To check your firmware version:
In flip-closed mode, press MORE > STATUS. Scroll down and read the ORGANIZER version.
THE CURRENT FIRMWARE ORGANISER VERSION IS "R5A17".
If your firmware version is something else, go to www.sonyericsson.com, download the Sony Ericsson update service, follow the onscreen instructions and UPDATE your phone.

Help! anyone.Pls can anyone give me a step by step way of checking the firmware version my p990i has?just bought and what to know if i need to upgrade the software.Thanks

just reading this months what-mobile mag and in it it says sony admit there was not enuf memory avaible in the p990i ,,well bloody well thanks sony after people have forked out hundreds of pounds for the fone..i suppose its my fault i knew it was late coming out and they must be struggling with it,,
yes admit it now after youve sold us the sodding thing,,why the hell didnt you know youve been in computing long enuf,
it is so bloody good to say that it was not right,,how the frigging buggary did it get approved ,,well sod you its to late now ive had mine away twice thru vodafone and its still bloody well closing to improve performance,,we shud be getting our money back for a product that at point of sale was of unmerchantable quality ???
sony should swap this or ok then MY P990I for this new device if they are fair so im going for the motorola IF i purchase the series uiq platform again,,I am certainly not going thru this rudy nightmare ever again,,im bloody raging sony rubbing salt into the wound ,,i hope you fail with this device and definetly dont wish you any look in the future,

To ne1 having error msgs: its beina long time tellin that only the update can help but here we go again!
Q: What do U do when ur win XP starts showing error msgs or frequent crashes?
A: I reinstall windows, simple!

Problem 1: The phone will reboot when i open a website through WLAN, it will pop up a message "the phone restart to improve perfomance" dissappointed.
Problem 2: The phone always showing memory is not enough ! i wonder if this could solve with a bigger size memory stick ?

Hey Guys, i just had a Q!! i am using a P990i since 6 months but i always get an error msg which says:
Application Closed
Application: WatcherMainThread
Reason Code: User
Reason Number: 11
and once i get this error msg, i can't recieve any msg, i have to switch of and switch on the mobile to recieve msg's and then again the same, so can u please help me... if u have the solution please send me a maile to:

if you want to watch full movies on your mobile without any problems, go find a third party application like divx player or smartmovie for uiq.

To shahrukh: u probably told only the audio bitrate. To tell u the truth it can be a fault with the movie ur encoding from or the conversion sw ur using coz I had a similar experience. Try the converter I told u. I convert my files and usu. for a 15 min. clip it rarely exceeds 30 Mb but the quality is still very high and no blocking or compression artifacts in the clip. These problems can be sometimes really annoying. As for the error no. I can't help u much coz they are the bugs in the program so leave them. What is ur firmware coz the latest fw has considerably increased the multimedia vol. Also format ur Memory Stick using the phone not from pc. It helped me improve my phone speed. I also found that updating the phone more than one time does help. Like I updated my set, some errors were left, then again updated, result: I got the golf game back and also removed some bugs. Try it, once u update ur set the new fw then resides on ur HDD so u don 'ave to dl again simply attach the cable and the flashing procedure starts. And more maybe smartmovie can help u, check to see if theres a new version to support p990.

eiiii guys,i own a p910 and all i can say is that the camera is not a CRAP, its a GARBAGE! the quality of sound is ...(24 channel polyphonic), and its not enough..can a p990i with a 2megapix and 40 channel poly, make a difference?what nokia phone or other SE phone more or less can be compared in this p990 in terms of camera and sound?

The message shown while trying to open the file is as under:
Error
There have been problems trying to open the file. Do you want to try again?

On trying to open one of the 3 split files there was a similar message but it also read Reason 3. What is reason 3?
Also after failure to open the split file the phone tends to hang.
I had updated to the latest firmware 2 weeks back and use a 4GB Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo for storing my AV files.
The encoding is done at the following setting:
Video codec: mpeg4
Video size: 320x240
Frame rate: 29.97
Aspect: 4:3
Audio codec: mpeg4aac
Bit rate:64
Sample rate:44100
The setting works fine for files upto 140MB (i.e. roughly 15-17 minutes of a movie)
I prefer the mp4 format for the better image quality compared to 3gpp.
As for the rest of the phone it seems to work fine excpt for the volume which as quite a few people on the forum too have felt is quite low. Hope SE guys do something about it in their next update.

never tried to play such a huge .mp4 file directly using such the device, but 3gps instead. I can watch full DVD from 3gps file that has been converted from DVD format.

To shahrukh: can u tell me what it says when playing the video coz I donthink that it shouldn't play files as small as 230 MB? Maybe I can help U out. I'm currently using the letest firmware and sure there are very minor bugs and it doesn't even hang or restart and its got one click video paying capabilities.

had many sony ericsson phones, but this is t slowest of all.everything slow,hesitant,esp after changing battery n starting up.prone to freezing esp if call come in middle of performing something.sure to stall.someone tell me why? thks!
