Ali,

As mention earlier those 4 icons (with flap open) are permanent. You cannot change or remove it. Sorry! It's part of the operating system.

    i'm using p990i but i don't know how to check what software i'm using right now.
    can anyone help me to upgrade the software because i been using and its really making me headache because of the low memory and restarting

      I don't know why I cant access my Task Manager from my main screen (flip open)? Yesterday it was just working fine. Is there anything I could've done to deactivate it or somethin'??
      How do I have it working again? Please help.

        QTD,

        That was what exactly I needed help for, are the 4 icons on your main screen. I have my flip open & I'm aware that you can make them invisible when the flip is close, but I wanna do the same thing & possible change the icons as well, since I don't use all those...how can I remove or at least change some of the icons on my main screen?

          To Ali,
          I don't know what main screen's icons are you referring to? The one when the number key pad is opened or when it is close.

          Anyway, what I know. If you open your Number Key pad. The 4 icons that appear at the bottom of the screen or permanent, it is the Operating System icons.

          On the other hand, the 4 icons appear in the middle of the screen with the number key pad close can be made invisible until you use the thumb wheel. By going into --> More--> Shortcuts --> and uncheck the “Display shortcut” box.

                  Once you've downloaded the software
                  (Update_Service_Setup-2.6.11.7.exe)
                  install it to your pc. Plug in your
                  phone via USB cable to your PC. Run the firmware
                  Update Service (Icon: Update Service). It will start to automatically detect your
                  phone,finds, download,and install the most current firmware update for your phone.

                  READ and CAREFULLY FOLLOW ALL on
                  SCREEN PROMPT.

                  That's it! If everything goes well you
                  should have the Latest firmware installed

                    I am a computer science major and a java programmer guy. R7 was very unstable.
                    upgraded to R9 today from home using the update service software. I looks as a brand new phone. PC docking provides options for SIM cards, 3G network now is visible, and minor options here and there that make it more intuitive-smarter.

                    Still many things that annoy me - j2me programs that work on tiny Zxxx ericssons do not work here for example, the snapper middlet from sun microsystems...

                      hi to all!

                      variation makes it difficult to pick a cell phone. but all in all, i think that P990 seems unique compared with any other cell phones!
                      pls someone who knows well about the cell phones and experienced a lot of mobiles such as P990, tell me that the choice of P990 is still the greatest choice or not?!

                        I intend to change from my Palm to P990. Can all my list of contacts in Palm be transferred to P990 seamlessly? Does P990 have an Oxford Dictionary?

                          Hi Biren,

                          I think you misunderstood what I said. I don't have the flip on my phone. I have it completely open. Anyways, I did figure out where to check if I have the latest firmware (& I do) but I can not figure out where & HOW TO change/remove those icons on my main screen! I feel like, I've checked every single button...
                          Can anyone please tell me how to change/remove those icons? Your help is much appreciated.

                            to ali,
                            i said when the phone is flip CLOSED not open. and yes there is a setting to hide the icons on the main screen. when u go to more to check the status, it is right there. thanks

                              hello and good day to you all the sonyericsson p990i user all around the world,
                              i would like to ask you all is the latest R9
                              softwear version is stable and giving this
                              p990i more excllent in its performance? i
                              mean its stable enough? application on the
                              phone may run more faster? how about if there
                              is a 4gb memory stick inside the p990i can it be run smoothly?cause i had this phone on the first version when it is out in the market so sell it off after i use it for 1 week cause of the softwear version then after a few months i bought this p990i again this time i had the R7 softwear version and it is very stable for me then after i use it for a few weeks i sold it off cause of the battery life so can some one out there with the R9 softwear version please advise me that whether it is stable enough

                                dave, does that happen on all of ur contacts or only few?? if few try to check mayber their number is DUPLICATED in ur phonebook and delete one if the phonenumber of ur contact has a duplicate.

                                    Hi Biren,

                                    Thanks for your help. I have my phone (flip open) & I can't & don't know where to see the "Status".
                                    Also another question I have, when you have the flip open, are the icons TEMPORARY (Applications, etc)? Is there a way I can hide those icons & only activate them when I unclock or use my jogdial (like P910i)? The icons kind'a bother me a bit...

                                      first did u upgraded the firmware to the latest version ? (u can upgraded yourself with Sony Ericsson Service Update program, download from sonyericsson.com ) and second, did u set the gprs setting ? (u can get the automatic setting (OTA) from sonyericsson.com)

                                        to ali,
                                        when the phone is flip closed, press the right key for more and scroll down to status and there scroll down to phone and see if it says R9EA001. that is the new firmware.
