No, no cover. The 'lens' is scratch resistant and it can be replaced by the user if neccesary. It pops out and you just pop the new one in. Actually is not a lens at all. Just a glass. The lens itself is in the camera.

Does anyone knows if the camera has a cover to protect the lens, something similar to both the K800 and K810?

Why no 'Expert' want to help me with my dark/night shots and the flash? Please, is of no use to post how good the phone is, without telling people about the major flaw. The nightshots are total useles. In day light the picture quality is very good, but when the flash is needed . . . realy BAD ! I will return my one back on Monday if I can't sort it out until then .

SonyEricsson launched a GPS enabler stereo headset ( HGE - 100 ) which is compatible with almost all sonyEricsson phones. So all their phones will have GPS navigation.

          Johnny,

Thanks for your assessment on K850i..

Me too, felt the pain paying S$848..

Think the battery cannot last (small)..

Anyway, K850i is a nice good phone..

Just got this phone 2 days ago and it's marvellous. It's the perfect upgrade from K800 - it has the same feel to it but has more new stuff - the camera is a beast, and nobody seems to have mentioned the bad-ass led light on the back. The touch soft keys are difficult to get used to - for about 2 minutes. Then it's like a beautiful dream. The memory slot/hot swap function is really handy, and it still has the great alarm that the K800 had. Sure it won't play .avi, .wmv, but that's the only thing I'm not completely satisfied with. It rules.

"hello wats the maximum size memory card (M2 or sd)that can be used in this phone and what is the price? where is the port for the headphones?.thanks"

it can reach up to 16Gb, but that's not yet available. ATM 8gb was the highest capacity, and K850 can utilize it :)

Vishal, thanks for the great feedback. I just received my k850i today. I previously was an owner of the k800 in alure brown and it was by far my favorite phone. The k800 was great looking with brushed metal in brown, VERY unique and the UI for the phone was very easy to use and simply worked for me. I've had Nokia's and know that their UI is very easy, but it gets monotonous, whereas the A100/A200 may take a short while longer with the learning curve it is by far worth it. There are many "small things" about the Sony Ericsson's UI that I LOVE and you will see if you pick one up.

On to the K850i which I now have in my hands. I remember when I saw the original leaked images of what was thought to be the k850i, it was very slim and alienlike. What I got was not a dissapointment, but neither did it have the WOW factor of getting the k800.

The touch sensative keys are not difficult and work great, i've give them an 8 out of 10 because I've had 1 or 2 times where I've had to touch a little extra firmly but still they ergonomically are well set.

The keys that are located within the d-pad are less lit up than those around which was a little dissapointing.

The screen size may have grown .2" since the k800 but there doesn't seem to be much of a difference to me. I haven't played around enough to tell if the resolution (although technically the same) looks better.

The updated UI A200 is virtually the same as it's predecessor with the exception of the media section at a glance. The media section is BEAUTIFUL! My phone came with a 512mb disc and although small I wanted to put some media to see if it would be worth the purchase of a larger disc drive. They sync great and work possibly better than an ipod.

Now the camera, I've seen many postings about some issues. In the box with the K850 there's is a GIANT warning advising to keep fingers away from the front while taking pictures and I've seen in posts this is the only way to get the quality expected for this phone. Well I'll attach a link to the first image I ever took with this phone and I did not follow these rules and it came out just fine. I did purchase this phone for the quality of the camera, but I am not a photographer, nor am I great at knowing how or what to take pictures...in other words this is an image that could have been taken by anyone just pointing and clicking with the k850.

                  http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newburyparkcati6.jpg

In all I feel like my impressions are I'm semi-satisfied. I know I'll grow to love this phone as I have yet to fully use all of the features, but I can't help but think about the high price I paid for this.

This is a great product, Sonyericsson realy have a winner, what I love the most, is the availblity to save you SMS in folders, you can have it by name , or by day , or as businees etc.... also the show you can do with the picture is great. this product will be a winner for sure.

hey guys....i wanted to write about k850i but aftr seeing the nokia vs sony fight here i think i shuld write about both since i own an n95 for about 8 months n k850i since 5 days...

1)battery life: k850i is d winner..i always reduce screen brightness to save battery...n95 drains out very quickly..

2)camera: n95 gives better colors in day time but night time pics r bad caz flash is led flash...k850idoes justice to d colors n awesome for takin night time pics.i wuld rate both equal here...but i prefer sony..caz i get irritated when night pics dont come out well wid nokia n95..

2)interface: nokia is always beter n easy to use...so winner here is nokia.

                            3)speed: nokia software lags n95 is no exception..sony k850i is far better..winner is k850i

4)applications: nokia n95 is open for it n lots of applications available but not so for k850i...so winner is nokia n95.

4)gps n wlan: people who need this dont buy this phone..go for n95 but beleive me gps of n95 is of no use while travelling in car...

5)screen n clarity: from the specs n95 has better color resolution but how many of us have a 5mgapixel cam to store photos on the phone forever...i think v all transfer it to comp or take prints where both n95 n k850i will give good results..

6)cost: sonyk850i as of now is priced on d higher side..but much lesser than nokia n95 when it got released..but hey i got a bluetooth headset free wid d pack..it cost me 620 usd..

i hope my views were of decent help to people...but hey lemme tell u i have used almost all nokia nseries phones n lots of others before but lemme tell u nokia quality is reducing n i feel dejected aftr i had huge peoblems with n76...i really want them not to compromise on quality...

                            i currently own n95,n91(8gb),iphone,sony k850i n w950i...

trust me this phone is a very gud buy aftr the first price drop..im very much releived caz i dont have to charge it everyday..its batery is really awesome...just have to reduce thebrightness a lil n it will run for long..any more help from my side lemme know...

I'd been waiting ages for this phone to be released and cant tell anyone how excited I was when it finally arived from O2. My first impressions were wow.... the box as usual for Sony Ericsson was very nicely designed and gave the feeling of "class" maybe not important to many but to me first impressions stick.

Anyway after opening the box and having a hold of the phone I was very happy with both the size and weight, infact it is quite similar in feel to the K800i which was my priar phone.

After sticking in my 4GB M2 mem card and copying all my contacts etc I was all set up and ready in roughly 5 mins. Very impressed and happy.....

For the first 2 days of owning this phone I had no problems what so ever, unfortunaly this was to change, the media menu as mentioned in other posts is good but rather pointless in regards to the photo aspect....anyway going back to my problem, I clicked on the "latest photo" option and wham! The whole phone vibrated like mad and all the lights on the key pad went really bright following by a complete shut down of the phone and then after around 20 seconds it came back on saying "searching for network" and went back onto the normal screen. Upon going into the "latest photo" menu again the same thing happened. After many hours of trying to figure out why this was happening I decided to return the phone to O2 for a replacment model which arived today. Unfortunatly the same error occured on my new brand new K850i.... this leads me to believe it must be a software problem which SE failed to spot during there somewhat poor testing program. Im hoping this problem will be resolved by a software upgrade but who knows.....? I love the phone so will be hanging onto it but this problem has somewhat spoiled the euphoria of months of waiting for me.

Just whilst I remember, I have also tryed using the phone without the mem card and doing a "full factory reset" and unfortunatly problem still exists.

I hope this review helps those who have this phone and I would be interested if anyone else has had this problem as its occured on 2 brand new hand sets.

                                  To people moaning on about the phonebook;
                                  USE YOUR SIMCARD

                                  TIE7-
Not always is WiFi free, atleast not here in Canada. I wonder if that's why the K850 if cheaper here...
Also, there is a GPS enabler headset. If you'll take the time to look it up, it's the HGE 100. If not, then just wait for it to show up somewhere. I don't think it's released yet, but expect it before the end of this year.
About the battery, yes it is small, but it is just a bit more powerful then the first N95 release. With a less brighter screen, it can utilize the battery for other uses, rather then have it take up 25% of it's life, the 256k screen takes up from approx. 8-12%.

                                  4Bbn-
Good for you, you've found the Canadian price.
But I don't buy online, I buy in person. There's no homepage for the stores I go to, except www.communicationstore.ca, but their prices are always wack. If they say it's 500 for the u600, it's actually 380. (They never change the prices after it's released, and their prices are just an estimate before it actually comes out. They post items on their thing [When they do update their website] a week before it comes out.)

But if you still want to argue with me and tell everyone that the CAD pricing is 620, ok then.
But I'll just let everyone know in Toronto it's cheaper at a price of 550 (at the store's discretion). So to go to Eaton Centre, and go to the cellphone booth near the SonyStore. Or in PMall, find the JCY Boutique, and there'll be nearly a dozen cellphone stores, so their prices will be competitive.

Ive had this phone for a few days and this is my review for now:

Phone actually looks better than in pics.Design is just brilliant and the luminous green is really a attention-grabber.It is undeniably somewhat a fingerprint magnet but its not really that obvious. The UI is fantastic too but sadly my phone has hanged or restarted abt 7-10 times since i got it.But this should be taken care of once the update arrives mid-november.

More importantly the camera takes brilliant pics save for the problem of the flash discharging too early occasionally.Should be taken care of once the update arrives as well

Most of the other bugs stated by other users are present in mine too but all of this can be fixed by the software update

Only real problem i have to overcome now is the keypad.Sumhow i find it really hard to get used to.Maybe its becoz my previous phone had a really easy-to-use keypad. But hopefully i can get over this.

Otherwise the phone is brilliant and here in singapore it comes with a free bluetooth headset (Total at 850 SGD or 550++ USD).Video quality is better than i had expected it had my frens open-mouthed when i took and showed them a video. My suggestion would be to get the black one(luminous green) it looks nicer in real than in the pics.

                                    Overall Rating (Realistically) : 8.8/10

Hopefully that would increase once the firmware upgrade arrives.

Feel free to email me for any queries...

I have the N95 and K850 as mentioned..i have spent a day with each phone..honestly i find the N95 still better. K850 doesnt look as good and glossy like the pictures. If youve seen it in ur hands or from a friend, you will see that the green ring is really cheap looking..It feels plasticish..The touchscreen is well annoying..the responsiveness is really good when you dont want to press it, but when you do try takes a few hits before it confirms your choice..In addition the brightness is really bad, colors are dull..N95 still beats this phone..no in design but quality and what you get..

HI all, just noticed that some people seem to be saying the camera is not great in some lighting conditions, i got this phone yesterday, and i found that in lighter conditions, you should turn the flash off, i think it dims the general lighting exposure so you dont get a glare on your picture, when i took some pictures in medium light with flash off the pics looked great, and as for dark conditions, the flash makes the pictures look great, this is me going from a p990i with the 2mp camera to this so i am very impressed with the overall picture quality.if your in lower l;ight, but not dark enough for flash, use the exposure button to lighten the overall image before the picture, plus photofix will help aswell.

                                        Hope that was somewhat helpful
