Well, Bottom line: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET SOMETHING ELSE! I am not impressed in the least. I had a SE W900 and it was by far the best phone I have ever had! But, I wanted email and WIFI service. I bought a Nokia H80 and loved it. Very fast down load time via the Wifi services ( in a pub, mall etc), but I wanted a key board as I don't like the text entering via the phone number pad ( all well and fine for the under 50 crowd, but not me).
So, I bought the SE P990i. The thing is not the least but used friendly. Most phones you can understand very soon by just folling around with the controls, not so with the SE 990. The jog dial is usless most of the time, jobs from one item to the next and I can't tell you how many times I have jogged to some function I did not want. When the keyboard is open for to edit a contact, to enter the phone number you need to hit alt then the number for each digit! If you happen to close the flip keyboard then you are taken out of edit and have to star all over again!
The wifi web browsing display is small and unreadable. Locating anything on the webpage displayed is not easy. The Nokia uses a nice function that allows you to see the entire page, like you are used to, then zoom in on what you want to see. Sure, the 990 has a zoom function of sorts, but is not easy to locate and use.
The unit as an MP3 player is not easy to use as well. Try and locate the vol control. I read in the manual that this is controlled by the jog dial... nope that does not seem to work on mine. I need to enter another funton and lower or raise the vol via the stylis in another program function - not mp3 player! And why on earth did they not make the unit to where it can take a decent head phone like the W900? Here I am stuck once more with ear buds.
No thanks, I am putting it on ebay and going back to the H80 Nokia. Small price to pay with the slide out number entry and who knows, I may get used to the data entry vai a number pad. I say save your money.

guys some 1 told me tht p990 back camera is vga and the front one is 2 MP some body plz tell me is this true ?

actualy my phone is sony ericsson! why? its the best. do anybody know if the wlan work or the wifi i want to know if the phone can edit office documents

im am so frustrated! sony ericsson and 02 are f*ckin unbelievable! i rang them to confirm my order today for next week as they promised me..guess what? The stock date has been changed AGAIN to the end of the month! This is plan ridiculous I mean Ive waited 9 months with lie after lie for an upgrade date and Im paying money for a handset that hasnt even flippin arrived! Its an absolute disgrace..this phone better be worth the wait

I was considering purchasing the W810i but when I looked at the P990 (P series is my preference) I started doubting my desire. Think I'll go for the P990 as soon as its available in T&T (although there's no Edge, FM Radio & MP3 Walkman & there's less memory). I think I'm being dumb here. I just really prefer the handwriting feature and the wider LCD screen in the P series. Hmmm...

HI ppl. now finaly im a proud owner a p990i. i purchased it through ebay. and paid AU $1,150 for it. trust me no words to describe abt the mobile it rocks. its awsome. n im happy to own one. ppl its worth waitin such a long after sellin my p910i. this phone rocks n no match to it until se brings in a new smartphone. but if se could have loaded full version apps it would be awsome. don have to carry ur digi cam anymore. 2mp rocks. but worth if u have wifi hotspot in ur house aswell.

I just got my p990i a day back. Since the Golf Pro game was not working, I decided to reset the phone. On doing a reset the game diappeared !! ... along with a couple of other pre-installed applications. Did any one face such a problem ?? Thanks for replying

do not update the phone with 3rd party software still installed on the phone the person who had problems with the phone uninstalled the 3rd party software. mastered reseted the phone then again updated the firmware and its working fine(even if 3 or 4 applications are on and an sms pops in no probs just did it) pls do not install agile or any messg or any not authorized software pls.se will be out with a compatible software.i hear the upcoming firmware will further make the software more unstable if there is a 3rd party software installed some security thing read it in allaboutSymbian.

Sony Ericsson P990 a big Let down, After waiting for so many months there is a major software problem. If Camera is ON by mistake and another application is ON and if we receive a SMS at that time the phones get Hanged.Instead of moving foward they have moved 2 steps back. Very crazy software.

Now i realized,.. i have used an SE P990i from my friend yeaterday after i posted my opinion, and yes it is good and better! SE doesn't fail for giving us a good fone wind all features inside, no need for a higher mp cam, edge, and etc. coz in basic sense, this phone is everything! and it even surpasses all phone's functionality mostly in Messaging where you can find all inputs that is missing to all phones...
and yeah! UIQ is good OS, it can be fixed in the near future and UIQ in SE even did not give us disappointment of Bugs after FW is improved since P800,..
AND...
I also realized the potential of p-series as a superior smartphone,.. Everything about imaging, Multimedia, Connectivity, Feature-richness of the Platform, and better battery life than most of smartphones is found in P990.. though camera/music/video/internet/connectivity not comparable to Nokia's one, but still they are Very,Very Stable that you wont change it for the rest of your life...
It's a failure for me to judge P990's performance, P990 is simply all in one PDA-Phone... thnx for correcting!
