phone is very expensive.. you dont need most of the applications you paid for. phone is a waste of money! screen easily gets destroyed. advise: dont buy this phone.. sorry, sony ericsson!!!

Hi,

There is a very good offer going on for this phone in the UAE (around USD 410) and am trying to analyse if it's worth buying.

I have read lots of negative posts about this phone eg. bad battery life, keeps on hanging or switching off, need to restart quite frequently.

Some have said that the new software upgrade has fixed the problems but some say the problems are still there (even after the upgrade).

Can someone please advise me if this is a good buy or I should look for some other Smart phone?

there is an option of sound and vib check it out in control panel.

This Phone has some is disadvantages.
Like that :
1.The screen is died after light off.so time/date can't be viewable in stand by mode.
2.Profile is only sound or vibration.Not in both mode(Sound + Vibration) or only light mode.Such that has various type of profile which is in Nokia S60 devices.Thoguh both (Nokia & Sony Ericsson)has Sumbian OS.

This is n't expected from Symbian as well as Sony Ericsson.

anyone have a problems in his phone p990i update it feom sonyericsson web site and all these problems will disappeare trsut me
before i update it i found alot of problems "sound,bluetooth,slow and alot
but after update allthing is okay
fasttttttt and fantastic phone
don't be sad cuz u buy this phone just update the software and u will say " I love u sony Ericsson"
if u know a friend have the same phone ask him to do that

Heres a universal tip to everyone:

Check your FIRMWARE if youre having problems. Like many good things, the phone software is a work in progress. Download the latest firmware and upload it to your phones That should get rid of some of the glitches.

Try to keep all of your user files on your memory stick. That way you free the internal memory so applications can run better, and if you break your phone, you can still access your data in the memory stick via a card reader.

Charge your mobile phone every night, wether you use up the battery or not. Never let it run out of power before you charge it. Lithium Ion batteries are very unlike the old rechargeables that require you to drain your batteries before you recharge them. Draining the Li Ion batteries will shorten its productive life.

Invest in a good screen protector. Do you know how much those LCD screens cost to replace? Expensive.

The P990i doesnt come with a holster, I suggest you get a padded pouch to protect it.. Im using a nubuck pouch that is lined with a lint free, anti-scratch lining.

Back up your files.

You do not have the latest Software in your phone.
The latest is R9F011.This is a big improvement on the one you have.UPDATE NOW.

well...hi to all...i have used it for a number of times..this is what i do b4 going for the mobile i like the most....well going through the opinions it was obviuos that "IT HANGS"...this is when u have a call, when u r taking a pic or sending msgs...it happened a number of times while i was using it...if it was firmware poblem lemme know but if its a born mistake then i think SE should be more responsible in the future...one thing more DONT GO FOR SOMETHING THAT LET U DOWN

Hi All
These problems r very normal but very iritating first solution upgrade its Firmware but some already have the main thing what i m going to inform u that is there still some bugs in R9F i m also with R9F but with me there is no problemike that as u r telling here brightness level keep to 29% for battery timing enhance for bluetooth some time create problems but with old firmware not with R9F volume is still low 910i volume is 100time better then 990 i m using IM plus for chat its working very well when i uses the net on 990 then some times also for it shows the message restart for better performance thats not problem but during calls in old firmware thats happened with me but now its never did like that one thing who is facing the problems like that please also write ur firmware with u r runing every thing is fine in it there is no problem like i have to feel fuss that all was in previous firmware now the problems is R9F these r
MP3 volume is low
Opera takes too much place its close the application automaticly with out any information
there is no other problem
Some tips
After firmware upgradation format it then use it
Reduce its brightness to 29% its best for use
always turn off the WLAN 8F THERE is no use
same abot network use only Gsm if no use for 3G
i m using 1GB its workin very well

For a better headset, try the HPM-85. I tried them out... Sound quality is awesome... especially for the price.. roughly $US 50. Its not an in ear earbud headphone... which others might not find appealing.. but I like Ear-muff type of headphone.. more comfy.. more hygenic *grin* and you can let it just rest on your neck when you want it off your ear. :)

Shawn: Navigation software... hmmm.. GPS? The closest thing Ive come to that on a P series is Pocket Streets. YOu could try searching on www.cnet.com and check on the download tab (Am I even allowed to do this?) They have a comprehensive number of software for anything including mobile software.

Bose: Try having your firmware updated at your authorized SonyEricsson dealer. Which should be covered by the sales warranty. at least, thats how it is here in the Philippines (sometimes *grin*).

Stranger: Thats really weird because when i had my firmware upgraded, my speaker volume increased significantly, and the other glitches I used to experience disappeared (almost all, at least). Try having it checked at your SE service center.

Raymond: Almost all of the mobile phone manufacturers have plants in china... its inevitable that you will find one in your hands. With this in mind, I doubt it if there is actually a "fake" P990i going around as SE is the only company that makes it. Ive seen some copies of the K750i and some Nokia phones that are made by companies in china but you can clearly tell that its a copy with the quality and the model names. What you should be worried about when buying a phone is its warranty. Make sure you get at least 1 year worth of warranty of both parts and service. Make sure that the warranty will be serviced by an AUTHORIZED SonyEricsson Shop. That way, youre secure in your purchase.

Bryan: Cant help you on that directly but I can give you an idea of the price of the P990i here in my country (Philippines) Its currently selling at Php 16.5K which is around $US 365.00

Cherry: The P990i is indeed a brute of a phone. A lot of my friends think it looks pretty good on a guys hands.... but ive seen it sit on quite a number of ladies and girls as well, and it looks HOT! They end up looking Tech savvy and very much in control. but then again, thats just my very humble opinion. About the firmware... You get a mixed reaction on that... For me, when I had mine updated to the latest firmware upgrade... everything was more responsie, and "glitch-free". So now my baby is just perfect... faster and more responsive than my P910i.

And yes, the PC Suite for Vista is out! download at www.sonyericsson.com/support.

We love out SE... and Ive often seen Nokia users migrate to SE and experience problems... Probably because theyre not used to the Symbian interface.... which definitely takes a whole lot more brain activity to get used to.... As such, SE is not made for everybody.... For those who are finding their experience with the P990i a sad experience, I wish you all the luck in finding the perfect phone for you... I bought Sony Erisccon P990i(made in France) last week from Bangladesh. But I have some problem. The problem is :

1. The Battery life is short. I charge it 2 hours. but it goes down quickly.
2.Some application don't work sometime. when I restart the phone thn it works.
3.Some time Backlight are always on though backlight off is set to 1 min. For this I have to restart the phone to solve.

My Firmware version is:

Phone: CXC162037 R9EC001
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R5A01
Organizer: CXC162036 R4B03
CDA: CDA 162007/1 R4B03

Can i update phone software(upgrade firmware) using internet in Bangladesh? does this Problem/Bugs are solved in latest firmware?

My another query is : The sound quality through headset of this set(p990i) does not fullfill my expactation. Previously i used Nokia N70. For Nokia N70, I used Audio Adapter AD-46 and HS-23 hdset for good sound quality. but the default hdset which is come with Sales pack oh this set does not satisfied at all to me. I think i have to buy another original hdset from Sony Ericsson for listeneing good music.Which hd phone i have to buy to listen good quality music ?

If U have good knowledge abt P990i as well as differents headsets of SE. plz give me ur opinion abt this.

Since its debacle,SE started making n China without mentioning any where as previously Made n france.The price has drasticly flloped to 300$.Since i opened the box to see a Brick with hopeless camera internal memory full mostly all themes installed on phone mem,extra SonyDuo cards cost triple than nokia ones.With thin mobs n market and forget the price i returned with a loss of 50$.It has been SE nightmare,still two yrs old model going cheap does not compel u to buy////

Brightness is very very good but there is no problem with R9F now low Volume held there is no problem with R9f restart for better performance sometimes it happens but thats also was in P910 i m using IM plus for chatting its working fine AOL MSN GOOGLE YAHOO every thing is fine battery timing is very very good just reduce the brightness level to 29% its best for use builtin opera creat the problem shows the message memory low ya its closes the some application with out informing thats the one worse thing is in it its solution is dowmload its 3rd part opera i m using mini opera downloaded from opera own site there is only one thing nad in it and thats its display cant see uder direct sunlight there also lot of good things in it this set is not bad lot of good things also has this set alarm volume is Ok its increase automaticly check its volume level the other good thing is Sonyericsson is giving its new firmware 24th of this June that will b full and final version for 990i no release after this
