to be bad. I have no complaints about the phone.

A person has to use the phone for 1 whole day, read the manual properly and most importantly, forget abt all the phones used in order to enjoy this phone

Well even the now aging k800i cyber-shot can beat the crap out of this in terms of picture quality. No Xenon Flash?? What's a Cyber-shot without a Xenon, even though it's only a ****ing camera phone, they should try inserting a xenon one, rather than some little cruddy flash led,Sony Ericsson should must learn that all Cyber-shot phones must be equipped with Xenon, just like Walkman phones equipped with their Good for music Headphones, a 3.5mm adapter, even some of the latest low range walkmans are now equipped with shaker and the SensMe function (Just like sony's mp3 line up).As for Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot,they should equipped it with a better flash, and hey who needs face detection or smile shutter, when a dark room ruins all the faces right? I have'nt even seen a Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera equipped with LED's.
Even though it's a phone it's still a cyber-shot and a cyber-shot should promise great imaging capabilities whether it's night or day just as what the k800i prove back at those days.

They should try putting low to mid range cyber-shot phones with Xenon, even though it isn't that high end.It should promise great imaging capabilities no matter what the condition is.LED flash isn't enough for a camera phone,do you guys agree?

I bought it today and i am not really satisfied with its camera clarity in low lights... I had used nokia 5610 xprs music and it had great camera clarity even in low lights.. the clarity of C510 is good in daylight...

Got it over the weekend, the Radiation Black version, very pretty, except for the blue stripe on the sides, kinda put me off. Nyways, great phone, good build quality. I recommend it. Just around P10,500 (it can be lower or higher, just ask around) at authorized SE dealers here in the Philippines.
