If youre still thinking of upgrading to a P990i from youre N70. First figure out if this will truly be an upgrade for you. Do you need a communicator class phone that relies heavily on the touch screen interface for maximum utilization of its functions? If you do, the SE 990i could be a good choice as it doesnt only have a touch screen and but also numeric keypad that will probably help in the transition from a keypad based interface to a touch screen interface. If youre comfy with keypads, you might want to try Nokia's E series. The P990s 2MP camera is comparable to that of my w800i that gives exceptional photo quality for a mobile. The screen makes taking and viewing photos way better than the smaller screen size of the w800. Whichever you decide on, I hope you get what you need and want. Cheers.

Ive been a firm user of the P series of SE. I actually still have my P910i that I still use. Ive always been a big fan of the Symbian UIQ interface... probably because Ive gotten used to it after my 4th P series. My P990i does have a number of minor hickups, that Im sure SE will figure out a way to correct in the succeeding firmware updates. This is inevitable as they are still using Symbian 9.1 UIQ 3 on the soon to be launched P1. Ive experienced sudden phone rebooting, led lights refusing to go off or stop blinking, and the one that really gave me a scare was when my earpiece speakers refused to function. All this was remedied (wether permanently or otherwise, Im dont know) with my turning off the phone and removing the batteries. Here's a little tip as well, make sure that the contact points of your SIM card are clean. and the best way to clean the gold contact points on a SIM card is by laying it on a table and using a piece of paper, start rubbing the gold contact points, Youll notice dirt and oxidation coming off, fairly easy. Do not use solvents or cleaning liquids as these may seep into the inner circuitry of the module. Make good use of the task manager... eliminate applications that are running on the back ground. On my P910i, I was use a program called "Tracker" which is pretty much a great task manager, amongst its other capabilities. It has a useful setting that enables you to terminate all or choice programs that are running, when you close your phone's flip. Id set an exception for the music player so it doesnt stop playing my MP3s when I close the flip. Im not sure if it will run on my P990i as I never really felt the need for it, considering the built in task manager on the P990. Anyways, If you have other questions, feel free to email me, and Ill try to get back to you on it. Ive come to a number of tricks when it comes to handling the P series. Anyways, for those who need a PIM for the Vista OS, I tried MobilEdit and Oxygen Phone Manager both for the Symbian platform versions, they work fine with little hickups. Yet im still waiting for the release of SE's Phone managing suite for the Vista OS which they say would be released within this 2nd quarter of the year. So it should be released within the month or so.

Don't never say this phone is perfect or excellent until you install lot of application or using lot of multitasking prog or use the wifi too. For min. Activities (like teen doing such as mp3,cam,radio) is good but for max. Activities(like business people doing such as wifi,multitasking,browsing,download) is SUCK!!! SE People has tried to make some joke with this "very excellent product" but NOT FUNNY!!!!

About WLAN, i'm facing this prob also. This is because of p990i just has wifi 802.11b not "b/g". It's different between b and b/g. "b" is old product of wifi and "b/g" is update product. With "b" is easy to connect but IT'S HARD TO SURF!! And I try to reconnect it, then the phone is REBOOT ITSELF even my phone firmware is new(R9F011)!!! WHAT KIND OF NIGHTMARE!!! I will trade this phone tomorrow and sure losing my money for USD$120. I think it's cost to learn that no phone is perfect but this product is BIGGEST FAILURE OF SONY ERICSSON MADE EVER!!!!TO MUCH FAILS IS NOT ABOUT PERFECT OR NOT, BUT DUMB AND DUMBER,LOL!!!!!

i been using Nokia units for 8 years and this My First Time I Change to Use SE P990i& is not a Long Time have a Problem it's like get an error Some msg which says: "Application Closed "
When i want to Transfer Some Music To my Friend's&I Use Bluetooth,That Song Can to recieve That A Song,But Can't play that Song!

N70 is music edition but u can compare 990 with any
music edition
and about picture quality 990 is good for still
picture then any other set

Im using N70 also. Would also like to know if its worth it to upgrade to a P990i. Specificly for music and new OS to toy around with.

Hi there,
Rassal, if you want a touchscreen, no doubt you have to go for the P990i. I has a good camera (though) 2 mp and sound quality.
The Nokia N73 is also perfect, regarding camera, sound and other software.
Upgrading from N70 to P990i and even to N73, is just a question of choice, but I would rather go for the P990i...(I have both).
As for the other problems faced by some of the people in this forum, the only problem I have faced with the P9901 was with the 3D Golf game...but with the updating I do normally, I don´t face any more problems...as for the Edge connection, this smartphone doesn't have it...

I NEED URGENT HELP. While using the update service after the update service has updated via the internet as the phone was being updated (at 45%)it says there was a problem and i should start again. when your keypad is close press more then status scroll down and from there you can see your f/w version
if you open your keypad choose main menu and at the top of the screen where you can see inverted triangle click it, then system information...
