Yea, I know the phone IS SLOW…. Just look at it this way. It's like the PC era, where we first have the 286, 386, 486, and then the Pentium. The wireless phone industry is now at a point of drastic changes. We are now witnessing the Mobile Phone evolution. This is just a glimpse of what the future holds and technological advancement in the Wireless industry. The designer, engineer at SE development foresee the future of handheld devices, they’re work very hard to integrate everything into one device.
Unfortunately, right now, fierce competition amongst companies, SE has to cut some corners to capture the market before their competitor. Believe me, I know… because I am currently working in one. I’m on the other end of the spectrum in the wireless industry, which manufactures solution for the Wireless Service Provider (High power signal amplifiers, base stations, antennas and more... ). And it is crazy I must say. Due to competition company need to reduce the cost of the product in order to be competitive.
Cost reduction in turn put a limit on design time, labor, component use and field trail. That is the reason why the P990i is slow when it processing a task. A slower processor were use, low cost component and field trail is limited. Back in the days, it took years to design a product, which works like a horse, with a long life span and does its job. Now most of consumer product must go into production only in a few months after design. Which reduce greatly the amount of time for field trail to perfect the product. Once a design has left the floor and production projects begin, there is no coming back for a second run.
Then there are DEMANDS. Consumer nowadays wanting more and better, “NOW!”. Company like SE has to fulfill that demand. It boils down to limited time for perfection of a product.
Therefore, we are now unconditionally a part of the field trail team for SE, For FREE. hehe! We provide information on what is wrong with the product. SE takes it and our money! hehe Then redesign a variation of the same product with improvements and market the product under a different model. ;-) Then the cycle continue…. lol! One day we will look back to this day and say proudly that we are part of their design team. LOL!!! Think positive!
In conclusion, I believe SE P990i is currently one of the advance smartphone out there, base on features, compact size and technology. Remember we need to keep the cycle going are SE will loose it. OK!!! :-)

Ravi and Haroon,
Just to let you guys know. If you are having trouble playing your video files. It might be too large and the resolutions are too high. Your phone might not play. The largest video file I have played on the phone “WHICH TOOK A VERY VERY LONG TIME TO LOAD” is about 140 MB mp4, resolution 320x240, 29.97 fps, 768 Kbps video, and 128kbps Audio. I yet tried any other format, so I have no knowledge to share. Sorry!
Ravi, try to convert your WMA format to mp4. There are many free video converter programs out there that you guys can use to convert your video files so it is more compatible with the phone.

Hey just purchased p990,cant get 4gig card to format, formatted on my laptop, but now when I put it in phone it says corrupted but still works in laptop???? any suggestions.

Hi, I m using P990 but not so happy with it. Its slow and hangs. I have R4 version. If i upgrade the version, will it function better. If so can someone give me the link and say how to update. Thanks

i ahd used P910,910i, and now i brought a month ago 990i, so that i will have the family of P 9...series, but after i use it for one month i hate the immidiate blind nature of the phone which has no reset keys to recover it from blind unless to remove battery and refix it, which is not possible if you are in meeting or in public transport!!! i am lossing the faith on sony,comaprring to the one i ahve (motorola A1200 )it is weak and other problem is i ahve realy have no idia how to transfer pictures from camara album to memory stick

thanks for the link/instruction for the upgrade. i tried it but unfortunately i seem to still have the R7 firmware? i chose the English US setting for the upgrade. hope u can help.tnx

are the four icons on the screen(FLIP CLOSED) removable??? i want that the screen of my p990 is plain an has no icons on it.. I REPEAT (FLIP CLOSED)

I have Owned the p990i for about 2 weeks and i LOVE IT. If u use the phone properley u will find out it does not crash. When u finish using a program u CLOSE IT. Try using the task manager for multi tasking. That should solve the problem. Give the phone a chance. It is a awsome phone and one of the best phones i have owned. i used to be a Nokia coustumer but after buying the P990i i stoped and transfered to Sony Ericsson right away. I read many bad reviews about the P990i but i still bought it. Most of the peoples reviews i have read dont even know what the Task manager is. Obiliviously its gonna freeze if ur using 5 programs at a time. Lets not forget its a Phone. I recommened it to every one. Trust Me.

Hi, its nice that I have P990i phone but I think, it has some thing less, like it doesn't have the EDGE. Another thing is, its display is unsecured as some hp has a display cover to save the display. More another problem is its flash of photo is smaller then W810 but its price is so high then the W-Series phones which always making me pain that what the more and nice thing I get by bying this phone...I guess most of the user of this phone has the same mental uncomfortings...I think, we should get these things as we can think that our phone P990i is alright.

ive had the P990i for about 2 months now but im not one bit happy with it this is my 18th phone and its been one of the worst ones
it keeps restarting and the WiFi is really weak
and sometimes it just hangs so i have to take the battery out

Vada,
You can try to reboot the Phone. See if it helps. If your phone freezes, HOLD the ON/OFF button on top of the phone for about 10 seconds to turn it off. Remember the phone is "Suppose" to multi-task flawlessly but not everything is perfect. ;-) Try not to run too many applications at the same times. Remember to end all applications using the Task Manager. It will reduce the possibility of system crashes. Good Luck!
