very disapointing.... thats how i would jusdge this phone.
i needed a smartphone and was due an upgrade.
got the P990 upgraded free thanks to O2 but
what a let down. the phone is so slow and the
interface just isnt user friendly.
i mean, come on, what sort of phone has an alarm that doesnt work when the unit it turned off, and is a silent alarm when in silent mode ??!!
i was very late for a meeting this morning because of this stupid darn phone so thats it. end of. i tried living with it for 10 days but it just isnt the correct phone for my requirements.
i am sending it back and will try the nokia N95 instead.... good riddance

Hi all,
I've just updated the software last week. Today the phone backlight went dead on me but the phone is usable, still can pick up the phone if someone calls but you can't make a call or do anything else 'cause you can't see nothing. Does anyone experiencing this problem???

Hi, planning to buy this phone; but there are few things in my mind.
1. I tried it at a local shop but i found the screen isn't as sharp as its counterparts. Even in the flip open mode the SE logo looked blunt.
2. During the short stint I found the QWERTY pad to be rather comfortable. But is it comfortable in the long run?
3. Why is the price about a 150US$ cheaper when buying from a local shop inspite of buying it from the operator unlocked? Is the cheaper one smuggled or refurbished? Can I be guarenteed originality he i buy the costlier one?
Please help me guys.

Thanks for the feedback. Tried with the split. Each file size was 230MB, but it did not work. Will continue trying with lower bitrates and the link you have provided.

Guys, can anybody tell me if this phone has Speaker Widening? It has Megabass like W-Series, but still wondering if it has the complete features (MUSICAL) of W-Series.

to owen the first one i mean the touch screen is perfect i should have put a coma after no. but touchscreen is picture perfect once again provided you buy it from a sony dealer.

iam a sony ericsson user since 2005,earlier i have used p-910i,iwas completely satisfied with that fone except the camera,well now i m using p-990i(orange) which my friend bought it from u.k .every features of this fone is absolutely perfect.however,one thing which hurted me alot is its speaker volume which is very less as compare 2 p-910 &p-900.i don't want 2 switch to nokia as the designs & features created by sony ericsson in their fones are uniquein their own.kindly help me out with an exact resolution for increasing its volume &also with the procedure how 2 do it.i have already mentioned my e-mail address 2 u.i m waiting 4 ur reply.

1)no touch screen is perfect
2)wifi is good unless you are a very heavy user you wont know the diff
3)yes and it comes with the software
4)the built is just perfect in fact too good
Owen- every thing is gr8 abt this phone provided you buy it from original dealer or else the complains will never end.its a very good phone provided you buy it from a original sony dealer i know you have to pay more but you will not have prob.

ALL P990i USERS...
...i have some questions
1)
im planning to change my phone from N80 to P990i and before i do this, i would like to know if it's true that the touchscreen function of P990i is a little offset to the right? meaning that if you will press letter "S" on the virtual keyboard on the screen, it will press "A" instead? or if you press "OK" on the screen, you need to press a little to the right of "OK" to hit it?

P990i uses wireless specification 802.11B and my Nokia N80 uses 802.11G which is a faster wireless specification (wireless G is faster than B even in laptop computers). Is wireless internet SPEED not annoying in P990i? i know that i may need to adjust with the speed if i change to P990i since my N80 has faster wireless intergration, so im wondering if P990i's wireless is TOLERABLE and DECENT even if it's only wireless B.

my N80 can wirelessly share files between my computer via my wireless router. I can also pick an MP3 file from my phone and the music plays to my PC via wireless too. im using a software from Nokia and I installed it in my PC to make all these work. Is P990i also capable of doing all these wireless functions? does it also have a software for PC that will enable file sharing and wireless music via wireless connection?

with regard to hardware or mechanical built of my N80, i dont have any problem at all: no creaking sound when i slide it or whatever, no loose parts, no paint or no color that fades or peels off, parts are all aligned properly, everything is tight even after using it for a year, dropped it already but no cracks or chipped off part or scratch, no part that gets fingerprints, etc...
so does P990i also behaves like all these? no creaking sound, no loose parts, not too fragile when dropped?...
i know i have a lot of questions because this is a difficult decision for me since N80 is such a perfect phone for me but im looking for something with touchscreen capability and if there's another phone out there better than my N80. thanks for all your time and will be waiting for feedback and HONEST and UNBIASED opinion.
