    a) The reception is, I would say 9 out of 10. There are better handsets on the market, but this phone beats plenty of more expensive handsets. The transmission depends not only on the K300 but also on the base stations used by the operators and the receiving handset (and its reception!). Since we're discusing GSM it's digital - either very good or split in many parts - zero or one. The transmission from the K300 to the nearest base station is very good. The other factors actually do not depend on the K300 phone.

    b) One selects the file one wants to send, click "more" (right button under screen), first alternative is "send". Click "send". Third alternative is "Via Infrared". Make sure the K300 IR Port points towards the other IR port. The computer will demand permission to get the file sent. It's quite intuitive.

    c) To be able to check the internet by waping and using GPRS, one has to configure the phone. This must be done via internet with you having the phone on in your hand. You can either go to the SE site (www.sonyericsson.com/support) or your operator site. My own experience is that it is easier to do it via the SE site. You will be sent a configuration SMS which you just have to click "OK" and the work is done. To be extra sure, restart the phone (just like with a computer when you put in a new program).

      Dear Colnagoguy,
I am planning to buy the K300i. Seeing your impressive expertise, please tell me:
      a) How good is its reception? And is its transmission good for the party receiving the call
      b) How to use the IR Port (assuming its properly configured at both pc and the k300i)?
      c) For internet GPRS, does one have to get configuration done by registering with SE and receiving SMS or it can be done by individual himself or done oneself by getting settings from the service provider?

Thanks and try to give me copy of your reply at naqvi100@gmail.com in addition to posting it on the SE forum.

Well I went there & tried that thing to restrict outgoing calls but couldn't succeed. I mean it asks me for a password which I don't have. Although I had bought this mobile brand new.
Can u tell me a way to restrict the outgoing calls , or a way to get that password ?

                Reg blurry photos -
You have to keep the phone perfectly still while you take the picture. The picture is actually taken while you hear the click, so don't be too quick and think the picture is taken as soon as you hear the click. You have to continue and hold the phone still a second more after the "click" is heard.

                Reg screen -
if you want a nicer display I recommend K500i and others which have a TFT screen. The phone is not aimed at people who are used to TFT technology; more to people who have not had a camera phone before and probably this is also their first phone with a colour display.

                          Hi,
Thanks for the trick. I had bought the mobile pin-packed new , so I don't know its password.
However, I went to CHANGE PASSWORD & their entered a password of my own . but it gave me an error like " CHANGE PASSWORD COMMAND ERROR " so what does this mean ?

                            Hi Matt,

The K300a works in Europe on the 1800/1900 bands. If you will work in the UK in larger cities you can use the K300a. But be prepared that on roads between cities etc you might get cut off. But, this is normal behaviour in the US, isn't it? ;o)

K300a and K300i/c differ in that K300a also uses the GSM 850 band while the K300i/c uses the GSM 900 band instead.

The 1800 and 1900 bands are mainly used by operators in cities and highly populated areas where they can benefit of the use of the higher bands (higher number of cells/base station).

The lower bands (850 and 900) have better coverage but one runs the risk of getting cut off in cities due to lack of free cells. The phone automatically jumps to the the best bands.

The same thing also works the other way around with the K300i in the USA. I have used it extensively in the US on business trips.

                            Cheers/C

                                To Taimur,

Settings, Calls tab, manage calls, restrict calls, all outgoing, activate.

That comes up as a password acceptance screen, if you have a password that might work it?

                                        bernardt,

uploading of mp3 tones etc to K300 can be done:
                                        a) via mms or wap (most expensive and almost only used when buying ringtones via phone)

                                        b) via infra red port to PC (most laptops have this have IR port. This is inclued in phone)

                                        c) via cable (extra accessory DCU-11 is needed) through bottom connector and USB at PC.

Please read further down and the next pages for more extensive information.
