Any idea when we will get the sucessor to the P990 ... Nokia got E90 Imate the Ultimate series Motorola Q is coming out in GSM mode SE ... when r u going to bring out a really great New Smart Phone P800 was Great P 900 great / 910 good / P990 below average..

Hi HAJ - Thanks for your reply. I don't think I had a branded phone because I bought my P990i in a standard cellphone store here in Saudi Arabia. My P990i is working perfectly except its video that sometimes when I'm taking a video clip, it freezes (not one (1) second though), that's why I really wanted to update my phone to R9 hoping to fix this problem.

ei... ive been chekin mobile9.com eversince my phone is N70 and i got lots of application and themes for it.now my P990 is much far better than my N70 so i got this phone. the application there in mobile9.com are for P900 and P910 which is not compatible with P990. the only thing i got from that site are the themes. mybe the support for free applications are not that much. anyways if you guys happen to know some sites i can visit pls post it coz i know many P990 users will be happy for it. tnx again...

ok guys on the ques on the sony upgradt it does not sat to press c and connet the usb cable and the user content are not affected pls explain thanks.

yayafams you can find free applications and themes for p990i in (mobile9.com)it doesn't offer much but it's better than nothing

please somebody help me...
I use my P990i for internet from the hotspot, but the phone only can connect for 5 minutes, after that the page is close and back to the menu and I have to reconnect and open the page again, after I try so many times finally the hone is hang...and I have to restart it...
Please someone may be can tell me what is going on and how I can handle it...

R9 is the latest firmware for p990i if your phone branded i think you should ask your provider if not try again or go to a SE retailer, hope being usefull.

i think it's a global user service you can upgrade it normally unless u have a branded p990i then u can only upgrade your phone from your provider

After the update, does this phone have any other stability problems? Does it lag a lot like N-series phones? How well does it support 4GB?

hi! its been amonth to have this phone. i tried putting a music video with mp4 file..the phone wont play it or mp4 is not the file for the video to play? mpeg, avi or mp4? i dont know wut kind of files it plays.

Goodbye guys and SE P990i, its been a good 6 months and im switching now to the HTC TyTN. Not that the P990i had serious flaws personally, in fact it was the most enjoyable music phone i have ever had, with a 4GB memory stick and the power of sony walkman, I used it mainly as my ipod with the HBH-DS970. But now that im in nursing school, i need a pocket pc where i can install medical applications, so i switched to Windows Mobile.
Personally, im a multimedia person, and i know im making a huge compromise. As we all know, the P990i has the best camera in a pda phone, even beating Nokia's Nseries (Noisy series) camera phones, and i was so proud to show off my photos to everyone because it was so good. Im gonna miss the superb sounds of the P990i, though not walkman branded, it sure amazes my ears with the megabass feature. I dont know if this is a huge mistake or a sick twist of fate, but my move to the Windows Mobile is purely because i need a pocket pc with medical applications, which unforunately, symbian OS is not much into. If not, i would have been happily contented with the P990i.

HAJ - Is the link you mention to update P990i to R9 is also compatible with those units purchased in Saudi Arabia?

Unfortunately, you phone is probably branded - comes from a certain company. So, you cannot have the latest firmware, because SE gives you the software which is provided for your brand (or the brand the phone is originally coming from), usually the older one. Only UNBRANDED ones can have the latest firmware (R9CE001). So if for instance your P990 is coming from Orange, you'll be updated for the Orange soft.
Mine phone is unbranded.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't think that the update of the daylight savings time is a big deal. I have the htc wizard and that doesn't update for dst nor does it even automatically set the time. I have to manually set it. however if updating the p990i with the new firmware makes it a worth while phone then that will definitely be my next purchase. any suggestions for the best place to buy from?

I follow your instructions and end up with a message from SE said that I already have the most updated software installed in my P990!. I check the status of my phone and I have the following info:
Phone CXC162037 R7A001
Bluetooth CXC162058 R4F01
Organizer CXC162090 R2A05
CDA CDA162007/6 R2A04
Is this the most updated software I got for my P9901. What is the meaning of R9?
I read some opinion from SE supporter & it seems they have higher grade than mine!
Could you please teach me again?

to ILS...I understand what ur saying about the US abruptly changing the daylight saving time however i do not think that the issue is a vendor-realted one so much as it is a SE P990 one. You see my problem is that all other non-smartphone SE models can update themselves once switched on and off to accomodate the time adjustment (even with the daylight saving time coming earlier this year, i've witnessed it myself last sunday) but this phone didn't! That's my issue. I know it's not a big one but its nice not to manually update ur time on ur phone everytime daylight saving time rolls around.

hey people don't worry about updating your p990i it couldn't be easier u need:-
1-USB cable (it came with the phone package)
2-a PC with an internet connection
3-download the update software service program from this link (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=ae&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps1_1_3_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10336&fid=21839&esi=true)
it's totaly free u don't need to pay a penny
4-install the program
5-start the program
6-the program will tell you what to do it's so easy but it will take some time (according to your internet connection speed)
but i will tell you how to do it incase you don't understand take out your SIM, put back the battery, press C and hold, plug the usb (you must recharge your battery to full before you start that's it).
