haha shame on sony erricson getting the camera from samsung then bragging about cybershot.

No offense but nokia is the only true mobile company out there.

Geometry 101 For a P, 27 May 2008I could not resist :) Original message: Since I have... moreWell done...I was worried you wouldn't find the answer. Sorry I didn't mean to keep you busy for the past 3 days though but I guess it was a good brain exercise! BTW I don't have a PhD, I just said that to see if someone would dare to challenge my gut feel...Basically all I did is compare the screens visually (not rocket science) as I have a life and don't want to waste it drawing screens and measuring them. I could have done better, I admit it! But congrats again, you must be proud!

People!!! Today I played with the C902 (prototype version) and I just loved it. It's unbelievably thin, very good build quality and the slide up lens is just WOW (it ads a lot to the phone style). I didn't like the keys though (hard to press and not well fitted), but the guy said that the final version would be much better. Usually, in the prototypes they revise these things last (same goes for the camera). The accelerometer is quite impressive when you play Need for Speed and the themes are nice too...No doubt this phone will be a hit.

Does anyone see potential issues outside of the screen size?.. software, durability, other?..

Since I have a PhD in Statistics and Quantitative Physics I thought I could clarify the 2" vs. 2.4" screen problem. In a rectangular shaped screen (like a mobile phone) a 20% diagonal increase will lead to approximately 1/3 overall size increase (roughly 33% and not 40% since the sides will not proportionnaly increase by the same percentage but by 16.67%). Hope that helps!

            @ myQc
            Give your PhD back!

A have calculated and I think I can say with pretty good accuracy that the screen area increase is over 40%!

1: The ratio of length (b) and width (a) of the screen: about 1.32
(you get it by measuring a nice big picture)

2: Assume a 2˝ diagonal screen with the same ratio - calculate its area: 1.93 (inch2)

3: Assume a 2.4˝ screen (20% increase - similar rectangular) with the same ratio - calculate its area: 2.77 (inch2)

4: Compare - it is over 43% increase!

You do not need a PhD for this :)

A caveman can do it :) or at least a few Greeks over 2500 years ago.

P.S. : What school is giving away PhDs in Statistics and Quantitative Physics - please let us know ! Seriously! :)

              @ myQc

It is nice to see someone with an education here :)

I made that estimate of 40% screen area increase between 2˝and 2.4˝˝.

It was only an estimate without any measurements.

I do not know the ratio of length and width of the screen, I just estimated them.

              (obviously, it can be measured)

Your result is 33% - I guess you did measure the screen length and width.

Now, everyone can decide for themselves whether 33% larger area significant or not.

For me, it is very significant!

I don't know what I want anymore, no phone has the feature combination I want!

The C902 doesn't have a Xenon Flash which sucks! So I might as well go for the G900, since it has more features e.g touch screen and it's camera wont be much worse than the C902.

But... oh wait, the idiots didn't add HSDPA to the G900. So no matter whta I choose, there is a trade off! Aargh!!!

I want to buy a new phone and I'm considering SonyEricsson because my Nokia N80's battery life is absolutely crap.

But when I go to SonyEricsson.com and compare the C902 with the K850i, it seems that the C902 DOESN'T HAVE A XENON FLASH, and it also DOESN'T HAVE VIDEO-CALL.

Can this be a mistake on the website?

No need to flash your e-peens about with all this talk of "PhD" and "quantitative physics" and all these calculations. Congradulations, you went to university and now feel the need to throw your oh so smartness about on a phone site.

ANYhoo it appears to be a great camera phone, as are most of SE's cybershots. But I guess we will see when it comes out.

reviews at the moment that the phone hasn't been released yet should not be taken very seriously.
it wouldnt be named Cyber-shot if its no good for Pictures.

Talking about the C902 now, I think it will be a nice Cybershot that will revive the brand. If the pic quality is good I am getting one.
