if you need seriously handy phone with all amazing features. go with this phone. but make sure to buy silver. it has all the updated software and firmware. if your budget is quite high and you are planning to buy mobile which you gonna use for at least 1 year I will suggest you N95 , N81 etc. In long run competition, you will need something which will entertain you more. I am not the fan of Nokia, but after using more than 100 handsets from year 2000, I will suggest you to go for Nokia N series.

No Phone is Perfect, so it doesnt really matter whats 'better' or not..
Its down to User of the Phone...and becuase everyone has a Brain and Eyes to choose what they want..
and phones these days are more or less treated as if there 'better or not' then others..Camera Battles between them and Music Plyback blah blah blah...
If you want the BEST of the BEST , you have to get ORIGINAL what i mean by that is STANDALONE MP3 Players, Digi Camera's
Phones will Remain PHONES for Telephony..
Telephony is always the first ESSENTIAL for a Mobile Phone..
then Multimedia..
il say it again 'No Phone is Perfect'
so why waste time arguing which is better or not...?
people like 'nick' talks of the top of his head, he thinks N95 is Perfect..well it clearly aint, check the drawbacks big looong list ..

Your problem is solved when you use the Twilight Portrait in the setting.
Especially when you have an object your focusing on at night.

your subject is a building in nightime? then choose landscape mode in scenes,no need for the xenon flash.it will not light the whole building anyway ;)
trying to answer your question wether if its normal or not?
the power of the xenon flash is limited by distance.the closer the subject the better.

So I made my war in my office with my friends phone.The Shootout is began
The rivals is N82,N95,N95 8 giga.
We take the same object in daylight and in night.long and short object was choose to be taken.
Truely my R1EA031 QuicksilverBlack K850i,DEFEAT them all SIGNIFICANTLY in daylight shootout.
We put the results in PC and they all see the result.We print it,and they can see that all the hail and praise goes to my K850i.
Sadly I dont know why my K850i doesnt work fine in nightime.at midrange with its xenon,it put the object with black/dark background.
I dont know why it produce such an image.
I take picture of building at nightime when I use the xenon,the pict of building turns black,except the lamp of the building.
But when Im not using the xenon,the pict of building clearly produce.
I'm so curious,what the hell happen?
The black/dark background appear again when I took picture of an object with xenon in less than 0,5m range.
But it goes clear when the object putted in more than 0,5m from the phone.
SO IS IT NORMAL?or Is IT A PROBLEM?
Do I should know how to use the Xenon?
Somebody,Snipersupra some sugestion please.
BTW,I was defeated in nighttime shoot out,because this problems.

So the battle is still raging.
Guys this is my testimony about k850i.
I buy the phone first time in 25 May 2008,with software R1CA037 the speaker is very low.then i upgrade it with R1EA037 everything running smooth.The speaker significantly improved,turn very loud and clear.Strong and roaring.It beats my friends w880 speaker right down.
Sadly my phone fell off and broke the upper casing.
So then I put my phone to sony's service center.after
they finished, alot of problem came up,bloototh aint working,lousy camera.
Very disapointed of course,then I buy the other k850 Velvet blue with Software R1CA029,the sound is as bad as my previous k850.then I upgrade itwith the latest software that SEIndonesia have R1EA037.Again, the sound perfectly improved,its like roaring tiger,even when you put in maximum sound.Loud and clear.Then i put 2 giga memory.everything seems goes normal.But something problem born unexpectedly.The phone restart itself everyday.its very annoying.and i brought it back again to service centr.they said they already repair it.Damnly,my phone still restart itself.
I brought it back,and Indonesian SE said they will change my phone with the brand new one but I must wait for 3weeks for the process.Such a Joke.
I sell my phone then I saw in Zedge that k850i put a QuicksilverBlack in th market.I was thinking that SE must be put a new sofware in this black one.An repair all problems
Then I hunt down all theSE shop to find the black one.
Finally at 12 june I have it,I bought it.They said Iam the first one that have the QuicksilverBlack in Jakarta.
Who give a damn about that.
All my thought was right. They put R1EA031for the software.
The camera works amazingly improved,the sound as great as R1EA037 produce.Roaring Tigers!!!!All The problems that appear in my previous k850 never appear.
The phone works perfect.
But when I put 2giga memory,it restart again.
The Customer Service sugest me to put max 1giga for the phone.because k850i procesor is not as a tough as the walkman series.
I follow the sugestion.And everything goes perfectly.

at elast nlee has the balls to admit the camera on the n95 is better.
i reckon my n95 could give the k850 a run for its money in speed :D

Lets just stop talking about the specs of N95 and k850, and start discussing about the REAL PERFORMANCE.
The ease of interaction between the user and the cellphone is not measured in megapixels, colors, megabytes or functions. It is about how good the phone adapts to you, not how good do you adapt to the phone.
By experencie, i can easily tell that nokia phones are turtles compared to SE.
Nokia might run SOME applications such as benchmark very evry efficiently, but it will run others app such as games slow as hell.
SE have smoothness and balance in all applications and UI interface. Makes it a cellphone.
N95 takes better picture: a fact. but come on, if you want REALLY GOOD PICTURE quality get yourself a canon/nikon/lumix. Set the k850 to 3mp and it will take exellent pictures.
N95 have wifi and GPS: a fact. But again, using these functions will consume all your battery in less than 3 hours. If you're loking for real internet experience, theres always the computer.
IMHO, the k850 is a cellphone that does few things but it does it w/o much flaw. The n95 can do almost everything, but do you really need to carry them everyday in your pocket?
I have the HTC touch, it has that big screen perfect for using the wifi and opera, but with the time i realized how fast it consumes my battery: in less than 2 hours, i didnt even had batt life to make a call.
Conclusion: want a phone with excellent UI, good camera and fast response? get the k850!
want a phone with many functions you dont always need to carry them in your pocket everyday? + a slowish unanimated UI. get the n95. ah, and it is $100 more expensive.

where's the nearest sony ericsson service center in the south? i'm from Las Piñas but i could go as far as makati only. i know there's one in Glorietta. where did you upgraded your phone? did you bring your receipt or just the phone itself? i also have the 1yr warranty from SE. i don't really plan to upgrade this by myself in the first place because of the horrible stories i've read in other forums.

also megabass? what a load of rubbish. just click on "bass booster" on the n95 and theres your bass. and believe me, theres plenty of it.
+ dani, the camera of the n95 opens up faster than the n95 + the n95 saves the photos quicker.
yes the whole interface is faster on the k850 because it isnt a smartphone.

yeah. It's like rebooting+master reset, but for me its the best option.
Never had anything that might seem BROD-inducing.
I went to an SE center for a clean install. I paid nothing coz it's under warranty.
