I have been using P990 since last 1 month. Previously I was using Nokia 3230. By all standards, I think 3230 is a good phone. P990 is wonderful upgrade. I had updated the firmware to R9. The phone does not hang. There are absolutely no bugs. Yes it takes time getting used to the phone but once u r through than the phone is pure joy. Sony has very thoughtfully given a numeric keyboard like a standard mobile keyboard & also a QWERTY keyboard. The jog dial works seamlessly. The handwriting option is very good though it takes time getting used to it. The sound quality on the loudspeaker is average but in a small room, the sound quality is enough. The browser is fast and stable. U can open attachments. However Sonyericsson support site does not open properly. I have installed Opera mini also. The radio is also good. However when u press the button on the wired handsfree instead of channel change, 990 goes mute. The phone is pretty fast. U can listen to music, surf the internet, also take pictures without loss of speed.
The 2 MP camera is great. The photographs are excellent. The camera speed is fast. I hav'nt used the video recording though.
I have extensively used P990i & I am satisfied with the performance.
P990i is highly recomended. I think u cannot compare any phone in the market to P990i as this phone is a complete package: good looks, performance, multimedia capabilites, 2MP camera, MP3 player & radio, PDA functionality etc. Go for it

hi guys please help me
previously i had r9EC001 and i gave it to service centre for upgrade they have changed my region i think now i am on uk trade version i saw on a website and i can not upgrade to R9F011 as u guys are sayin when i connect it says latest phones used??? in the update window and there is a photo of p990i next to it , problem is my organizer and bluetooth version is too old see below

Hi! I have a bad experience with my P990i, I have tried to update my software using update service. when the updating reached 71% the update stopped and just returned to the start screen. Thinking that the update is finished I tried to turn on my phone but it keeps on asking to insert sim although there was inserted sim already. I tried to use other sim cards but to no avail. Please help...

i ll upload new firmware tonight n ll tell u. but actually m disappointed by upgrading time by time. hope this time se ll solve the prob.

R9F011 Firmware :
this is my exprience (my last firmware is R9EC001):
1- Loading bar on phone startup
2- Startup time dicrease 10 second
3- Speaker Loudness increase 20%
4- Transition menu in control panel
5- Camera enhancment
6- erorr and restarting gone
7- Battery consume less than before

Slow ! Slow in every thing,often freezes,but very comprehensive in range of functions.Looks funny too.

I updated the new software in the sonyericsson website... My p990i is going crazy. Time is different in sms...
text messages are sent in symbols?!?!?!
whats going on... Is there any way to fix this

FOR THE PEOPLE OF SE COMPANY...
Please make another version of this great phone which will be faster and reliable than now...Its too bad for your company to make such a disaster mistakes..Put much faster processor, 3mpx cam, 640\480 vga video, 32bit display,bigger memory card support than 2gb and if its possible install the symbian 9.1. edition, uiq3 is a total failyre...with respect but Im a veeeryyy big fan of mobile devices and I know...believe me..

This phone I have had for only 6 months and have had 4 replaced with faults from a self adjusting clock tto it forgetting all my contacts including the ones on the sim card don't know if this helps anybody but there you have it! ps pardon my spelling

Hey Smef, I got this phone yesterday two questions for you, how do I check what version firmware i'm using, secondly how do I upgrade it....you mentioned to upgrade it to R9F011.

I purchased this phone last week. I'm having second thoughts of updating it's software. I would like to check the if the OS installed in the unit is up to date. How do I check version installed in the unit?
